When Connected Both Ethernet And WiFi / Which Does It Choose?
Mar 27, 2012
How do you know which one is it gonna choose when you're connected with both wired and wireless? Is there some type of "test" it does to take the better connection? Or does it like pick randomly? Alternate?
I have an annoying problem with my pc running Windows 7 Ultimate.Till I connected my pc(which is a desktop without wi fi adapter) to internet using a ethernet cable and a wi fi router I had no problems. After that, randomly, but especially when browsing the internet, the computer freezes and I must restart it.I have to mention the fact that if I connect my pc to internet using directly the cable from my ISP ( a pppoe dial-up connection) everything works fine.
Currently my internet is not working but was fine for the pass few weeks. The problem im having is that the wifi works for Iphone but not my laptop. Im able to connect to my housemate wifi , just now the free wifi that was provided by the owner. Is there any reason why my laptop wifi isnt working for this connection but works for other wifi connection ?
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop. It always works great except for one problem I have had from the beginning. When I am at some place like Starbucks or the Library and want to use the internet, my computer will show me the list of "Wireless Network Connections" available and I can click on the library for example and it will connect just fine. It will show the word "Connected" under the "Library" connection. But it will also say "No Internet Access". This happens anytime I go to a free wifi hotspot. I have learned that there is an additional login required. So for the library I would have to pull up my browser, go to their website and find their login. The problem with this is that sometimes you don't know the URL to their website so you can't login. there is some setting on my computer I can change to make the login screen come up automatically or even bypass this option. When I use these wifi hotspots with my phone or Google Nexus I never have this problem.
I connect to my home wifi and it says connected, but there is no internet connection.I noticed that network adapter shows "wireless network connection 2" with that "2" at the end of name. I guess there is a problem. If I rename it to just "wireless network connection" it says it already exists. But cannot see it, and use it! Can anyone tell me how to reset it or somehow switch to "wireless network connection" without "2"?
Also when I type ipconfig/all I get this:
------------------ C:Usersuser>ipconfig/all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : user-PC
My wifi at work will recognize the wireless network and says it's connected. Yet there is no internet. So I use the Ethernet cable and internet works. My wifi connects immediately on my home wifi router with no issues. I had wireless working flawlessly last week, but all this week it won't connect.
I have an acer laptop aspire 5738z. the problem is i'm not able to access a web page but my computer is connected to my router and it says internet access all the application who need internet are not working (internet explorer, real player, google chrome, my anti-virus,etc).
i've a unsecured neighbor's network & my MSI laptop detects the network with full signal & it shows connected with a yellow exclamatory mark in a triangle, but i'm unable to access the internet. the ip address 192.168.1.1 is pinging properly.
there is a similar problem wifi is connected but there is no internet access.... there is a yellow triangle with is warning mark on it my is a new laptop and model is dell inspiron 15r 7520?
I have my laptop connected to my router via Wifi, and my machine downstairs only has an ethernet port. If i connect my laptop downstairs can i share the wifi connection to my pc via a ethernet cable?
Ive foudn some posts and question about this before but none have worked. My laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and my machine has Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
PS: I dont wana buy anything new as that machine wont be there forever, i just want a quick free temporary way of doing this.
When both the wireless NIC and the physical Ethernet NIC are both connected to a network that has an active Internet connection, which one will the host use for network data?
Will it randomly use both to get data, or will it choose the faster connection?
My pc was slowing down so I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows 7. All went well except one thing internet on wifi doesn't work. The rest of the toys in the house still connect through the router but the laptop does not. If the lan cable is plugged in the internet works. I used this to find the latest drivers for my laptops wifi card. Through the wifi I can enter the router settings but not externally to the internet.
I've had a wifi network set up at my house for several months now, and no problems. If I couldn't connect. I always just unplugged the router for 10 seconds and was able to connect. Suddenly today, I can't connect to the internet, but my wifi network appears to be fine. It says I have excellent signal strength and that I'm connected but I can't connect to the internet. When I go to the program that came with the router and hit "repair".
It says that I am connected to the network, but that my internet connection is broken...??? I tried using another device to see if I could connect with internet, my ipod touch and it also said that I was connected to the wifi network...yet it could not connect with the internet. It never had a popup that said anything, it acted like it was trying to connect but just never did.
Wifi connected but after like 5 - 15 mins, it shows no internet access (yellow !) at random. Sometimes it can happen every 1 min and freuqency great increases when im streaming a video/uploading/downloading or playing an online game.
I tried all the solutions such /run winsock reset & preferred DNS 218. 67. 222. 222.
Seems to be popping up alot, so maybe some one has an idea. I recently woke up to find that my Acer Aspire 5250 notebook with an Atheros network card, which had the previous evening had wifi connection, no longer could get online. Further investigation showed that the notebook was/is connecting to the home network, although not recognizing it as such (just says unidentified network), can correctly communicate the WEP key, but is unable to get any internet connection. Specific error is that the machine has limited connectivity. Now, where this gets a little stranger is that it is the same with the ethernet connection - a physical connection to the router results in the same thing - a connection to the netowrk, but no internet connection.I first called Acer, who were useless, and wanted the machine mailed away for inspection at my cost - not bloody likely. They then said it must be the ISP and something to do with the netowrk configuration. I first tried a rollback to before the problem occurred - nothing. Called the ISP who said nope, not them, particualrly as it had been working, and I have another Aspire, an Asus O!Play Air and an Ipod touch on the wifi connection, as well as a wired connection for my desktop. They had me reset the router regardless, to no avail. I then uninstalled the devices (LAN and wifi), and reinstalled them - no device errors in the manager, but also no change in the problem.
I have been accessing wifi on it for almost the entire time... Was workn on the nternet with my laptop till day before yesterday mornng.....
When i switched it on in the evenng, it suddenly started showing that the internet is connected, but there is no nternet access!!! There was a yellow icon (triangle) at the internet connection icon...!!
I am able to access the same internet with my ipad n iphone, but says 'no internet access' or 'limited access' while trying the same from my laptop...!!
This happens after I tried to install a bluetooth software. It failed to work as described so I uninstalled it. Now my network notification icon is always a red cross. But when I hover my mouse over it, it says I have internet access. And of course I do.
I've not been connected since I formatted windows 7, I have installed drivers as specified by the dell company from the internet, but my internet is not connected with the adsl. If there is any driver for this connection so that I could use that to enable the connection.
I've got two computers in my room: a Toshiba laptop and a desktop computer (both running Windows 7) I built a few months ago. The laptop gets great wifi reception, 4/5 bars, while the desktop struggles to get one bar. I want to connect the laptop to the PC via Ethernet and use the laptop's Internet connection. I'm having troubles doing this.
Here's what I've done thus far:Disabled the desktops wifi. Enabled "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" on the laptop's Ethernet card. Plugged in the cable.
This is where I hit the brick wall. On both computers, it comes up as "unidentified network". I try creating a homegroup on the desktop, but I encounter an error "Windows could not set the network settings" and "You can try to change this setting later in the Network and Sharing Center." I look in the Network and Sharing Center, and it says "Homegroup: Joined" as if no error occurred at all. So I try to join the homegroup on the laptop. It says "Larry from LARRY-PC has created a homegroup" so it recognizes it, but then it says "Windows could not setup a homegroup on this computer" when I try to put in the password.
I start the HomeGroup Troubleshooter, and it troubleshoots network problems. After that, it says "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration: Fixed" So then I try joining it again, and get the same issue. I go through the HomeGroup Troubleshooter again, and I click "the problem is not fixed" and get a list of problems I don't have.
My laptop is connected to Wi-Fi but the internet doesn't seem to work. It shows "No Internet Access". the same network is working fine on other systems.
I know there is a setting to choose or not to choose specific countries, but I don't know how.(Yes, Europe is not as free as you think and you need to change your identity to view what third world countries can view!)
I have my netbook connected to router. But sometimes i need to connect it by ethernet port to copy some big files quickly. In this case i had to turn my wi-fi connection off by hand. Can i tune my windows 7 so this swithing from wi-fi to ethernet port goes automatically. And switch back to wi-fi after disconnect cable?
I tried to allow my windows 7 laptop to print over the network, and after 3 hours gave up as nothing seemed to work. I must have done something because now I cannot connect to WiFi at all or Ethernet. It says on the system tray Not connected and below that connections available, and under wireless network connection it says it is connected to my wireless connection but I cannot connect.
We have a number of different laptops running Windows 7 and all have the same issue. The very first time a laptop is connected to the company network via Ethernet or WiFi (lets assume we have connected by WiFi) you receive the prompt to choose a network location. After selecting "work" the laptop can connect to the domain and everything works as expected.
Now if the WiFi on the laptop is switched off and the user try's to use the Ethernet connection the Ethernet adapter reports a "Unidentified Network". The only way to get the Ethernet adapter to discover the domain is to disable the WiFi adapter completely which our users cannot do as they do not have Admin permissions on our systems.
The university I attend doesn't allow modems and routers, but me and my roommates desperately need wifi for our devices, otherwise they are being wasted sitting around. today I set up an ad hoc connection on my roommates laptop, but he brings his laptop places and when he's out, we have no wifi. I have my desktop computer, and I can leave it on all the time and I never leave with it, so I'd love to set up wifi on it, since it will be so much more convenient.I brought my router from home, and ive gotten it to send out my computer's internet connection, but it brings me to the school's registration page, which I can not use, since routers are not allowed. Is there a way to use my desktop's ethernet connection and send out that internet connection through my router (it also needs to bypass the school network, somehow fooling it that my router is my computer (im guessing))?
My Dell Inspiron 1764 just started crashing every time I put it into standby. Screen will go blank, as expected. But, the HD will continue to spin for about 5 min, then the machine shuts down. It does this most times if I hibernate as well. Here's the catch. If I reboot and don't connect to a wifi network, it will standby and hibernate just fine. Once it's been connected, even if I disconnect after, it will crash in standby. Full disk check Uninstalled and reinstalled all network drivers Replaced the offending files from a good working win 7 machine (see below) Full virus scan in safe mode
