Webpages Do Not Load With Or Without Compatibility Mode In IE9?
Dec 30, 2011
Most web sites that I try to visit cause an error to display at the bottom of the screen - A problem displaying xxxx.com caused internet explorer to refresh the web page using compatibilty view. The problem is that even though it's using compatibility mode, it usually only displays the web site header info, there's no detail. This happens on most web sites. I have another pc with Windows 7 and IE9 and have no problems. I compared the settings and everything looks OK.

I have a new desktop running win 7 64bit pro. After doing a fresh install the only thing I did was remove the trial version of Norton AV. Now many pages will not load in either IE9 or chrome. Some pages load but when you try to click on links. Our other laptops on my network can browse the internet without any problems. Pages that load on them will not load on this new desktop.
The desktop is connect to the network via ethernet cable.
I've been able to download and receive windows updates. I was able to download google chrome. I can get to Google but I when I click on the links the pages will not load, it just sets there and never gives me any error.

Its been like this for a while now. That is every time i leave my computer on for over a day it loses its ability to load webpages. A simple ping to [URL] gives a timeout while any other computer on the network can still access any other website (including google.com). I suspected a failure of my computers DNS to convert DN's into IPs however a flushing and reactivating of the computers DNS cache still does not solve the issue. If i still have MSN or uTorrent running they seem to be able to connect to peers over the internet which is strangely odd, however signing in and refreshing trackers no longer work. I have tried accessing websites with the latest version of IE and FF while this problem persists.
All network settings are on automatic and i use Windows 7 SP1. I have a phone that alerts me to new mail and i have suscribed to this thread.

Windows 7, 64 Dell XPS 8000 system. All browsers (Firefox, IE7, Opera) exhibit same behavior, which is when starting from the home page and browse to another page or tab, the page will stay open for a few seconds and then close and the browser displays the home page. Also, when trying to open Outlook 2007 from Outlook Today, I cannot open the inbox. The only way to do so is "open in new window". This is also true when trying to open folders.

Windows Live Messenger needs to run in compatibility mode in order to minimize to the system tray instead of the taskbar. This seems to work except sometimes on startup it does not run in compatibility mode. I have to exit and then restart WLM and then it's ok.

Does XP mode, available in Windows 7 and Ultimate, help with older hardware compatibility? In other words, if I have a scanner that has no 64-bit drivers available, can I use XP mode to install XP drivers and use this older hardware?

I have been trying to get Itunes or any IPOD software to work and recognize my IPOD. I even tried Windows XP SP2/SP3 compatibility and even though it says connected on my IPOD it will NOT show up in ITUNES.
I upgraded to the lastest RC 7100 and it kept the compatibility settings. When I run the program it pops up telling me to REMOVE the compatibility mode. When I RIGHT CLICK and goto properties/compatibility EVERYTHING is unchecked. I have tried running with admin priveledges, unchecking everything.. for some reason it won't remove the compatibility.
If i uninstall and RE-install it RE-applies the compatibility mode.
Not sure how to remove it...

One of the things you may discover is that not all of your older programs/games/drivers will work under 7, and their 7 compliant versions may not be availabe. In this case, you can try install and run them in Vista (or XP) compatible mode. To run a file in compatibility mode:
1. Right click on the executable file and click the "Properties" option
2. Select the "Compatibility tab"
3. From the drop-down menu, choose the operating system to run your file compatible with
4. Click OK
5. Run it "Compatibility" tab explained by Microsoft
If compatibility mode does not help, you can try force windows to use the standard device drivers:
1. In Device Manager, right-click your device (e.g. video adapter), and then click "Uninstall" to remove the device.
2. Restart your computer. After you log on, you receive a "New Hardware Found" dialog box with the device listed as the description and the "Found New Hardware Wizard" starts
3. Click "Next" to start the wizard
4. Click "search for suitable driver", and then click "Next"
5. Click to clear all of the search option check boxes, and then click "Next"
This way windows can install a standard driver for hardware like VGA, fax modem, printer, etc.How to force Windows to use a standard VGA compatible driver

I am using Outlook 2007 on Windows 7 RC1 (7100) with Franklin Covey PlanPLus for Outlook v.6 add-on. This add-ob really gets slow at times. I asked tehir support, they said windows 7 is not supported (ah, that was easy to forsee).
Before I try the thing on XP - I want to try running Outlook in XP Compatibility Mode. When I try this Outlook starts, but cannot find my profile (or any profiles whatsoever).
Ok, windows 7 keeps Outlook data differently from Win XP. But how can I create a profile for XP compatibility mode? The craziest thing is run a control panel which creates profiels in XP Compatibility mode, or reinstall outlook (or start it with some command-line switch to pretend that it runs the very first time and force it to craete a profile while running in XP Compatibility mode?)
Anybody? Any ideas?

I have an NEC Superscript 870 that does not have Windows 7 drivers. Is it at all possible to run a printer in WXP compatibility mode as we can run programs in WXP compatibility mode??? Sure would not only save a few (very dear) dollars, but also prevent idiotic waste of a perfectly good asset (where is all of their "think green" money where their mouths are???). I am intentionally not upgrading one computer to Windows 7 just so I can copy docs over to the WXP computer and bring them up on it so I can print them.

I have an application that runs on a network drive so users can access it from different locations. We have recently added a Windows 7 system, and know when the application is installed locally, it needs to run in XP Compatibility mode. However, I am looking for a way to set this compatibility mode on the network drive install for my Windows 7 user. So, is there a way to change the compatibility mode of an application running off a network drive? Or does the application have to be on the local harddrive?

One of our computers went down at work and we had to replace it with a Windows 7 computer. The other ones on the network still have 2000 and XP. Now we're having issues with the network... and they're hard to pinpoint because sometimes they come and go.The plan is replace all the computers in the office with x64 Windows 7 machines. Some of the Designers still use 16 and 32-bit programs that won't even install on the new x64 PC (Which has the Home Premium Version)If we get Win 7 x74 Professional on all the computers on the network will they have trouble running these old apps through XP compatibility mode?

I'm installing Seven on a WinXP machine and completed the install, but forgot to change the SATA setting in the bios from "compatibility mode" to AHCI. Now when I change it, windows gives me bluescreen on boot.I'm dumbfounded that Windows Seven startup repair can't fix a problem this simple, but it completely failed, wasn't even able to find a problem.I was thinking it might be easier to just reformat and begin the install over again, or startup in safemode and install the intel SATA drivers... assuming it will let me boot into safemode with AHCI enabled.ps. On the other computer (different thread), I'm going to wait till I have several hours of uninterrupted time, in case I need to begin over installing all the windows versions one at a time. I'll reply with any success/failure on that thread later in the week.

Just got a new Windows 7 machine. Installed Word 2002 and Excel from my Office XP disks with no problem whatsoever. Once in a while text in my document will be highlighted and start flashing, and closing the document or stopping the program in task manager is the only thing that stops it. It might have to do with erroneous commands coming from my Dragon Naturally Speaking program, but I'm not sure.
Question: Is it likely that if I ran Word 2002 in Windows XP compatibility mode it might run a little better? I have Home Premium Windows 7 so I don't have the Windows XP MODE, but it's my understanding that I can run things in a compatibility mode, or are those the same things? I'm OK with it how it is but wouldn't mind eliminating this glitch.

When I start my laptop, everything is ok, vaio logo and the windows loading logo. But that's everything. Loading is like never ending. I tried to get to bios menu and start safe mode. Files start loading and at file classpnp.sys it stops loading. So I click on repair my computer and the Startup repair showed me two reports: first was A patch is preventing system to start, error code 0xa and second one that system repair cannot repair this computer automatically. I do not own cd with os, because I have oem version. Also I don't have any Repair point from using pc in the past.

A few days ago something strange happened to my computer. I suspect it may have been a virus but I really don't know.I was on a seemingly harmless website for learning Spanish and after clicking a button my computer froze and wouldn't even load Task Manager, so I shut it down forcefully with the button after several minutes. After restarting it seemed fine, but the next day I noticed everything was loading slowly, from internet pages to desktop programs and iTunes songs were skipping. I tried running a virus scanner but the computer froze again and had to be forcefully shut down once again. However, it didn't start back up like normal. When I turn on my laptop, it says 'Windows has failed to start normally' and something I can't remember about recently installed hardware issues but that's not the problem. After pressing F8 to try Safe Mode, it has a page loading drivers and whatnot, but then it restarts and gives me the same 'failed to start' page. 'Last Known Good Configuration' just gives me a black page with a cursor. 'Launch Windows Repair' or something (which is right after initially booting) does nothing at all.

charger wire has loose wiring showing and if the black wire touches the red wire the computer completely shuts off, and when you turn it back on you have to go through the whole re-start process and lose unsaved documents. Plus when you run it in the normal mode it takes forever to load anything, and a little window keeps popping up saying "microsoft windows is not responding." but when I run it in safe mode, it works fine. what's wrong here?My theory is that the charget has been short cerciting (i know i spelled it wrong, forgive me) so much that it's been causing damage to the motherboard,

I have a Sony Vaio which runs on windows 7 (don't know if it's 32 or 64?). I don't have any back up discs.
Computer started doing windows updates, when I turned the laptop on the next day it won't boot up normally or in safe mode. If I click on repair computer it scans and goes through the process but in the end it just takes me back to the same screen. I've tried to restore and I have several points come up in the list but it says beside them enable system protection for this (C Drive).
The only option I have is to put it back to factory settings which I would really like to avoid as I don't want to loose all my files. I have some of them on USB but not all.

I have this laptop which belongs to my girlfriend, but it has a slight problem since a few days. It won't boot properly. If I just 'let it go' it gives me the screen about that i've added new hardware or something, and that i should start startup-recovery. From there, if I choose to boot normally, it crashes after the 'Starting windows' screen with the flag. It looks like it gives a black screen with some letters, and then BSOD's REALLY fast. Now the same thing happens if I boot into any safe mode.
So I started thinking, this might be some bootfile problem. And so I went for the startup-recovery mode. Too bad this only shows a black screen with a cursor in the middle, which i can move. Okay, so I tried booting from the cd. Same thing. Even with a recovery cd made with another computer running Windows 7 x64.

Ok, so yesterday I tried to use the Win7 backup tool. I had a 200 gb hdd as a second drive that I usually keep copies of all my folders on. The backup utility said there was not enough space on that drive for a backup, so I formatted the drive. At this point I decided to upgrade my bios using the ASUS tool that came with the motherboard. (Bios IS working.)I went to restart after upgrading BIOS, and when it tries to load windows, the soon as it reaches the Windows screen it crashes, you see a quick "Blue screen of death" (I can't read it) and it goes to the windows boot menu. BUT it only gives you 2 options: Load Normally or Attempt to Repair. When I go into the attempt to repair, it says it cannot repair, and gives me this eror:[CODE]I had downloaded software from download.com and accidentally installed and uninstalled a toolbar from there. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
