Creating Shortcuts To Change Default Playback Device?
Jan 21, 2011With my current setup I have 2 playback devices that I constantly use on my computer. Currently to switch between devices I have to go to control panel, sound, and then change the playback device. I am hoping to find a way to make 2 shortcuts on my desktop to change my playback devices. One shortcut for each of my devices, where I can open the shortcut and the default device will be changed. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate.

Jun 15, 2012On my last computer I had found a way of putting website shortcuts right onto my desktop. It was really convenient because I could keep all my casual "play" bookmarks in the browser itself, and important sites for things like banking and online bills were accessed from a special corner of my desktop. I've since built a new computer and I don't remember how I did it before. My primary browser is Chrome and I can't find a way to save bookmarks to the desktop. What I've been forced to do is right click on the desktop, go in "New" and then select "Shortcut", and then just put the website's URL. It works but the icon pictures are all wrong. On my last comp each website had a proper icon (Bank of Montreal had the BMO logo, Videotron had the Videotron logo, etc).

Jun 30, 2012So I have an SSD for windows files *C:* and an HDD for my programs and things. I just changed the default install location for programs by getting to regedit->currentversion->programfilesdir and programfilesdir(x86), but now when I try to pin anything to the taskbar it defaults the pathing to the SSD. And the program's not there, so it doesn't work. Am I going to have to manually relabel everything or is there a way to change this?

Apr 30, 2011I click on Start go to Computer, Right Click then left click on Device Manager. Then nothing happens, huh? I try it again the look at my system and the CPU light blinks a few but not long and still nothing. I put the icon on the desktop and do the same thing, nothing. I type in Device Manager then it bring it up. It works that way but the shortcut is broken that is in the system.

Feb 16, 2012Using W7 home premium SP1. Everything is up to date, not running any virtual desktop, just a few widget type apps on my second display.
Sometimes when I do a restart or cold boot, some of my shortcuts have changed locations on the screen and I have to move them back to where I want them. I've never experienced this before until recently and I am looking for assistance on what is causing this.

Batch Script To Change How Applications Open From Shortcuts
Oct 28, 2011I have Googled this without success. Does anyone know of a script (or is able to write one?) which will batch convert a folder (+ subfolders) full of shortcuts so that they all open the application they link to (in the case, Microsoft Flight Simulator) in a maximized, not 'normal' window?
I have over a thousand of these shortcuts and opening each one's properties window and changing 'normal' to 'maximized' is not really an option!
Not really a 'Windows 7' question specifically of course, but maybe someone here will know anyway?

Feb 3, 2012In Windows 7, all the good icons are in %SystemRoot%system32imageres.dll, but we're still taken to the old SHELL32.dll when it comes time to change an icon.
Is there a registry key or something that we can change to remedy this?

Dec 28, 2009I wonder how I change the default program for dvd's. Now, when I double-click the dvd in "Computer", Windows Media Player is started. I have powerdvd installed. In file associations it shows that .vob is linked to powerdvd. Is there a way so that when I doubleklick the dvd I want to play powerdvd is started.
I don't want to delete windows media player (I haven't found out yet how you do it yet).

I would prefer her to install the games to "c:\program files\games" rather than "c:\program files" as that folder ends up getting so cluttered that I can't tell what's in there.
