User Accounts Not Recreated On Clean Install
May 16, 2011
I'm having in recreating my 4 user accounts on a clean install of Windows 7?I did a clean install (custom installation) to upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium x32 to Windows 7 Home Premium x32. I used Windows Easy Transfer to save files and settings for the 4 user accounts (1 x administrator and 3 x standard) to an external hard disk and, following a successful clean install, I used it again to transfer them back to the PC. The Windows Easy Transfer Report says that the 4 users have transferred successfully and, sure enough, at "c:users" there are four folders with the names of the 4 users concerned plus a 5th called "Public". However, when I boot up the only account that appears on the login screen (if that's what it's called) is my (administrator) account. The other 3 standard accounts don't appear.
I went into Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts > Manage Accounts and created a new user account for the 1st of the 3 standard accounts (let's call it "Jane") thinking it would map the folder "c:usersJane" to this user - but it didn't! Instead it created a new folder "c:usersJane.pcname". Should I continue with creating new user accounts for the other standard users in the way I did for "Jane" and then manually move the files across (e.g. from "c:usersJane" to "c:usersJane.pcname") or will this make a mess of things? Is there another way? I didn't see anything in either the Windows 7 install wizard or the Windows Easy Transfer wizard that prompted me to create user accounts other than the one main administrator account.

After a HDD failure, carried out a clean install Now however I have ended up with some 'odd' account naming.I have the following view: My account (administrator) instead of being 'Rick' is now 'Rick.Rick-Home-PC'.I know that home-pc was name I gave to computer during W7 install. The account 'Rick' is an empty folder. Can I get my account back to being just a single name? Want to get this correct before I move USER profiles to separate HDD

I am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.
Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.
I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured.

I'm going to make a clean install of windows 7 and therefor have some question
1)As I want to make a dual boot install with a Linux distribution I thinking about the Partitioning. I want to make following Partitions: [code] Windows 7 also always creates this small 100MB system restore partition. So what would be the best way to prepare these Partions. I would use GParted Live CD to create the Partition in advance, that everything is the way I like it. But I'm not sure if this works without problems for the 100 MB system restore partition (lasts time I got 2 100 MB partitions)
2) I want to move the Users data to a separate partition and found this guides: User Profiles - Create and Move During Windows 7 Installation [2]=User%20Accounts User Folders - Change Default Location(Don't know which one I chose to do so till now) But I see in Windows 7 there are much more useless directories in the users home directory:I've already learned the new Library system, but I still want to use the Users directory. But there is a great mess. Is there a useful/possible way to prevent the directory to mess up with all the sub directories, often created by some apps, don't really using the directory. Or are you just ignore the users home directory? Usually I got about 5 to 8 sub-directories in each Directory for a tidy system to find everything and have a good ordered system.

I have an admin account, but it's the only account for my computer. I used to have plenty of old accounts, some of which were also admin accounts. When I decided to delete them, I chose to keep the files just in case. Now I realize I don't need them but it won't let me delete them.

When I boot my machine (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) I get to the user accounts log in screen where it attempts to auto login and fails. I click the little "ok" button and see two user accounts, myself (BlackViper) and "Other" with no picture, and a blank for the password.I have no password on my account, but when I click on the icon associated with my account, it asks for one. I can leave it blank and log in just fine.I then "log off" and see three user accounts at the log in screen (Administrator), (BlackViper), and (Anawvyah). At this point I can access any of the three, and they all work just fine and the correctly associated pictures are there...

I'm tired of my actions being blocked so I just want to leave the administrator account and delete the rest of them since I'm the only one on my pc. I can have only the admin account with these other accounts deleted without it causing any computer problems correct? I believe this is the case but I just want to make dang sure first.

A month or so ago I noticed I could not listen to Cartalk (A PBS radio show) online when I always could before. Tried to troubleshoot. Reset IE8 and still no joy. It works just fine with Google Chrome so I know it is related to IE8.
Just created a new account (standard vs. my admin) and of course I can listen just fine on that account. Again tried to troubleshoot. Looked at add-ons. Made them identical, still no joy. Once again completely reset IE8 and still nothing.
So why would the website work just fine with the standard account and not my admin account? This is driving me crazy. I know I can use the standard account or chrombut I really want to know why this is happening.

I'm having problems with creating new user accounts, admin or otherwise. Login works fine, but icons are all generic and windows explorer turns up the "page failed to load" error. In contrast, my regular admin acct works perfectly. I noticed this after a hard shutdown but am unsure there is a connection. I performed a system restore from an earlier restore point from before the unsafe shutdown but no luck.

I want to merge my account into the main administrator account. The main Admin account is basically untouched and can be overwritten in the case of any conflicts. My current account is also an Administrator account. I'm trying to move it to the main one to be able to bypass the login screen. I can not delete the other Admin account because it is the main one and does not have the "delete account" option (however the Admin account I use and have all my files on does have the "delete account" option)

Recently I deleted an account that seemed to be automatic with Windows 7. It was not one that myself or my husband set up, but on that seemed to be administrator-type. I don't recall if it required a password. Anyway, I had no idea what it was for so I deleted it. Since then, I have noticed that windows is not working as well and I have a lot of issues with different webpages (even popular ones like Google & Facebook).Any idea what it was and how to get it back

How do I setup remote login that would allow 3 or 4 people to login to the same computer. Each person would have their own Windows User Account name, with different privileges.I don't know what software could do this. Could I please have some recommendations? The computer being connected to would be Windows 7, and there is no special network equipment besides a consumer router. This is a very small business and keeping costs under control is important

I have a laptop from my employer that I want to return as my contract is ending. However I am keen to ensure that I delete all my personal info as I also have work for another contract on it which is quite commercially sensitive (unfortunately I had a period when income would not allow me to have a second machine to keep everything separate). Naturally I have transferred everything I want to another machine and so that is safe.I have deleted everything I want to from the (dell) laptop, and used CC cleaner to wipe the free space, but I note that there is a file still left in one folder with a name that refers to the other company. If the first company sees that name they may think I have leaked info to a competitor and not want to offer me another contract later this year. I have tried all I can to delete the file but I get an error message saying it can't be located (0 bytes) which I assume is because I have already deleted it. I have tried logging off / on 10 times and tried to find the file but of course it is not actually there. I have two questions, how can I delete this ghost file, and / or how can I delete my User Account so that when I return the machine, nothing can be recovered? Of course because it's a company machine, although I have admin rights as I need to be able to install programmes etc; I may not have Full rights. I have tried to add another user so I can log on as that user to remove my existing account, but I get an error message about Trust accounts.

Okay so this is my problem; About two weeks ago my mother got to keep a laptop from work because she was moving schools and it was "outdated".It was on a school domain so it had her login from the schools. At the login page all i had to do was type "name.name" and the password and that was fine. She did not use the laptop anymore so she gave it to me.Even though she was a administrator i was getting sick of logining in as her all the time so i tried to create a new account. I want in to controle pannel and tried to make one but it came up with domain and user name. i tried to create a account but it was saying the rustrelationship with this domain and Lt-D-8JK12S. (the laptop) were denied.I went through another way to create a account through some workgroup thing , it worked. When i had to log on i would have to type Lt-D-8Qjk12Susername and password It only happened about two days ago that it started to have some problems.I could only log on to my account even though it had many different users in the laptops hard drive. it would say that i got my password wrong when i tried to type.the main problem is that i cant do anything because i am not an administrator and i kept being denied when trying making system changes and copy files on to a memory stick.

I was cleaning out my computer and deleting the inactive accounts, setting up the guest account, enabling parental controls, etc. When I was finished, I had two administrator accounts (mine and my mom's) and we were going to set up a guest account with parental controls. As I went to do this, I was prompted to set up a password for her account. I clicked "Add new password," but when I did this it password protected the account without me even adding a password? So I signed out of my account to go to my mom's side, but I couldn't access it because there was a password!! But really that password didn't exist, so I went back to my account to remove the "password." After signing out of my account once again, I was able to go into her account which had then turned into a temporary account (no clue how that happened). So I went to switch accounts but the only accounts visible in the Startup screen are her's (which is still a temporary account) and an account titled "Other User" which requires a username + a password -- mine is completely gone.So when I'm in my mom's (temporary) account I can still access the control panel and My Computer, which shows that the accounts do exist!! And so do all of their files!! So all I need to do is get them to show back up in the Startup menu?

I have been working on a friends computer, trying to clean it up a little. I am logged onto the administrator account that he had set up, but it also shows it as a guest account and I can't do anything with the other accounts. I am trying to delete some of the standard user accounts that he doesn't want on it anymore and I can't do anything with them. When I try to create a new user account it shows "The specified account name is not valid, because account names can not contain the following characters:/[]";:|<>+=,?* Please type a different name"

I have windows 7, one thing I have trouble with is getting individual accounts to act as individual accounts. I want to have a user account for me and one for my wife. I want each one to have their own google chrome browser and their own google drive accounts. I may in the future want to download programs on one or the other user account without them showing up on both accounts. I think I may have messed up when setting up and made the admin my account rather than having an admin account plus two other user accounts, one for me and one for my wife.

I got a second-hand PC with windows 7. I deleted the previous owner's accounts and created new ones called Owner (regular) and Owner-admin (admin access). Since then everything is messed up..The previous owner account still had files in /users/[account name]/ after I deleted the account. I deleted those and they were mostly gone, but some are protected or are recreated on reboot. Even though I always log in as Owner, downloaded files often en up in the previous owner's "My documents/downloads". When I try to copy them into my new "My documents/downloads", I don't have write permission. I can't write into my own user account directories...? I thought I'd recreate the previous owner's account and try to undo it from the inside out, but ended up with a Owner.Carl-VAIO.Carl-VAIO' as well as aOwner.Carl-VAIO' account. I tried to install Thunderbird, but it is so confused about what is what that it won't install. I can't blame it.
After it was already too late I discovered that my computer thinks it is part of a workgroup. I tried to reset this (it's a standalone), but I couldn't - the button remained greyed out no matter what. Not sure if that has anything to do with the problem. What can I do, other than re-install the OS with an installation CD I don't have?

Can user profiles be synced between machines within the same homegroup? If not, during the setup of the user, can I copy user preferences/profile settings so when they log in for the first time they don't have to reset everything?
