Use Process Monitor To Disable Windows Media Player?
Nov 6, 2012I have been trying to disable windows media Player.
Someone suggested using PROCESS MONITOR. Do you know what steps I would take?

Dual Monitor Issue - Media Player
Nov 28, 2009I have a primary monitor and then I run S-Video out to the TV so I can watch video clips.
With Vista, I had no trouble starting a video clip in media player on the primary screen and then dragging it over to the second monitor (TV) for actual viewing.
However, I tried to do that with Windows 7-it won't let me drag Media Player over to the second monitor. I can drag other applications to the second Window (Word, Browsers), but not any media program. Even tried another media player application.
Not sure what to do-how can I get this to work? I want to be able to watch TV/Movies on my second monitor.
Possible To Set Windows Media Player Open As Default Media Player

I am using it inside windows 7 ultimate X64. Dec 22, 2010How can I make Windows Media Player stop updating media every freaking time I start it up? It always hogs up massive amount of CPU power and goes into (Not Responding) for a min while updating.I only add media files to the Windows Explorer Library so I can get indexed searches. I don't even use WMP to view files or anything. Just to burn some music CDs sometimes.I've tried deleting the files from the WMP library but the next time I open it up, it scans and updates all my files again! Is there a way to completely purge the WMP library and make it not update ever? I've unchecked every option that seems to make it scan and update but it still does it.Basically I want to UNLINK the Windows Explorer Library from the WMP Library.

Dec 22, 2010My computer is unable to sleep automatically and if i manually set it, it will wake up after 1 hour.
Upon running powercfg -lastwake the system states that a particular process is responsible for setting a wake timer. further checking powercfg -waketimers confirms that there is a process that constantly sets up a wake timer.

This process is set every hour from the running of the program. eg open at 9.29, it expires at 10.29. after 10.29 it will reset and expire at 11.29.
So there is no way I can put it to sleep for more than an hour. Checking task scheduler reveals nothing related. there is a way to permanently block this process from resisting sleep, I do not plan to prevent tasks from waking up Windows altogether, disabling it from power configuration .
Change Default Media Player / Icons On Media Files Not Changed
Nov 28, 2012I have VLC Portable as the default program for opening some video files, like .mp4 and .avi. And I have Foobar (portable) as the default program for .mp3.Usually the icons on .mp4, .avi, .mp3 files get updated with the icons of the assigned media players.But on this PC it's not working. They're still the same icons as if WMP was the default player.Does it have to do with the Standard user account? (Because on other PCs I run from an Admin account and I don't have such problems.)

Jul 25, 2011I'm in grave problem here. I just installed windows 7 x64 a few days back. And initially I installed the 32bit version of k-lite codec pack for my windows media player. The media center worked fine then. It was loading my ffdshow and ac3filter along as I checked it.But then yesterday I noticed that the same pop-up od recommended/express install of WMP came again. Initially I thought that it must be some bug or something, but then when my MKV and AVI files didn't work in WMC, I realized that somehow WMP x64 got triggered, and now it is using the x64 bit of WMP in WMC. And I just wanna revert back to 32-bit WMP in WMC.

Dec 20, 2009I can't get eithe WMP or MC to play a DVD. I've set the region code. WMP acts like it will play, but then just goes blank, and MC says it cannot play the DVD. These are original discs, not burned copies. I have a custom built system, with 2 graphics cards (GTX 260 and a GT 220) 6 GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nov 14, 2012Media player won't rip CD's. When you go to options, Rip Music, there is no default location shown for the file. When you click "Channge Location", nothing happens. So I can't rip CD's in my version of Windows 7.

Jun 15, 2012I tried to break the disk on several parts with Partition Manager, but at the middle of the process it froze and I forced the computer to restart. After resetting it says to "Insert the Recover Disk or other Recovery Media". After it I put the disc with the Windows 7 and at the menu where you have to choose to move (by keyboard arrows) to installation, the keyboard does not work, so I can't move to the installation and it jumps directly to the Local Disc. I also tried Windows XP disc and the same problem - there is no chance to reinstall the system. The keyboard is working in the BIOS, but after does not work.

Apr 30, 2012I just installed a clean install on my 64bit machine with Windows7 Pro. Media Player is nowhere to be found. Searching the drive discovered hundreds of files that are not executable and have the registry naming system in them, also found several .dlls but no executable. Microsoft's site simply says that it is installed with the OS and there is nothing about how to add it. I did look through all the add windows features and did not find it. I also tried to find the .cab file on the install DVD to see if I could manually install it, but I could not find that as the file structure of install discs has changed since I knew how to do this before.

Dec 30, 2010My WMP12 used to work. but nowadays, what it does whenever i try to open it is show its window for like 20 milliseconds, then close. My Encarta 2009 doesn't work well, it says it needs the WMP to play, so does my desktop gadgets. I think something happened. i tried using sfc/scannow but even it cannot solve the problem. i don't know what to do. I am currently in dilemma because most of the Win 7 features rely so much in wmp12. how am i going to use it if doesn't work? P.S. i also tried turning on and off media feature pack. it doesn't work. I am currently using Win 7 Ultimate, 2 GB ram, 1 GB vid card and Intel Duo P6100. my laptop is just a month old but its system is like failing

Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings." I thought maybe it was my video driver, however, I rolled it back and it still didn't work. I installed the K-Lite mega codec pack, but that didn't work. However, the Media Player Classic which got installed with the codec pack works, although I don't really like the program. VLC wasn't working either, however, I reinstalled that and it's working fine now. I'm just curious as to why my media player won't play dvd's. It's the program that I usually used to play DVD's.
