View 1 Repliesi purchased windows vista that came with a windows 7 pro upgrade coupon so i could have an os for the time being and upgrade to 7 later. upon receiving my 7 upgrade i have had great performance increases in both games and applications but there was a problem, every time i game (and now its just started happening when im not gaming as well) i have had sporadic blue screen problems. all relating to the Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power (in event viewer it is categorized as error 41). the thing is this just started happening right after i used the upgrade disc to upgrade from vista business x64 to 7 pro x64.
i have done the following troubleshooting steps, i have replaced the bridge on my SLI setup, i have checked the power supply connections inside my pc, i have looked and preformed all available driver updates. if anyone has any suggestions as to why i am having these issues with the Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power.
Today while playing league of legends on my typically stable pc my screen went black and it froze. When I restarted my computer it would not start windows 75% of the time, and when it did finally start up it would work for about an hour then freeze again. It seemed to me like a system overheat because I don't have any new hardware and it is pretty hot here, but my temps on my cores are around 50 celcius and my gpu is around 60.I have a mostly prebuilt and quad core 2.2 ghz with a new psu (corsair 750 tx) gpu (6950 2gb) and case (mid to full sized).

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've just purchased a brand new Sony Vaio netbook with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, (1.7Ghz CPU, 4GB RAM).
As soon as I activate the Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) software which comes with the Windows 7 OS, the computer becomes very unstable and fails to open programs, even the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del). As soon as I close WSR all of the commands (i.e. to open other applications) are suddenly executed.
i only just bought a used Acer netbook that is running thet starter win 7...all was working fine for around 5 hours and since then every now and again and for between just a few seconds to having to shut the machine down and restart, the pointer is unstable and jumps to buggery all over the screen...there also appears to be some interference with the touchpad as it is ultra sensitive and the left and right buttons are also dodgy...I have used Acer netbooks before and never had any problems at all...I have seen many threads related to this as soon as I looked it up and am wondering if the is any sort of fix available...I have just found the synaptics box in my netbook and twindled around a little and so far it seems better but this is just how things have been since I got this Acer just 4 days ago.

It has been going on for a while now, I have tried everything I can think of to no avail.I get Blue Screens out of the blue from anywhere, i can be idle to playing a game to the computer just getting into windows. On the link above I've tried many things, inluding memtest, driver verifyer, chkdisk, uninstalling norton (he said that could be the problem), system repair, a complete re-install of windows 7, updating all my drivers. To most recently cutting back to 4GB ram and making the timings and voltages to the correct setting instead of being on 'auto' in my bios, and it still BSODing. I have also ran 'prime95' on a blend test, and had errors on core #4:
I'm having issues since I started using wireless, when playing games (does not matter which, I will always get these lag spikes) where the game will freeze and treadmil (everybody will walk in spot) then unfreeze, this will happen multiple times and is very annoying, making games close to unplayable

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to fix these BSODS for a while, and have been told it is a wireless adaptor driver causing the problem. However I have uninstalled and updated that driver, and whilst crashes are less frequent they still occur. Also games which were previously very stable now crash/freeze every time. Fixes I've tried:
Running anti virus (AVG)
Running a registry cleaner
Running a Malware cleaner
Replacing old RAM with newer and more RAM.
Removing Daemon tools
Cleaning the inside of the case, (graphics card is not overheating) Uninstalling and updating wireless adaptor drivers Uninstalling and updating graphics card drivers. The usual system restores/CHKDSK etc. I've attached files as per the forum's BSOD rules. Below is my system, it is about 4 years old and originally came with Vista, which was upgraded with windows 7.

To start off, I would like to explain the situation the laptop was in when I received it from my sister and what she informed me of how it happened. The laptop has only one hard drive, it is running one partition of Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.The computer froze while she was listening to music, the hard drive activity was halted, music was stuttering, she forced shutdown after ten minutes of no response. The computer then noted the inability to boot after the POST was initiated. A screen appeared noting Windows 7 needed to run a start-up repair before beginning (Running the start-up repair ended with a long boot time and eventually hanging up with a black screen with an enlarged cursor that could be moved, no further progress. The second option to start with the last settings for boot resulted in the same result as the first. What I did to fix this problem, I tried using safe-mode to see if the problem was driver based or software based, as my sister noted she did not install or tamper with any software before the problem, I was unsure of how to proceed. All attempts of booting into the various safe-mode protocols resulted in the computer hanging on loading CLASSPNP.SYS, then after a minute it would result in a BSOD with 'unable to mount boot volume'. The Windows 7 recovery disc lead to the same result of trying to do the repair or booting up normally, hanging with the large cursor in the middle. I eventually decided to load up some utilities and used a Gateway (The computer brand) hard drive scanner to attempt to fix the problem, this worked, miraculously. After this fixed the problem I was able to boot normally the first time, yet it ran startup repair, and fixed a few errors before booting. The system as it stands now,The system boots up in normal time without any errors. Safe mode still hangs and blue screens after stopping at loading CLASSPNP.SYS. I hoped to run chkdsk and sfc through the command prompt to try and see if it could fix this problem, yet both hang before running. 'sfc /scannow' through the command prompt gives the result 'Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation'. 'chkdsk /r' through the command prompt runs at the next boot and gives an error along the lines of 'Windows can not run chkdsk due to a recent software change' and then proceeds to boot up without doing the scan. I've cleaned the system of malware using various tools to see if this was the problem, yet it does not seem to make a difference. I have attempted to replace the 'CLASSPNP.SYS' with a working copy off of my computer, yet it results in the same situation. Running start-up repair with the Windows 7 recovery disc does not work and says it is unable to proceed now, strangely.I am wondering if doing an upgrade to the same copy of Windows 7 will allow me to have a clean boot record and hopefully fix the problem. It creates a 'Windows.old'; this should be fine for the current situation, right? My sister plays various games such as the Sims 3 and a few others, and has 40GB+ of music on here that she does not want to lose. Will performing an upgrade(if possible in this situation?) keep the music, and actual application folders that could be run on the upgraded system? If not, I could scrounge up a hard drive to create a backup of the music and the game save files, but it would be annoying to have to install all of the game over again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have this problem with my laptop. If i am using a cable to connect to the internet and then unplug it and switch to wireless connection, the internet connection gets unstable. The thing is it says it is connected to the right wireless connection AND it claims to have internet connection. - And i do - for a few minutes.. If i deactivate/activate the wireless internet i am able to surf around for a few minutes again, but then it does the same thing again - shows up as having internet connection but im unable to connect to it..Strangest thing is that i am sometimes able to connect to the internet ONLY if another computer is using the wireless internet too.. It still shows up as recieving a nice signal with internet access even though i cant connect to the internet.
The same problem also occurs sometimes when im switching from one wireless connection (at home etc) to another (work etc)..I've had this problem for a few months now.. Comming to think of it i might have had this problem ever since i got my laptop.. Rebooting my computer fixes it every time, but it's not a permanent solution.. Im running original Windows 7 Home Premium x64 which came with the laptop.. Also im not using static ip or anything like that - switching to static ip doesn't do the trick.. Running ipconfig /all command from cmd also shows me as connected to the right router.. The problem occurs every time i switch between cable and wireless and not only at my home or work but also at friends..I'm not sure if i need to leave any more details, if i've left anything out just let me know.
I have had my computer for 3 years and it has worked great, i got a new router bout 4 months ago and it works great. about 2 weeks ago my desktop's connection which is wired, basically stopped working. It lets me get online, but the connection either keeps dropping or just doesnt work. Ive watched my connection and it will disconnect alot and instantly reconnect. I can get online but my page takes half a minute to load, and sometimes it just wont load and say it cannot connect to the web page. I have tried google chrome and media firefox and they dont work either. I have reset modem and router many times and that didnt help even a bit. I have switched routers and that didnt help either. In networking safe mode, my connection is completely stable and it runs fast and loads everything. I have ran norton and malawarebytes many times and my connection is still unstable. I have stwitched ethernet cords too and that didnt help either. I have two labtops and a ps3 and their connection works completely fine so it would just be my computer. Since it runs great in networking mode, it might be hardware but i dont know what. It might not be hardware though because i am nowhere near a computer knowledgable.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a pc with Windows XP pro 32bit retail version. First I have made an image, just in case. Then I have upgraded it to windows 8, 64bit by using the retail upgrade DVD and clean install. However, I found out that my motherboard is so old (5 years old) that there are no drivers for win8 and after asking ASUS they said that the motherboard is not supported any more and that there will be no new drivers for it. I tried using win7 drivers but it did not work and without correct drivers a lot of things does not work (in particularly hdmi port). What I want to do now is to revert to my image (windows xp), buy a Windows 7, 64bit upgrade retail DVD and upgrade windows xp to windows 7 for which there are drivers for my motherboard.
1) Can I use windows xp retail (whose product key has already been used to upgrade to win8) image to upgrade to windows 7 retail? will the activation of windows 7 succeed? I want to use clean install again since i upgrade from 32bit to 64bit
2) If the answer to question 1 is a yes, how does microsoft prevent users from using the same windows image file to upgrade different pc's? I mean, theoretically, I can make an image of pc1, copy it to a hard drive of pc2 (even if it will result in erroneous installation due to different specs) and upgrade both systems by using two VUP product keys which are cheaper than one VUP + one retail product keys
3) Can I use windows 8 upgrade DVD which is not used any more to upgrade another PC?

But when I go to upgrade anytime it asks for an upgrade key, but all I have with the purchase was a product key and it says that I can't use the product key.
any help?

I installed Win 7 RC on a new build and purchased Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM with upgrade to Win 7 Home premium. The Win 7 upgrade disc has arrived. I understand that Vista must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work. Attempts to install Vista with Win 7 RC running or booting from the Vista disc lead to error code 0x80070103, insufficient free space. My HDD has > 450 Gb free space in 2 partitions. Do I need to reformat the HDD in order to install Vista over Win 7?
View 9 Replies View RelatedCustomer dropped off a laptop telling me that his Windows upgrade had failed.
It's a new HP DV6 that had Vista pre-installed on it.
I've taken a look at it, and there's a "Windows.old" folder on the root of C:, which is of course a back up of all his data.
There's also a batch file inside the folder with the following inside of it:
"REM Dummy file for NTVDM"
I'm wondering if there's a way to "continue" the upgrade / merging process? He has asked me to re-install all of his software the way he had it. So i'm hoping there's an easier way to continue where he left off.
I know Windows 7 creates a "Windows.old" folder when upgrading from XP. Not sure why one was created for a Vista to Windows 7 upgrade though.
I'm considering whether to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. IMHO, the new OS seems to be not sufficiently "mature" yet, and it is better to wait for the first service pack to come out before actually upgrading.
