"Unable To Connect To A Windows Service"
Aug 10, 2011
I have an HP tm2t tablet with windows 7 64-bit. It works flawlessly except for one annoying thing. Most of the time, it will boot up strangely, almost like it's in safe mode. The windows 7 symbol is a rectangle and not a circle, and the graphics are toned down like that as if it was in safe mode. My computer is unable to recognize wireless signals and connect to the internet. Also, I get a message from the bottom right corner saying "Unable to connect to a windows service". If I just restart my computer it will start normally and run fine. I have to do this almost every time I turn on my computer.

My mom's laptop is detecting that our wireless internet connection is active, but it won't actually connect to the internet. When we troubleshoot the issue, it says that our diagnostic policy service isn't running. Since we can't connect to the internet on the laptop, we can't run any updates or perform any virus scans. We've tried manually adding a network service through cmd.exe, and uninstalling the network adapters and restarting the computer. We've also tried to run a system file check, but it doesn't seem to activate. The sfc box just disappears when we try to initiate a scan. I imagine we might have to back up her important files and just reinstall the operating system, but her laptop came with a preinstalled OS, and no discs.

Can anyone advise how I would go about fixing this. I am trying to connect to a network (I have a dell running on windows 7) and it keeps telling me that windows is unable to connect to the network-this is before I can even enter the security key. I know it is not a problem with the wireless because other people are able to connect to it fine.

I booted my computer this morning and I could tell that something wasn't completely right. It took an incredibly long time to get to the user account selection, didn't play the startup sounds, and when I finally log in, the Windows Aero theme had been set to the classic one similar to Windows 2000. I tried to restart the computer and it couldn't do it because it was waiting for the log off sound, which wasn't playing. I clicked force restart and the computer just sat at the desktop. After a hard reboot, I started Windows normally and in the lower right corner I got a message saying that Windows failed to connect to a Windows Service.

- When I turn the computer on windows takes a long time to load, about 5 times longer than usual
- My keyboard now does not work (tried others to be sure)

After turning on my computer today it fails to connect to the internet or windows service. My computer doesn't acknowledge my internet network and now at the bottom right of my desktop says Windows 7 is not genuine when it is. I did a system restore several days back and the problem still persists. I just failed to use Malwarebytes even in Safe Mode + Networking because it is now corrupt, missing files, or mabservices is down. I did a virus scan with indexes last updated feb 28th and found nothing.

So recently I had hardware issues, and through warranty I had several replacements done. Mobo, Video cards, ram sticks, and the power supply. After all that was fixed and replaced my computer seemed to have ran fine for a few days, and it still technically is except for this problem.The problem is when I log in into windows normally it takes a while for Windows to boot up. I get a "Please wait" screen, then after a long 4 minute log in once inside windows I get the"Windows could not connect to the system event notification service", and the toolbar is grey all old school windows like.
[url]...
In services the service is called System event notification, it says that the service is running fine. Even when i try to restart it, it makes no difference at all.

"Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service". This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond. This is the error message I receive when I log on to my computer. It doesn't seem to happen every time I log on but probably 50% of the time. When this error appears the only things I seem to notice differently are that the audio doesn't work and the windows tool bar's graphics are basic (as if i was in safe mode).

In an attempt to log on to Windows 7, I could not get to the desktop and the error message: "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service." It also, said, "Location is not available: C:Windowssystem32configsystemprofiledesktop." I ran system restore and was able to get the desk top screen, however, nothing responded and in an attempt to shut down, I had to hit control/alt/del which now has me stuck in Logging off.....

I've a jar file which contains a very simple program of displaying "Hello" message in the console. I've pasted the code at the end of this thread.I want to run this jar file as a windows service. This service gets started without any hiccup,However,It simply wouldn't start the service. I've tried running this service as using NET and Sc command. But in vain. Below is the error I'm facing:
C:Windowssystem32>sc start MajaService
[SC] StartService FAILED with error 193.
Further, as a workaround I created a .bat file for executing this .jar file and again tried creating a window service for this .bat file,In this event i get the followingh error:
[SC] StartService FAILED 1053:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
Below is my program:
import java.io.*;
class Hello implements Runnable{
Thread thread;
Hello(){
thread = new Thread(this, "Hello1");
thread.start();
} public void run(){
try {
while(true){
System.out.println("Hello");
Thread.sleep(500);
}}
catch(Exception e){}
} public static void main(String[] args){
Hello h = new Hello();

I've been getting this warning now for a few months and just can't seem to be able to find out how to fix this or get rid of the warning in my Event Viewer. I own a Acer 8943g Notebook running Windows 7 x64/4gb RAM/Core i5 430M processor. My drivers all seem to be up to date. The services are running and I'm just at a loss.I'm an above average user so I'm not lost when it comes to troubleshooting, but this problem seems to have a lot of different solutions and I can't seem to pin one down, so hopefully I've come to the right place.

After recently downloading the service pack, I've had issues with my computer, including the themes service not working. I want to uninstall the pack so that I can do a system repair using my disc because my disc is older than the service pack. However, the service pack doesn't show up on the programs list. If I try to uninstall by looking at windows update or the command prompt I get an error message that says:
Installer encountered an error: 0x80073712
The component store has been corrupted.
I have already done a sfc file checker thing through the command prompt, and it said that some files were corrupted, and I couldn't access the log (access denied). I'm currently running the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium. I obtained the log from the sfc scan. [URL]

My HP with Windows 7 suddenly gives me the following error message on startup: "Failed to connect to a Windows service: Could not connect to System Event Notification Service." Among other things, this prevents me from connecting to my wireless network, so I can't get on-line. Rebooting doesn't help. And the problem occurs regardless of whether I sign on as administrator or as general user.More: I can't access the Windows Help & Support pages. And I'm told to "see System Events log" for details, but when I try, it says "Event Log Service is unavailable."

I have tried each and every one of the solutions on the forums and over here. All my drivers are up to date (double checked), I rolled back and uninstalled all updates, Did sfc /scannow three times and they passed without any integrity violations. I've tried netsh winsock reset as well. The aero is gone, greyed out plus I can't select any other theme and whenever I start up the computer it displays the message "Could not connect to a Windows service".This started happening about 2 months ago when my laptop ran out of battery in hibernate mode. It didn't resume so I had to press the power button again and then it took about 8 minutes to boot with nothing but a black screen and the mouse there. The audio service isn't running every time I boot up (I have to right click and run troubleshooter to start it). I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate on a Sony Vaio VGN-NW25GF. Intel Duo core T6600 and the ATI Radeon HD Graphics 4570 card.

My computer recently started having issues........ here is what is going on:
* boot computer
* Windows boot screen displayed ~ 1 minute
* screen goes black. Can move mouse. Drive light constantly on, not blinking. ~ 5 minutes
* log in screen comes up / log in
* Desktop loads ~ 1 minute > sometimes it loads with regular windows aero theme other times it loads with basic windows classic theme.
* Error message pop up "failed to connect to System event notification service"
* Have to wait for about 5 more minutes before computer is actually usable
* Occasionally the audio service does not work as well...
From when I press the power button to when I can actually use my computer takes 10 - 15 minutes. Here is what I have tried so far:
* Turning off all start up programs / services
* Uninstalled AVG anti virus
* PC Tools Registry mechanic registry clean up
* Tested Memory - passed
* Hard Drive Self Test ---- # 1 - 7 fail / #10008 Fail > I am guessing that this is the source of the problem, however my computer does still work once everything is finally booted. So I don't know what to do with that information or if that test even matters.
* I have tried looking at the event viewer but every time it says that the event log service is unavailable > I try turning on Windows Event Log but that does not change anything
* I tried "netsh winsock reset" in command prompt, based on a different thread that I found - it didn't work
Possible useful information:
Windows 7 Professional x64 upgraded from vista
Avg Anti Virus
PC tools Registry mechanic
HP pavilion dv2000 (dv2915nr)
Intel Core 2 Duo: T5550, 1830 Mhz
4gb ram upgraded from 3 gb
