Sep 21, 2012Computer Windows7 1T Hdd, 6GB Ram, Intel i5 chip I have just changed over to Windows 7 and transferred Thunderbird profiles folder to the AppDatalocal but it does not open in Thunderbird, I have tried everything without success to get this to work.

I want to transfer my husband's emails to his new laptop.We have separate tiscali email addresses, but the email all comes in on my Vista laptop.We do have a network, but I am completely flumoxed as to how to do this as I do not want to find all my email going to his machine.

When I right click on the file, and click send to email recipient, i get an error telling me no email program is associated to perform this action.I don't have any stand alone email program s installed. I strictly use web based email (gmail & hotmail) as my mail programs. I do not wish to install a stand alone program such as outlook or Thunderbird. Sep 11, 2011I've been running XP for some years and recently set up Win 7 on a new SSD. In XP and using Opera browser, if I clicked on an web page's email link, my email client (Sylpheed) would open with the address inserted. With Win 7 and the email defaults set, it won't. Instead, it always returns an "Internal communication error" page (example link: Contact Us | PCWorld). Below are screenshots of my Win 7 email defaults and Opera preferences setting. One thing I'm not sure about, if it's at all relevant, is where Opera is picking up the default application from. In XP, it picked up Opera email as the default. The Other Application file location shown is exactly the same in both, except for the drive letter.

Activesync works perfectly on my phone so that portion of the network is open at my work. I have been doing some reaserch and in order to get Outlook to sync with Exchange Server without VPN, RPC over HTTP or Outlook Anywhere must be enabled on the network. I know for a fact that our IT department have that portion disabled.

Nov 23, 2011When in the my document folder - there is an option to highlight a file and click the "Email" link which is present on the light blue bar at the top of the screen.On another Windows 7 machine I have seen - a dialogue box pops up when you click this link and you can choose which email client to send this the file to.Does anybody know how I can make this happen - and get such a dialogue box to show options for AOL 9.6 software and or Outlook 2007 / Windows Mail. I have all 3 running on my system and different email accounts setup in all (happy to leave it that way).

Aug 5, 2012I have an externally connected (by way of USB) samsung hard drive from my dead HP Slimline Vista connected to my newer HP Slimline Windows 7. The old drive powers and runs and the new computer recognizes it in printers and devices but I can't open it to access files etc. I know the old drive was formatted with Vista and 7 can't read the old drive. But it's my understanding that there are drivers that should be able to open and allow me to read and transfer from the old to the new. Mar 21, 2012I bought an SSD drive for my computer, only 60GB or so, and wanted to run my OS on it, and a few programs I use most days (Adobe suite / few games). Then use my existing drive (About 140GB) for photos and other things.
So far I've put the SSD drive in my computer, hooked it up, and formatted it so it shows on my 'My Computer' as drive :E.
I know how to put programs over, but how, and what is the best way to transfer my Windows 7 OS over to it?

Oct 22, 2009I know that there are no MS methods for transferring programs after performing a custom install. I can't do an upgrade because I'm upgrading from 32 bit Vista Ultimate to 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. This means re-installing masses of software and patches and updates. The last time I did this, from XP to Vista, it took weeks to finally complete the process.
I have found this application Laplink PCmover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant that purports to move your existing applications from Vista to 7 on the same PC. The company has a good reputation and for about £10 it doesn't seem bad value (1 migration).
Anyone know anything about it?

Dec 5, 2012i have an old-school Sony DCR-TRV103 camera that has digital recording on hi8 tapes. I'm trying to transfer the videos from the tapes to my laptop. One laptop is running Windows XP with a firewire port and the other is an ultrabook running Windows 7 (usb ports only).I'm looking for the most inexpensive way to be able to transfer videos to the laptop. As far as I can tell, the video camera only has a firewire out. 1. How do I do this?
2. Are there any other files or info I should transfer?
I'm trying to avoid losing anything if the old laptop dies (no signs, just old). I store all my program backups, pictures and documents on a portable hard drive and cds.
3. Should I be doing more? I notice my Lenovo automatically backs up every day.
