I first noticed that I was suffering from a massive slowdown problem that often prevents me from opening programs or even shutting down the computer from a cold startup. My computer is currently running chkdsk from bootup and is finding file segments 58724-58731, 58756-58763 unreadable.My computer is running Windows 7 sp1. This is the second time this has happened; I had reformatted the hard drive once already due to this issue, and it has now started occurring again two weeks later.Considering that all I've only put League of Legends, LackeyCCG, and Google Chrome on my computer, I doubt this is a software issue. I have heard that I may have to replace my HDD if I'm receiving errors such as this in such volume. If this is one of the vagaries of purchasing used computers, how should I act? Do warranties typically cover dead hard drives, and if not how much would it cost to replace mine?

The site I purchased my computer from pre built it for me but I did purchase the Windows 7 disk so I guess full retail.- What is the age of system (hardware)? About 5 months- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) About 5 months, no re-installForgot to mention that the computer came over clocked. View 2 Replies View RelatedMy daughter's Sony VAIO PCG-71911M running windows 7 is suffering from the BSOD within seconds of entering her windows password. The blue screen is all gibberish to me but Bad_Pool_Header appears as the error at the top of the screen on most occassions.
I am able to boot using Safe Mode and Networking and the laptop appears to be very stable when this option is selected.
Through Safe Mode I have attempted system restores which allow me to get past the windows password stage on a normal boot. But I then get error messages and network connectivity is unavailable when i then reboot I end up with the BSOD issue again.
I bought a Vaio laptop when working in Germany with Win 7 Home Premium. The reinstall on this would be from an install partition and in german. I upgraded to german Ultimate by buying a DVD and installing the English language pack. Its time to do a clean reinstall.
Before taking the plunge would anybody know if there is the option to install ultimate direct from the DVD in English or do i have to follow the above tortuous route.

i went and brought windows 7 ultimate today ( a small shop was selling them early), i want to install it but im wondering how i will get all the drivers for my laptop back as the sony site is absolutely useless.

My brother was doing something on iTunes, think unlocking a iPhone or something but when i came home and turned it on, it came up with Windows logo but then saying Preparing PC for first use and then a error comes up saying Windows needs to restart to continue installation. It restarts and does it all over again. I tried going into safe mode to do a system restore but comes up with same msg of preparing pc for first use and needs to restart. All i can think is something has corrupted the boot up and need to repair it but not sure where to go for it. There is a recovery option on the laptop from sony but that says it restores your laptop to factory settings

So far as I can tell, the BIOS says that the 1st boot device is Internal Optical Drive, 2nd Internal Hard Disk Drive. No drives are "Excluded from Boot." I'm having problems getting the OS to boot on the HDD, so I've got my Win 7 Installation Disc in the DVD drive to try to do a re-image. But it won't boot from the CD!
What else could I do/check on this in order to get it to boot from the CD?

This is a I7 Quad core (1.73ghz) laptop with 4 Gigs of ram, a dedicated Nvidia GT 425M video card and a newly installed Crucial M4 SSD drive (256gb).
Prior to the installation of the new drive, the laptop would constantly run hot and bog down as if it were running full blast even while running the most basic of applications. Just recently I've installed the SSD drive thinking that maybe the drive that came with the laptop was nearing the end of its service life. However the system still bogs down and runs hot without any indication of what the cause maybe.
So far I've attempted the following:
-Windows system file checker
-Microsoft Security Essentials (complete scan)
-Malwarebytes (complete scan)
-Advanced System Care (complete scan)
-Avast (complete scan)
-Windows "Fix It" tool
-Windows Check-disk
-Removed all software that I didn't need
i dont know where is webcam is available in this laptop but when i check to the drivermanager it shows a dialog box with "this device is properly active"

After replacing the fan - i was able to control the noise - but my laptop starts to powers down automatically. This does not happen always. I checked the below things
1) Power Supply - no issues
2) Battery - no issues
I am not sure what is causing the laptop to power down automatically.
