Slow Startup - Took About 15 To 20 Minutes

Sep 14, 2011

My laptop was working fine until about two days ago. I can't remember doing anything harmful to it specifically but suddenly significant loading issues have manifested. Today it took me about fifteen to twenty minutes simply to get to the stage where the computer was usable. Once it reached this stage, everything is fine and nice and speedy again. I have run virus checks using Malwarebytes and AVG (nothing detected), run CCleaner, defragged and removed all unnecessary start-up programs, resulting in no improvement whatsoever.

My specs are as follows:
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 2
Processor Count: 4

Windows 7 Startup Slow (2 To 3 Minutes) Without Boot Manager

Dec 17, 2011

I have a 64G SSD drive and a 300G hard drive. I set c drive drive to be the whole SSD drive. Cd drive to d: and an e drive to be 100G. (out of the 300G). I am running an AMD phenom quad core with 12 G of memory. I have tried diabling all start programs. I downloaded all of the latest drivers from Gigabyte and also got the AMD series series 7 chip set drivers from AMD. When windows boots, it sits at starting windows for 2-3 minutes and then loads.

I have set custom events for ids 100-110 and it shows nothing or warnings on event 100 with no details. Once the balls become the windows icon, windows brings up my long on. Here is the vital clue, I installed Norton ghost 15. when I copy the drive to a third hard drive, the boot manager comes up. When I select boot windows 7, it load starting windows and then the balls with the windows icon almost instantly. It stays like this way even when I disconnect the 3rd drive. If I remove boot manager, I am back to 2-3 minutes to get past starting windows.

Slow Boot Time Slow Startup And Hangs?

Nov 18, 2011

I bought this Fujitsu laptop for less than a year. Its only for my school work. It takes forever to bootup, startup and it sometime hangs when I open up a program or typing. For the bootup, it takes very long time on the window logo, after that the black screen, followed by the welcome page with the loading cursor. Each of this process take a long time. For startup, its not so long but its still quite lag. For the opening up of program and typing, everytime I open up my visual studio, it will take a long time to show up and even if it showed up, it will be "not responding".So I will have to open it a second time before I can start using itWhen I am typing my codes, it will randomly hang and show that the program is not responding. I am still able to move my cursor though.

HDD Light Always On And Slow Boot (About 7 Minutes)

Aug 31, 2011

I recently experiencing a serious problem with my laptop (Sony-vaio Z720D). It has became very slow and system startup takes too much time (about 7 mins), after starting up, HDD light is permanently on and system is very slow for about 30 mins and then it comes back to normal. I checked the running processes from task manager but there's nothing to do with them, also startup programs aren't taking too much memory. My function keys are not working except for volume control. I am pretty sure that there's no virus in my system, I checked it with my antivirus (nod32) and microsoft security essentials. I also checked my c drive with CHKDSK it could'nt find any error related.

Really Slow / Unresponsive For 10 - 15 Minutes After Boot / Log-in?

May 2, 2012

I'm not sure what happened to cause this but one day (around 2 weeks ago) my laptop running Windows 7 started taking really long to log in. For 2 years I never had any issues, and it would boot / log in and be ready for use within a minute. For the last 2 weeks, every time I try to log in (whether the laptop was powered off or sleeping), my computer is unresponsive / lagging and slow for at least 10 minutes (no programs work, nothing will open, etc.). After a lengthy period of time after log in, it seems to operate normally until I don't use it long enough for it to go back to sleep, and then I experience the same issue when I attempt to log back in

Windows 7 Slow Boot (Taking Up 4 Minutes)

Jan 22, 2013

I have a 2 year old Dell Inspiron 1750, Windows 7 Home Premium that is taking upwards of 4 minutes to boot up. If I boot in safe mode it will boot fine except it does hang ever so slightly while loading drivers, with the last driver being classpnp.sys but it is only for a few seconds then proceeds to finish booting up without any issues.

Here is what I have done so far...
- Stopped a lot of programs from starting up at start up.
- Ran Malwarebytes and Virus Scan (Microsoft Essentials) both in safe mode. I then downloaded and ran CC Cleaner. Malwarebytes detected numerous entries of PUP.MyWebSearch and two entries for Trojan.Vundo. It was able to fix both issues. Virus Scan (Full) came back clean. CCleaner did it's thing.
- Opened device manager to check to see if there were any driver issues, and I don't see any indication of that.

After all this the slow boot still happens. Now all this being said, once the computer does boot up it runs quickly without any issues.

Windows 7 Running Slow After Logon For Over 5 Minutes?

Feb 5, 2013

I've got Windows 7 64 bit Home user premium on a Compaq Presario Cq61 Laptop. Bootup is reasonable in terms of time and log on screen appears reasonably quickly. The welcome screen takes 1 minute before going to the desktop. After that it runs really slow for about 5 minutes. There is a lot of disc activity but I don't know what service, etc is causing it. I de fragged, run system file checker, used MS config to ensure only 6 startup items and turned off numerous services but still can find out what is running in the background for so long. After 5 mins the machine runs well. I do use Avast anti virus and it loads a definition file on startup. I disabled that setting to manual update only but it made no difference. I don't use any other anti virus.

Startup Taking 7 Minutes After Update

Dec 6, 2012

I recently reinstalled my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS, and had about 120 updates installed when I shut down my computer. The next time I started up my computer, a notification popped up requesting that I install two system updates. I did find it odd that those updates weren't a part of the 120 or so updates. While updating, my power went out and caused my computer to shut down. That's when the problems started, it took forever to start up, and not just to the startup screen. Before that, the fans would be running. There was no display and my mouse and keyboard were off. It'd go on for about 4 minutes. When things started to show up, everything seemed to be in "slow motion", or in other words, all actions made by me were delayed or lagging by at least a minute. I found out during the boot screen when I had choices to start windows normally or not.
The computer also beeped once, which I understand is normal. From beep to the "Starting Windows" screen, it took 2 minutes and 20 seconds. And the "Starting Windows" screen plus the "Welcome" screen took 50 seconds to get to the Desktop screen.

Windows 7 Freezes A Few Minutes After Startup?

Jan 14, 2013

I am new to the forum and seeking help.I recently experienced a bad boot sector on my HDD and had to reinstall Windows 7 (x64). I then also installed Ubuntu 12.04. Since then, when I load up Windows, it will start up, load icons, gadgets etc, but then within a few minutes it will freeze and I have to do a hard reboot. Ubuntu doesn't do this. If I don't hard reboot I get a BSOD.I am pretty sure Windows was not a bad install or anything. I assume it's probably because Windows uses more resources than Ubuntu.Could the damaged hard drive cause a problem like this or can I assume I also have problems with the graphics card or the RAM?Windows freezes in normal mode and normal mode with low resolution. As far as I can tell it does NOT freeze in safe mode, unless I've just not been using it long enough. Does this sound like the sort of problem a driver could cause instead of a hardware problem?

After Around 5 Minutes Of Working After Startup, Windows 7 Completely Freezes

Nov 17, 2012

I've been using my Dell Inspiron 17R for around 2 months ago and it's a fantastic laptop, I mainly use it for videogames, music and movies/TV shows and it has ran flawlessly thus far.

Starting yesterday however, problems began to occur. I could boot the laptop up as per usual and access the Internet, play games, watch movies etc. but after around 5 minutes everything would suddenly become unresponsive. Both my mouse and trackpad wouldn't allow me to click at all, I could however move the mouse around the screen completely fine. The keyboard would also not work - I tried opening the task manager via Ctrl+Alt+Del as well as closing windows with Alt+F4 or trying to shutdown via the Windows key and nothing would work. Instead the cursor would change to the "loading" symbol and it would pretty much just do nothing.

The first time this happened I was browsing the Internet and it just got stuck on "Waiting for Cache" or something to that likeliness, I then noticed the rotating circle that shows a page loading had also halted and was then forced to reboot manually as I couldn't even click the Windows button. Another test I tried was watching a downloaded video - it literally just stopped playing around 4 minutes in. The screen just halted on a single frame even though the pause button hadn't been pressed - trying to click anything didn't work (as usual).

I tried rebooting it multiple times (I was sadly forced to use the power button) and it began to repeat every single time. It would work for a few minutes before completely freezing (minus the ability to pointlessly move the mouse around the screen). Occasionally a window would pop up above the task bar saying that the "Microsoft Windows application has become unresponsive". Sometimes the taskbar would then disappear and the laptop would shut itself down but the end result was always the same.

I found that the same problem did not occur when booting in Safe Mode with Networking, however there was some noticeable slowdown. I downloaded and used many anti-viruses/malware to scan my machine and I'm almost positive that there is nothing of the such on the computer (although in all fairness, the scans were running so slowly I could only make it to about 20% on each before giving up). Other solutions I've tried included:

1. Manually ending high memory usage tasks via the manager
2. Using CCleaner to fix my registry in Safe Mode
3. Left the laptop off overnight in a hope it would just fix itself
4. Unplugged everything from the ports of the laptop
5. Rebooted via the Restart, Shutdown and power buttons

Windows 7 Startup: Wireless Takes Several Minutes To Automatically Connect

Jan 19, 2010

So I still have Windows 7 Ultimate Beta and going to buy Professional soon. But something weird is going on.

I have Thunderbird which checks all my email addresses at startup but it says "cannot connect" so i started to check out my wireless. My wireless says it has "limited access" to my network, says it is "not connected" and when I check the wireless status, it would say that it isn't connected to the IPv4 and IPv6, all while being connected for "00:01:30+"

Then after several minutes, it would just start identifying and connect to the network/internet real fast out of nowhere. My wireless is a Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection

Also, I have a VMware to run Ubuntu which bridges the internet to go online, if this helps. (I cannot uninstall since it took me 4 weeks to get it running)

2 Computers Say "identifying...no Internet Access" On Ethernet For ~15 Minutes After Startup

Sep 11, 2011

Both my laptop and desktop are running Windows 7 64 bit. They both have the same issue through wired ethernet, but not through wireless connections. The reason I do not use wireless is because I only have 2-zero bars in my room. I am at a college campus and they have said the problem is mine and not theirs. The problem is that whenever my computer turns on or awakens from sleep, the ethernet connection is gone and for about 15 minutes it says "Identifying... No Internet Access." The wired connection starts after about 15 minutes, but this is insanely difficult and frustrating to maneuver around since I often don't have 15 minutes to wait.

I have tried various things from forums to no avail. These things include disabling IP 6, updating my ethernet driver from the website, manually setting the IP, and disabing Avast. I do not have any firewall other than Windows Firewall and only have basic programs like Office, Itunes, Firefox.... I am convinced the issue is with the college network, but they have said their test computer was unable to duplicate my problem in my room.

Computer Is Not Slow Other Than Startup

Aug 4, 2011

So I bought a new Hitachi Deskstar 2 SATA-600 2 TB (3,5'') harddrive yesterday. (I had a WD 320 GB harddrive before changing to the 2TB.)And now, my computer takes maybe 4-5 minutes to show the boot screen (the screen that first appears when you boot your computer, often a green, blue or black one). And while the computer boots up, I can hear this ticking noise from the fans. Demonstration (the best I can):and so on. But when it finally boots (when the boot screen comes up) the fan-noise stops, and goes back to the "normal" noise. But my computer is working fine otherways. My computer is not slow other than the startup, and every program or game is working perfectly fine.I think maybe it have something to do with the size of the harddrive? Could there be problems changing from a 320GB to 2TB? [code]

I have 15+ GB free on my main C drive. I thought about clean install but the pain of reinstalling the programs and settings makes me cringe so I would like to try to clean the computer up.What programs do you recommend for the job? I can check for viruses and malware with Security Essentials, are there other programs that could possibly check if I have too much startup programs, and somehow optimize Windows back?

Slow During And After Startup - Svchost.exe?

Oct 27, 2010

For a quick run down of specs, I'm running Home premium 64-bit on an Advent Roma 4001, Intel Dual Core T4400, 4GB RAM and 500GB HD.

It's during the log-in screen that it tends to hang, on both the "Please wait..." and "Welcome" messages it takes between 30 seconds - 2 minutes, but the main problem occurs after logging in. The CPU usage, apart from System Idle Process (of course) is pretty much zero, and the RAM usage is down at about 30MB. Everything seems responsive, however, when I attempt to open a program or process I'm getting incredible lag, the type of unresponsiveness that would tempt you to do a hard reset.

The strange thing is it doesn't actually appear to be unresponsive. The programs all load given time and, for all running slowly for an amount of time, still run. What I have noticed is that svchost.exe seems to kick in at an undefined time and puts the RAM usage up to about 62,000K, with the CPU usage still being very low. When terminating the process, the theme will lose it's transparenecy and revert to a white theme, with processes continuing to run extremely slowly, until a few minutes pass, the windows 7 theme (with transparency) kicks in again and everything loads up immediately. After that, everything's fine - lightning fast.

I've tried chkdsk, messing around with msconfig and various other things to no avail. Am I missing something here? I'm stumped. I think given the problems I've been having aside from this (booting) I'm tempted to put it down to a faulty CPU or Harddrive (the 500GB size supports that probability, I think).
