Slow Catastrophic Failure
Aug 19, 2011
Over the last few weeks, this computer has become more and more problematic. Just to get it out of the way, I can, with 99.9% certainty, rule out viruses or malware, as I'm extremely careful and use Malwarebytes, AVG, and Firefox with Noscript. My computer has been virus-free for years. Every scan (the above two, Spybot, Avira, Ad-Aware, Bazooka, HijackThis - all scans have always been clean for years). Keep in mind that this computer was functioning flawlessly up until this week. This hardware setup is from 2008 and I am using the same Windows 7 disc that I installed on it three years ago. This is the second format and re-installation since I built the computer. No problems the last time, which was about a year ago.

Upon Start up I have no internet access. No drivers are being recognized (graphics, motherboard, CD/DVD driver) and when trying to perform a system restore (to any point) I get a "catastrophic failure".Eventually I will get a BSOD with Memory Management as its title.I'm unable to start up in "Safe Mode" when restarting, it wont let me highlight anything but " Start Windows Normally"

I have an Acer Aspire timeline computer I bought 2 years ago. This computer advertised great battery life, internal cooling, and all sorts of other cool things....unfortunately, it was all a lie. But enough about that, As of like 3 days ago, I noticed my computer would respond slowly and take forever to complete a shutdown. I thought nothing of it until I decided to scan it usingSuperAntiSpyware. It came back with 40 tracking cookies, which I deleted. Upon rebooting my computer, I noticed it was still running slowly. So I decided a system restore would be niceI tried the first availible restore date. That apparently failed. Then I tried several others, with no success. I kept getting error codes telling me that the system restore failed to extract the file. It said the disk failiure might have been caused by bad sectors....I have no idea what that means. Ive tried multiple restore dates, they all come back with the same message.
I do not have Norton on my computer ( I read this was part of the problem in many other machines with the same restore error, but just to make it clear, that is not part of the problem with my computer). I can only use my computer in safe mode, because the regular boot mode is wayy too slow and laggy. Also I have plenty space on my computer so it couldnt possibly be slowing down because its getting full or something.

I have been using my HP Pavilion g6 laptop for around a year now, and so far it has been smooth sailing. However, around a day or two ago, my computer suddenly became unbearably slow on normal mode. I would try to open google chrome and it would freeze up my computer, and even opening the start menu took an incredible amount of time. This was a sudden onset of slowness and I cannot remember if I installed any updates that may have caused this. Using even safe mode, opening the uninstall part of control panel would take ages. I have tried many things to fix this:Used SFC/scannow, caused a crash.
Used disk check on safe mode, says that I need to defrag 1% of the disk. However, It also says there is a SMART check failure. I am quite confused about this because when I looked again it said that the smart status was "good". (HP support center) Deleted temporary files Checked task manager to see if there was any processes that were taking up too much memory, it looks good normally. However, on normal mode whenever I would open chrome the CPU would spike to 60%.
Specs are:
AMD A6-3400M APU with Radeon graphics.
6gigs of RAM

I bought this Fujitsu laptop for less than a year. Its only for my school work. It takes forever to bootup, startup and it sometime hangs when I open up a program or typing. For the bootup, it takes very long time on the window logo, after that the black screen, followed by the welcome page with the loading cursor. Each of this process take a long time. For startup, its not so long but its still quite lag. For the opening up of program and typing, everytime I open up my visual studio, it will take a long time to show up and even if it showed up, it will be "not responding".So I will have to open it a second time before I can start using itWhen I am typing my codes, it will randomly hang and show that the program is not responding. I am still able to move my cursor though.

After having set up XP in virtualisation mode and had it working more or less satisfactorily. Even got a USB sound card working. I find today that after getting into it, a major programme would not launch.
I launched a second one, which ran but which locked up and could not be stopped.
Exit XP. Reboot the Windows 7 machine. Start XP, get error "Terminal connection is busy processing another connect operation" followed after a time by the login screen.
Enter password and get the same error.
One time I did get into XP, but every app lauched gave error "App failed to init as the window station is shutting down". I noticed that the locked-up app from the first session was still on the taskbar and still locked up and unable to be stopped.

I have a problem, when I try to run a certain program it has an error, that prjChameleon.ocx or one of its dependencies are missing.. So I downloaded prjChameleon.ocx and put it in my System32 folder, but still no luck, says it will not work.. Further studying I found out that I needed to register it.. So I went to Start>Run> regsvr32 C:WindowsSystem32prjChameleon.ocx

I recently received a virus that did a plethora of things and one of them was trying to delete system 32. To counter this I tried to reset my comp to a previous date. After pushing it to the farthest date and still dealing it I decided to reset to factory default without backing up any files. Everything goes great but when it starts installing the service and the OS it says the installation can not continue and the comp must be restarted. My comp is a HP TouchSmart 600 PC running Windows 7 Premium 64-bit. I have disconnected everything from it and tried running it on safe mode but I do not know how to restart it without pressing the power button but that just ends everything.

ISSUE: GRMCULXFRER_EN_DVD FAILED ON 64 BIT MACHINE USING DVDISO extracted on 64 bit machine burnt at 1X speed (No Joy) ISO extracted on 32 bit machine burnt at 1X speed (No Joy) Boot priority set as CD/DVD 1 Using ISO MAGIC and burning on Memorex DVD Media at 1X speed See system Specs Failure point is missing CD/DVD driver BD ROM is Lite-On HD 101 Original install is OS 7 RC-1 7100 build Attempting complete install Attempted DVD and Virtual Drive w/Virtual_Clone Narrative:
I attempted to install the latest RTM release. I assumed that this would be easy as RC-1 was a breeze. Installing RC-1 I used the ISO extract to DVD at Slow Speed, did the same procedure here.
In BIOS I made the boot priority the CD/DVD drive as primary.
I inserted my media into the BD drive and saw the prompt: " Touch any Key to boot fromCD". Did that. The Media began to initialise but it was extremely slow, 3-4 minutes. The screen with company mast and working bars took a few minutes. After that the wallpaper came up with a mouse pointer. I was able to move the mouse around and after another few minutes I saw the Logo screen with Language and keyboard US.
The Windows Install Prompt was next and I executed the install. After a few more minutes I see the "SET UP STARTING". After a few more minutes I get a new screen w/"Load Driver".Required driver for CD/DVD is missing.
The installer scanned the media disc but there was no driver to be found.
I uploaded 2 images for everyone to see.
Is any forum member here have a work around?
I attempted to install my drivers from my sys_32 folders from a thumb drive but no joy.
Since RC-7 was such a snap I assumed this install would be as easy also.

I did run into a small surprise on an older system that required me to download the audio drivers from MS update. The audiochip is made by VIA.
WMP12 doesn't play the audio when viewing a DVD movie, but when I use Media Center, then everything works.
Any advice on how to reinstall/enable the needed audio codec into WMP12 ?
I tried to disable/enable WMP12, but this didn't solve it, neither does changing the settings for filetypes etc connected to WMP.

I've got a windows 7 machine connected to the internet through a gentoo linux firewall/router/proxy.
I used to have this problem a while ago on windows xp but worked around it with dns hacks on my linux box. This time I want to find the actual cause.
As of today, if I go to IMDB, most of the CSS files fail to load. Trying to get to the url directly, firefox and chrome both tell me that the IMDB cdn server can't be found. Running nslookup from the windows 7 machine managed to resolve the hostname perfectly. It also works flawlessly from the linux box.
I have transparent interception on port 80, going to a squid proxy which should perform all the DNS queries. It seems that browsers (firefox and chrome...untesed with others) still seem to be trying to perform DNS lookups themselves and for some reason, fail for certain addresses.

It failed to install throwing a fairly generic code "file not found".I have been doing some searches and the problem/s with such are plenteous. the various methods i've seen have spotty success, and too often end with "why don't you nuke the drive and reinstall 7".

my PC is refusing to start up. It happened yesterday after the power had flickered, I turned off my computer because the battery it was hooked up to was yelling at me (due to the power flicker). On the startup, my PC just hangs after "Verifying DMI Pool Data", and then gives me the "DISKBOOT FAILURE, PLEASE INSERT DISC AND PRESS ENTER" to continue shenanigans.
I've cleaned out my computer and have tried unplugging my two external hard-drives, as well as going into the BIOS and making sure the boot order was correct. When I insert a Windows boot disc, it refuses to 'repair' my system because it says there's no specified OS to repair... I thought the problem was that it wasn't recognizing my actual hard-drive, but that doesn't seem to be the case, (I forgot how I got to it but,) it recognized that I had 183/500 GB of space left (as well as being able to view certain files.
I recently was able to get into DOS, where it's listing my main drive as "X:windows\system32". Could this be the problem? If so, how did it reassign it to "X: and why did it do that?!

Running Windows 7 Home Premium. For three days now I have seen nothing but the error Boot Disk Failure when trying to boot up.. I can overcome it by putting the IOS 7 disk in the DVD CD drive and let it boot so that I can then run the repair on the computer. I borrowed an OS 7 install disk and the same thing happens. After a series of checking the system I am informed that nothing wrong was found. If I leave the disk in the drive, even through rebooting, the machine runs just fine. If I take the disk out of the drive, I am dead in the water until I put it back in the drive, reboot and let the tests start over again and all is fine.

I turned the laptop off by holding the power on button depressed for as long as it took to power down.I have done this many times before. This time the laptop will not start windows after power up. Win 7 offers 2 options, normal or startup repair. Both appear to run but stay on permanently and neither will start windows. Tried booting using the repair disk and laptop will not boot from CD. CD spins initially but without booting. Only thing I can see that is not normal is that after several seconds trying to boot the Disk led remains permanently on, at least to my eyes.I have removed the battery, powered up without the battery, tried different repair CD all to no avail.
