When I run SFC /SCANNOW to check system files regedit takes me to C:Windowssystem32> This check always completes successfully. No Problems.
System File Checker (sfc) has a few parameters that you can use when runing sfc:
Parameters
/scannow : Scans all protected system files immediately.
/scanonce : Scans all protected system files once.
/scanboot : Scans all protected system files every time the computer is restarted.
/revert : Returns the scan to its default operation.
/purgecache : Purges the Windows File Protection file cache and scans all protected system files immediately.
/cachesize=x : Sets the size, in MB, of the Windows File Protection file cache.
/? : Displays help at the command prompt.
What's the difference between the first two, /scannow and /scanonce?Does /scanonce wait until you reboot and then run one time? And while I'm asking about sfc, where is the "Windows File Protection file cache"?

Searching for in the logs turns up some cases of annot verify component files for Microsoft-Windows-Security-Kerberoarch for turns up nothing. Not sure what to do now. My computer is a Dell XPS 15 Z

The problem started when I had three updates that would not install at shutdown. I tried to run check disk and system file checker which neither would run initiallyCheck disk runs now and says there are no problems. SFC says "Window Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." As for Windows update, I have tried deleting the temp update files located atC:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore and \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download. I have also tried to Resource readiness tool as well as Microsoft Fix It for windows update. The fix it tool says it finds errors and fixes them but the problem is not fixed. It shows up every time I run the tool. Since deleting the temp files, windows update just says "Windows could not search for new updates" with and error code of 80070002.I suspected a virus at first but was unable to find anything with a full scan of AVG and Malware Bytes. Guess that doesn't mean there is not one.

View 9 Replies View Relatedthe tip to run SFC -- I'm not sure where the 'command prompt' is now in Windows 7.
What I did was search for sfc, right click, then run as administrator.
It appears something is running, but no window opened to ask or tell me anything. I checked Task Mgr and Resource Monitor and can't find anything resembling SFC, but there is activity even tho' I'm not doing anything else. The hard drive light is also flickering about once per second. What should I expect? Do I just wait patiently? How can I confirm SFC is running and fixing any errors?
I had a bsod randomly and decided to run a /sfc scannow. It found 1(2?) problem files

I was wondering if someone could upload the file so I could try that, dont want to do a full repair install for one file.there's 2 files with the name iassdo.dll.mui, the problem ones are the 6kb not the 45kb file.

So I downloaded a firmware for my Canon. I was suppose to drag it to desktop. It was a exe file, then I choose to open it with winrar. This action messed up my whole computer. Every exe file has a little icon of winrar and can't open and said corrupted. Some will open but then ask what program to open and I have to chose the icon. Bottom line, I can't even open system restore. Click on system restore and it asked me what program to open. Can't even open command prompt. It ask for what program to open.

Example command:
adb shell getprop ro.product.brand
That command outputs the brand of the device e.g. samsung. I want to capture that without displaying it into a variable that will be used later on in the script. I have the 3 adb files coped over to the scripts location so that it will run natively.
Is there any programmatic way within a BATch file of determining whether it has been started from an elevated command prompt (run as Administrator) or a normal command prompt? I note the difference between the Current Directory at start of the BATch file, but wonder if there is a better way. When in elevated mode I don't get a UAC prompt when using DISKPART. The UAC prompt only happens when running it in a normal command prompt window.
Are you aware of any command which simultaneously would give a different errorlevel when executed in an elevated command prompt than in a normal command prompt, and not produce a UAC prompt in normal mode? If this is the case, unless I can find something to distinguish between elevated command prompts and normal command prompts, then I will have to try the %cd% variable at the start of BATch files, to see whether it is consistent even across user modifications of the command prompt shortcut's Target Directory...

View 9 Replies View RelatedI work at a school as Computer Applications Technology teacher. The students bring homework to school on their flashdrives, and though we have good antivirus software at school, the viruses on their home PC's will often do considerable damage to the data on their flashdrives. One of the most common problems we have is some virus that sets the "system" attribute on all folders, effectively hiding them, and then creating shortcuts named after those folders, inviting people to double-click them, thereby effectively installing the virus locally (though our antivirus blocks it). So the problem is that those folders (with their homework) can only be revealed by going into "Folder Options" and selecting "Show hidden files and folders" and removing the option to "Hide protected operating system files". This is a big breach in security. So I usually have to change those settings, run the Attrib command in the command line to change all the folders, and then re-enable the settings. All of this takes up valuable time. What I would like to know is, is there a way to give the attrib command once, thereby changing the attributes on all folders on a specific flashdrive? I played around with the /S /D and *.* settings, but couldn't accomplish anything.

I have just run the sfc /scannow command, just to see what the result would be.
If you've ported Windows Mail over from Vista like I have, then the scannow command returns the Windows Mail folders back to the default installation settings.
Windows Mail will no longer run.
I had to boot into Vista and copy the program files folder from Vista to Win 7 to re enable Windows Mail. The Windows Mail program store in app data remains unchanged.
