Can't Extend Partition C Into Unallocated Space On Separate Internal Disk?
Jan 28, 2013I read up a bit on this on other threads but none of them are exactly specific to my issue.I need to expand my C partition by utilizing the free unallocated space on disk D (a separate disk) that I just made by deleting the only partition on there.I guess this is not possible through windows disk management tools but I didn't want to start downloading any 3rd party software for this before I got some guidance from here. lease take a look at the following screen and let me know if using the 238.38GB of unused (unallocated space) I can extend the C partition without having to delete that partition, having to backup the files on it or making images. I already backed up everything I had on the D partition and then went ahead and deleted it through the computer management tool.

Nov 11, 2012One day, seemingly at random (I know that it obviously was not), my steam client stopped working, so doing a virus scan malwarebytes returned a positive. So I removed it, but having done this I thought my computer was fine, but when I opened Word 2010 I got the error "There is not enough memory or disk space to run Word" I have 281 Gb of free hard drive space and 8 Gb of RAM. I even used the installation CD and used "repair" which didn't work. I also tried clearing the Temp folder, but the problem persists

Oct 6, 2012i am having a problem with my memory getting tied up / used up and not being able to access it again until i reboot.
machine: dell xps studio 8100
os: win 7,
processor: i7 2.8
ram: 16gb (max it will take)
video: ati radeon 5700 (running 3 monitors)
versions: as far as i know i am running current versions of everything, including video drivers, flash, chrome, etc. (i've tried running chrome with both the build in version of flash and the system version -haven't seen a difference)
browser: i nearly exclusively run chrome / canary with auto-updates so am at the latest builds.what seems to cause me to use up / run out of memory is after i play videos (Internet, netflix, etc.), the memory seems to get used, but is not returned to the system, even if the browser is closed and re-opened.right now for example things are working fine; i rebooted my system a couple hours ago (but have not played any videos). i have adobe lightroom running, picasa, chrome and canary (currently 4 web browser windows open with 52 tabs open). task manager currently shows me using 8.20gb of ram, that seems pretty reasonable to me.
normally my system will keep running properly (if a program is closed, memory is freed up) right up until i start to play any videos (Internet, netflix, etc.) then it will start using up more memory. (of course i expect it to use more memory during playback) however, even if i restart the browser, the memory does not get freed back up. for example, just prior to the reboot, with everything closed, i was using right around 8gb of ram. once i rebooted, i was using 1.something gb of ram prior to opening any programs.however, once i start playing some videos, i never seem to be able to get my ram freed back up again unless i reboot the whole system. this is not just a problem with how much memory the system shows as being available, i frequently actually run out of memory. (task manager will show me as using around 15gb and then everything starts swapping out like crazy).
2 OS In 2 Separate Hdd?
Jul 11, 2012I have 2 hard drives, my PC is booting from Windows 7 (main HDD_1 80GB only). Other HDD_2 having Window Server 2003 (additional 500GB). Following are the list of queries.
1) Can I access Winserver2003 drive from, Window 7?
2) Is it possible to shift some of data from Window7 to Winserver2003 HDD because my main HDD (which is having Window 7) is running short of space.
Chkdsk High Memory Usage / Memory Leak?
Jun 1, 2009I find that if I run chkdsk and watch the memory usage in task manager it jumps by about 50MB every 2 seconds or so until it either finishes or hits around 3.2GB at which point my physical memory shows 99% used (I'm running 4GB), and the system of course slows to a crawl.f you just run a quick chkdsk on your boot drive you may not notice it, but try running something longer like chkdsk /r on a flash drive or chkdsk /f on a bigger internal drive (but not your OS drive as this would require a reboot) and watch the memory usage climb. I have duplicated this on both systems I have running Windows 7. My XP machine (checking the same USB flash drive) uses a much more normal amount of memory for chkdsk (20 - 30 MB).

Aug 5, 2010Have two HDD, one with Windows 7 professional 1TB SATA and other older win XP sp3 160gb SATA. To keep working environment separate, I use one HDD at a time, disconnecting other HDD. It used to work fine except 2 days back, when I had shut down winXP 160GB HDD with hibernation and after detaching that sata cord and reconnecting 1 TB sata cord, there was a major startup failure. With Windows 7 DVD RE, after opening system recovery dialogue box, no options were working including startup repair, system image recovery and system restore. In command prompt, c drive could not be detected. However, after bootrec.exe/fixmbr win 7 started but is a bit slower.How to avoid this problem? Does hibernation of one HDD interferes with startup of other HDD even though no RAM changes take place?. Does frequent change of HDD like this cause hardware/software damage?Specs - Core 2 duo 1.83ghz, 946gzis mb, 2gb RAM, ATI radeon 4850 512mb, VIP 600w smps.

Increased Memory Usage With Added Memory?
Nov 5, 2011I just built a new computer and started with 8GB of memory. A few weeks down the line I purchased another set of the same memory because it was on such a good deal and had great reviews (newegg). It also was working well for me, so I figured maybe more could be better.
I haven't noticed any decrease/increase in system performance except Alt-Tabbing has recently got slower. Also, Windows 7 was sitting tight on 1.3gb to 2gb of memory usage prior to the extra 8 (now 16) being added. Even when gaming, it went up to like 3gb. Now that I've added the extra it's going up to 4.5gb or better. Also, is it possible to speed up my alt-tabbing? It seems to have a good 3-4 second pause in it instead of being immediate like it was.
Computer specs:
Windows 7 HP 64-bit
gSkill 16gb 1866 memory (BIOS shows it at 1866, too)
Intel i5-2500k Sandy Bridge (OC'd 4.6 with factory Overclock presets)

Nov 30, 2011have a 1TB drive partitioned into two 500GB partitions. One has everything on it, the other is a backup of the other partition (I know, a horrible idea, but I had no alternative). How To Separate Program Files
Dec 9, 2009I was wondering how to for example, make a program work, while it is using its core files on another file.
Example: I have a Fast HD with limited space, and i have a slow HD with lots of space.
Now, i have a program that in its folder has Core file, Videos file and .exe
If i remove one of them, it stops working. I want only core file to be on the fast HD while i want the other files running at the slow HD. How do i do that?
Long story short : I want a program to run with its files running on separate HDs.
I have many purposes to do that, since i have programs, games that i want to run faster, and mainly games have files like Videos, etc that doesn't need to be on a fast HD.

I've added the folder to the library list for both recorded tv and videos but none of the shows appear. I don't really want to add them to the movies area (where my movies do show up) since I prefer keeping them separate. Can I create another folder for these tv shows or is there a way to make them appear in the recorded tv folder?

May 19, 2010I have 5 hard drives in my system and I have installed windows 7 x64 on 2 separate drives and done this within windows. However a few times it booted okay but then started hanging on the post where it states verifying DMI pool data. Subsequently I tried everything to repair as I thought that the MBR was probably corrupted.
I have installed windows separately now on each drive by disconnecting all drives except the one that I am installing and then shut that down, disconnected it and connected the next and installed a fresh copy there to.
I am concerned that windows will corrupt the MBR again when I connect the drives one by one. I am not overly optimistic about windows boot manager and its reliability.
Why Is Separate 100 MB System Bootmanager Partition Not Always Necessary
Apr 13, 2011As far as I know Win7 introduces a new Bootmanager system.At old WinXP times the bootmanager was put into the first bootable partition on the first hard disc.This partition could contain the actual Windows XP itself in addition.From Win7 times on Bootmanager should be installed in a separate (only 100 MB small) additional primary partition.When booting the system at first this Bootmanager "meta" partition is called which in turn calls the actual Windows 7 OS partition.Ok, currently I prepared three partition on my hard disc:
- 40 GB for Win7
- 100 MB for Bootmanager
- 500 GB for data
When I installed now recently 64bit Win 7 Pro everything was put on the first 40 GB partition.The installation procedure did not ask where to put the Bootmanager. Where is it? Is Bootmanager only created/established when a SECOND OS is installed on the hard disc?
