Restoring Computer HDD To Out Of Box State?

Jul 11, 2012

I have a question about restoring my hard drive. Recently, i bought a laptop from the pawn shop. I have been using the laptop for a couple of weeks and have some unimportant programs and files on it. Factory my hard drive is 222.22 Gb, but currently it's space is 179.8 GB. Since, i bought the laptop from the pawn shop, i did not get any windows disc. I'm afraid that if i restore to out-of-box-state that i wont be able to have windows 7 anymore and would be left with a laptop paper weight. i have made a repair disc but i did not make an restore disc. Should, i create this recovery disc before restoring? Also, is there anything else that, i should do before going threw with the Factory Restore?

My computer (details below) is new and after using it for two weeks a message appeared on the screen last night asking me if I would like to create a set of DVD discs that could be used to restore it to factory state if needed. It cautioned that this set could only be made once. Since I was busy at the time I closed the message.

Restoring Windows 7 Onto New Computer

Oct 27, 2012

I am not new to Windows 7 at all, and I know quite a bit but I have never came across the problem that I am faced with.My old computers motherboard failed and quit on me, causing the computer not to boot or even turn on. So I got a new one. My question: What and how is the easiest way for me to restore my Windows 7 onto my new computer (all new hardware), without loosing any system settings, programs, files ect. I dont have a backup point of the old Windows 7. All I have is the HD with Windows 7 on it. (However I have a backup of all of the important files.) Searching around a little on my own I could not find anything on how to restore Windows 7 without making a restore point in the past.

Restoring Windows 7 On A Used Computer Without Disks?

Sep 19, 2011

So, I recently bought a used computer from CL. The machine is a Dell Laptop that originally had Windows Vista installed on it. The original owner upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise and had a bunch of new software installed on the machine. (FL Studio, Photoshop, etc.)I was able to use the computer successfully for the first day until I installed iTunes. Something went wrong, and now when I boot up in normal mode Windows will freeze as soon as i try to open anything. I can open the Start menu, but anything past that will cause a freeze. The computer works fine in all Safe ModesSo, what I would like to do is restore Windows 7 to it's original configurations and still be able to keep all those great programs already installed. However, I do not any of the Windows 7 media that was used for the upgrade. What can I do? Will creating a system image work, or will I end up just copying the freeze problem if I do that?

Restoring A Computer To Factory Settings?

Nov 1, 2012

I'm certain that this has been answered before but I am aware that for certain computers it can be quite different. My question is how do I restore my computer to factory settings? I have a Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H, I've looked all over the manual and still can not figure out exactly how. I always try to access my BIOS but there seems to be no recovery management on it. I have my Win7 reinstallation disc and Gigabyte Drivers installation disc if that helps.I'll reinstall windows if I have to, but only if it'll reset everything. I have a 60GB Boot Drive and a 1TB hard drive.

How To Backup System State Only

Sep 13, 2011

i have Windows 7 (64) preinstalled on an Acer Aspire notebook. I've been looking high and low for a way to backup just my system state, the way I used to be able do in Windows XP. There was even a guided tutorial to help you do it on the MS web site. The resultant file was much smaller than a partition backup and was often more useful for disaster recovery than the simple restore point recovery. It only took a few minutes to create. It seems NTBackup is gone. Is there any way to do what ntbackup used to do?

The issue is, when it gets to DOS after restart to finish moving os, at some point while it is moving, I get error message "Some Error occurred: Bad parameter of function". At the same time, at the top right corner it says Succeeded. When I try to boot from SSD I get strange error window saying "Windows failed to start 0xC0000034 Unexpected error.

Hover State Of Desktop Icons

I've searched high and low for an answer on Google, but can't seem to find one. I don't think there's anything you can do about it, but here it goes.So on your XP desktop, when you hover over your desktop icons with your mouse, they don't light up. On 7, when you mouseover your desktop icons, a light blue box shows up around the icons indicating that you're over it.How on this huge planet of ours do you disable that hover effect?

Defragging Solid State Drives?

Jan 17, 2012

This isn't recommended, I know. But would it serve any purpose at all? As far as I understand the matter, aside from the wear and tear issue, whether an SDD is 0% fragmented or 100% fragmented makes no difference to the performance, due to the way the information is read from the disc. Is that so?I run MS Flight Simulator from an SDD (my O/S is on another SDD too) and I am starting to get some performance issues. Some have recommended I defrag the disc - when I analyse it, it shows 100% fragmentation, but if what I wrote above is true, it wouldn't make any difference. Right??

Lots Of Connections In Close_wait State?

May 22, 2011

I have just discovered I have a lot of connections in close_wait state, I mean a lot.resource monitor shows a graph with a max value of 500 about 4/5 full so approx 400.netstat -n which doesnt show all of them as it scrolls off shows the vast majority are close_wait.the process name as shown in resource monitor is iexplore.exe, so this doesnt appear to be a generic problem for every connection but rather limited to IE, I am running IE9. Firefox also running on system isnt showing the same issue, as well as non browser apps such as securecrt and ftp client.close_wait as understand it is supposed to mean the server has yet to close the connection. But this is where my investigation ends. I only found some misleading and wrong info on the net linking it to tcptimedwaitdelay (actually related to time_wait), and a network sharing bug which this isnt it as its from web browsing.I dont appear to be exhibiting issues because of this and only discovered the issue by chance when I decided to check something with netstat. However it clearly isnt a healthy thing to have all these connections in the tcp buffers.

Windows 7 Not Detecting Solid State Drive

Apr 6, 2011

I recently bought a SSD (Solid State Drive) it is a Samsung 64GB. My computer is an Asus with an i5 Processor.

Anyway I know the SSD works fine because currently I have Ubuntu downloaded on it, running just fine. For some reason however, Windows 7 is not detecting my drive. Under my computer, or upon booting from a disk, it will not detect it. The reason I am wanting to detect it, is because I would like to backup windows 7 onto my SSD and boot from there.
