View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to install windows 8 on my windows 7 PC and the installation froze at 80%. Upon restart my computer could no longer boot into windows and therefore i had no choice but to wipe it. I ordered a windows 8 backup dvd and booting from this can get me no further then the windows logo and "juggling balls" loading screen before the screen goes black (backlight still on) the Toshiba recovery doesn't work either, asking me what language I want to proceed in and then also black screening me. How can i install windows and get it running again?
P.S. when i turn it on with no disk in it says "please insert bootable media" etc.
I'm still trying to get a hang of how UEFI works. I did take a look at it when I went to install my OS (And again when i got a SSD), but I couldn't make heads or tails of it and used BIOS.
does UEFI make a drastic difference over BIOS, and can I convert without having to do a complete wipe and install? or how would go about switching to EFI, or is it worth it?
I've decided that I would like to reinstall Windows 7 on my computer. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, and I am currently running Windows Home Premium, 64 bit, which came with the computer, already installed when I bought it.However, since my computer came with Windows already installed, it did not come with an Windows 7 installation disk. Is there any way around this? Can I download an .iso for the CD somewhere or something?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a retail copy of Windows 7 Upgrade and installed it about a year ago. It detected my Vista installation but I reformatted and did a clean install. It activated no problem.I now want to wipe my Hard drive and start fresh...but I have an important question. Will my upgrade license key allow me to reinstall Windows 7 without putting Vista back on the computer first? I want to do a clean install. I understand that Upgrade keys need to "see" a previous Windows version in the setup program before you re-format the drive. But, this is the second install of Win7; wouldn't the setup detect that I have an installed copy of Windows 7 before I format?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got some bad malware and removed it with a complete re-install of windows 7. I deleted all partitions and re-installed Windows 7 from that point. I went to the Gateway website and got all of the drivers for the equipment on the computer and it still runs painfully slow. I've run CCcleaner several times, done DSKCHK (because I suspected my hard drive might be faulty) and everything says I have no problems.

Do I really need to uninstall and reinstall windows on my computer to get rid of spyware and malware?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 on my laptop and am having multiple problems. The HDD is formatted completely empty.
1. When attempting to use the Reinstallation DVD from Dell, the DVD boots and the progress bar moves that says "Windows is loading files," then the computer restarts and it is stuck in an infinite loop.
2. When attempting to use a copy of Windows 7 on a USB drive, the drive boots up until you see the cursor to begin the reinstallation process, then the computer restarts and it is stuck in an infinite loop.
3. When attempting to use a Windows XP DVD, it starts the setup process, and then I get error: STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF78D2524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)
I have been able to boot command line Linux distros (haven't tried any graphical distros) without any problems. Dell instructed me to run diagnostics on everything, and everything passed, so it doesn't seem like there are any apparent hardware issues. I tried pulling the battery and just using the power cord and also removing one of the sticks of RAM and attempting installation, but I have the same problems.

My computer won't startup in normal or safe mode and I was told my windows 7 may be corrupt. I am trying to reinstall it, but I'm not sure how. I place the disc in the drive and rebooted the computer but it didn't work. The system repairs won't work, nor will system restore. Is there a command prompt or anything?

I removed Internet Explorer 9 after having some problems with it here on this 64 bit machine. Now Firefox has upgraded to version 5 and is no longer compatible with my Dishnetwork Slingplayer. This means I can't watch my Dish programming on the road.
Anyway if I try to reload IE9 it says it can't install because a newer version is already loaded. It does not appear on the program list under "add or remove programs"!
I have the google search engine redirect virus and am crossing my fingers that a solution can be found as i posted the appropriate logs inteh appropriate forum. However, based on the results from other members with the same problem, I am not too confident. So I guess my next option is to reinstall my Windows 7 pro, but i don't have the recovery disk ( I have a pavilion dv8 Hewlett packard). So do i go to the store and buy Windows 7 and reinstall it? One of my drives is called recovery, but i don't know what is in it. there is a folder called recovery, but when I click it, it gives me a warning that my partitions will be formatted. no files.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just spent the last half day fixing a laptop, had to buy a new hard drive and reinstall the OS from recovery discs. (Win 7 64 bit, on Satellite Toshiba) I just noticed that I did not install it with a partition for the OS, Is this going to be a big problem at some point? I had checked off "Factory Settings" when installing, I just assumed that it would have installed with a partition. Before I go any further with this laptop I would like to have some input please. I just spent the last 3 hours installing updates and finally SP1.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer was blue screening, freezing, locking up, etc so I took it to a repair shop and to make sure all the hardware was ok. All the tests passed but the problems were still continuing. They eventually decided to reinstall my OS which is Windows 7 and everything's been working fine except my computer is a lot slower and frequently feels laggy where they mouse would freeze up for a few seconds or move slowly across the screen. I have already tried cleaning out my registry with CCleaner and tried defragmenting but to no avail. I was wondering if there is another way to solve my computer lag problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and recently had a system crash. I got a blue screen stating ''hard error'' and my system was promptly restarted. Startup repair tried to do his things but it failed(and did an endless loop in trying to do so). I couldn't boot in safe mode, I couldn't do anything. I resorted to reinstalling Windows 7 using my CD. I took the custom installation rather than the upgrade because the upgrade would essentially lead to the endless startup repair loot. Now, after everything was done, it's said my old Windows is still on the computer under the file name ''Windows old'', I checked and it is indeed there. Wouldn't there be a way to reinstall Windows old? I really don't want to be forced to reinstall all my drivers and updates.
