Random Focusing Out Of Windows
Jan 14, 2013
I recently started having a problem with my PC. It would randomly put focus on a window that I am not currently using. An example is if I have my browser out and I am playing a video on a seperate video player, the video would go out of full screen mode into maximized screen (minimize, exit button on the top right but still takes the full screen) and then it would bring up the browser as if I had clicked it on the taskbar. This problem is trivial and I've dealt with it for several months but I need to rename a significant amount of files for work organization and it is now driving me insane. 8/10 times in the middle of renaming a file, it would just cut out of it, as if I clicked elsewhere. I've tried closing every other window and focus on one window, but it still happens with NO other windows open. I've literally gone on task manager and ended the process of every non-essential program and it still happens.

Since Windows 7, I've noticed that all of my timed system events configured to pop up reminders or Microsoft Office Calendar events always pop up in the background.
Usually, I have sound on, so I can here the Windows notice, but not always. Also, I have dual screens that I keep pretty busy!
Is there a way I can tell Windows 7 that I want these dialog boxes to pop up in the front like they did way back in the WinXP day?

I would like to prevent Explorer from scrolling a folder's contents to focus on a selected file or folder. Like, if I have a folder open with quite a few files in it and the file I want to double click to open is on the third row I'll go to double click but with the first click Explorer has scrolled along and the second click lands on a completely different file.

I'm using a fresh install of Win 7 home premium on a custom computer. When I'm using programs, it seems like windows will lose focus on the window I'm currently using, or, the taskbar wont work (read, I can't click on it), Or, the minimize, maximize and close buttons on my windows will not work. All of these problems seem somewhat related, ive attempted regedit and rebooting.

Been having some crashes. At first they occurred on start up. Claiming the computer wasn't properly shut down. Now today, the other crashes started, with the first happening out of nowhere, the second happening upon starting a video game. I've been without crashes for a while now, only having used my browser(Opera) and copying some files to an external hard drive. As well as the SF tool.I only have 2 dump files available. SF tool file should be in attachments, unless I made a mistake somewhere

I reformatted my computer multiple times, yet my computer seems to BSOD randomly. What happenes is that everything becomes unresponsive; cant alt+tab, cant ctrl+alt+del etc etc. everything freezes randomly... then boom, BSOD. its happened twice, with no apparent pattern. And then, when it restarts, it tries booting but then it goes into the boot selection screen and my SSD is nowhere to be found. I have to power off then power on again for it to boot up and log in.

I dont know if this is the right area or not, as i just joined, but it seems to be the best place. I recently bought a new computer, and now it will randomly shut down. Its also making loud pitch noises. That just started happening. I called tech support and they told me it was probably just the power supply. Before I send it in though, i want to make sure that is what is wrong. I dont know all to put on here.

A couple weeks ago I started having random BSOD and restarts, I have researched several different solutions to no avail. At one point, I thought the problem was solved after restoring a restore point, however, the dreaded BSOD is back after a couple of days.
- Restored the earliest restore point
- Ran chkdsk with no errors
- Ran full scan AV (just in case) using MSSE.
- Updated all Windows and drivers updates.
I believe this is related to a driver issue, however, I'm not sure which one.Attached is both the BSOD App and System Health data.
Basic specs:
- Windows 7 x64
- Original Install
- OEM
- System age: 6 months
- OS install age: 6 months (not reinstalled)

Whenever I am scrolling or just typing inside a MS-Word-2010 or PDF document, it's like someone is clicking with the mouse outside the window. The window menu is greyed out, and the blinking mouse cursor disappears. In order to continue scrolling or typing, I have to click back on that window.Sometimes it happens even while I'm typing, then I discover that some of my typing doesn't appear in the document and I have to click on the document again in order to bring back the mouse cursor into the document I use a wireless mouse but it also happens when I turn it off and use my laptop's touchpad 2 days ago I installed a Java update and NET framework updates.

Five days ago I clean installed 64-bit Win7 Home Premium on a new HD when the previous HD crashed & burned on my Dell i7-920 (12GB RAM) that was running Vista Home. Although Win7 is fast, it's also freezing A LOT, seemingly at random times.Sometimes early after bootup, sometimes hours in; there's no consistency other than to say that the system is untrustworthy (and that I must save OFTEN). What I've found on the web seems to point to driver issues (so what else is new?), but even that isn't definitive. Some have posted that they've gone through and reinstalled all of their known drivers, and their machines STILL freeze.

I recently bought an Alienware m17x and it keeps shutting down randomly. I tried reinstalling a fresh version of windows just to be sure and reupdating all of the drivers to match my computer's needs. (via windows update and Driver Genius)It never shuts down randomly in safe mode though, so it tells me: (Correct me if I'm wrong)
1) It's not one of the absolutely critical files causing it, since the files/drivers work without shutting down in safe mode
2) It's not an overheating problem since it doesn't shut down randomly in safe mode
3) Probably not a problem with the battery, or else it would shut down in safe mode too. (Right?)
I still have a 1 year warrenty with Alienware/Dell but I'd rather not wait several weeks (send/receive, fix, send back which takes a while b/c shipping takes atleast a week each way) for them to receive it, fix it, and send it back. (I'd prefer to use that as a last resort because I use/need my computer daily)Dell does have a BIOS flasher for Alienware m17x which I have not tried yet?
System info/specs:
-- Alienware M17x R3 Laptop
-- Blu-ray Disc (BD) Combo (Reads BD and Writes to DVD/CD)

I'm searching the web, listening to music, or playing some games on my computer, at some point when I click on my desktop it will give me the waiting mouse cursor. Then I cannot click into the start button on the bottom left and the only way to restart the computer is to force shut it down.
My set up is a windows 7 64 bit computer with mbam and bitdefender protection. I have on my desktop a gpu meter and the weather from windows gadget if that makes a difference. My specs are: ATI Radeon 6500, 720 psu, 3.2ghz six core computer, 12 gb ram.

[CODE]My computer is randomly shutting down power then restarts on it's own. I have tried to find a common function that might be causing this to happen. But have not found any. At first I thought it was th eIE since the shutdown always occurred while surfing th eInternet. But, I have had it shutdown once not being on th eInternet (maybe 99 to 98% while on the internet). The computer will run for days, weeks and even months before it shows up again. I have replaced the Power supply, the video card with one just like it, and rearranged the memory (3 x 2g) OCZ GoldI have run the memory test with Windows 7 and no problems were found. Where do I go from here? I have never seen the temparature exceed 42 C. The Vcore is 0.94, +3.3v is 3.33, +5 is 5.19, +12v is 12.25, CPU temp 33 C, and MB is 30C as I write this message

I have had several BSOD's all with the BBCode 109. I have heard that is often memory issues, but cant find fault with the memory. The BSOD's appear to be random. I haven't had one while gaming yet, but most have occurred while I was not using the computer and one while I was on Chrome. All are BBCode 109.

I'm having a problem with a new computer I bought with Windows 7 (64bit) installed. At seemingly random points in time it will crash on me completely. I've managed to find out from a dumpfile that the likely cause of this problem is something called Rdyboost.sys I've managed to find it listed as a driver in windows/System32. Apart from that though I'm not sure how to find it, and was wondering.

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) on my workstation, previously running Windows XP professional. My problem is that it is extremely unstable; It randomly restarts - my screen goes black and then it restarts. I have installed Windows 7 twice - on the first install. I had gotten everything set up, all my programs (primarily video editing in nature- Adobe Master Collection CS3, Sorenson Squeeze and such) and my computer restarted. It froze and for a half second a scrambled screen appeared then it restarted. On restart it first said that it needed a bootable device cause it couldn't find one. On the second attempt at restart it would not allow me to load into windows it just came to the screen "starting windows" and remained there. On restart it gave me no option for start normal - just the option to repair system startup - or continue if it was just a power failure. The continue did not work. So I tried to repair startup - this would not work either - it said that windows could not repair itself. So I was forced to format my drive and reinstall.
On second installation - I thought I was safe. Then I had the same random restart. This time however, I repaired restart. It said that it was repairing my registry. But it must have monkeyed with it because it corrupted some of my programs. Then I continued to have the same freeze, scramble, reboot - only on the next several occasions it gave me a bluescreen. I tried after looking at forums to up the voltage of my ECC Ram (4gb - 2slots) from 1.8v to 1.83v (manufacture says they should run at 1.8v). This did not seem to help. I also tried running it with only one stick of Ram - worked for awhile over night, but then failed again the next day. I don't know if there is any relation - two failures were during system backup (from backup/restore center) and twice it failed when I was deleting from the trash. But then it failed at other random times as well. - However, It will work for extended periods of time - but then randomly quits.
I am trying to find the problem - but do not know where else to look. It appears to be hardware, but then I am not sure if it could be software related. I MUST get this machine up and running - Primary work machine.
Here are my Hardware specs:
OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600
System Type x64-based PC)

I'm using Windows 7 SP1 on a quite capable machine. I'm getting random freezes, and what I mean by that is programs just freeze and wont respond. Games , Opera and Skype freeze for sure but the task manager manage to stay awake for long enough for me to do a basic overview of the problem. CPU usage of all programs drop to 0 but the memory usage slightly increased. The Network usage dropped to 0 while some of the cores of the CPU were being used a little. That is all I know. The freezes take about 30 seconds to 1 minute and appear at random moments and Screw me up really good.

I just wanted to see if I could get an opinion concerning random freezes in Windows 7 (on an internal Seagate Momentus XT hard disk drive). I have Windows 8 installed on an external drive connected to my computer via eSATA and it works just fine; no freezes have been reported. What happens is that after periods of non-use (15 minutes or more) and even longer periods of use (over an hour) my computer freezes. Instead of my pointer cursor I see the all-too-familiar blue wheel indicating that a process is working, but it never finishes whatever it is doing.

while I'm surfing the web or playing games and whatnot... My computer just reboots all of a sudden. And not just once, but once it reboots, it reboots again several times before I manage to log in or sometimes after I log in but not even get to the Desktop, or it halts completely when the windows Symbol appears (The one with the four dots which turn into a flag or something) so I have to turn it off by keeping the power button pressed. Also, the reboots are usually accompanied by a screeching sound.

for the past 5 months i've been experiencing my windows 7 to randomly freeze at least once a day. it will become unresponsive, the waiting icon (the little circle) will replace the mouse pointer and the only way out will be hard restart. initially i thought it was either corrupted windows files or damaged hdd. last week i bought myself a new hdd - 120gb ssd drive. i made a clean install on the ssd drive and i formatted my old hdd to use as storage. after few hours of using my newly installed windows copy i experience the same problem.it seems to happen a lot when uploading - for example it happens every time i try to upload a Internet video. but not just that, sometimes it will randomly freeze upon launching chrome etc.

I'm on a CHEESY work computer which perhaps a dozen people have access to. It's running Windows XP SP3, Internet Explorer 7. While surfing the web I keep getting randow new browser windows popping open on me all the time. They are running Symantec Endpoint Protection, which I used to initiate a full system scan. The only thing that came up was a few tracking cookies. These random pop-ups are driving me nuts!

I was getting some random BSOD's when I started using my desktop PC again a couple weeks ago. It has fairly new components and I update the drivers regularly. I tried all I could to diagnose the dmp files and fix it myself, but after many continued BSOD's I gave up, wiped my drive, and re-installed Windows. After recieving yet another BSOD after my re-install, I booted Memtest to check my RAM and it passed 7 times looping with no errors. Since then I have recieved another BSOD for a total of two since my wipe yesterday. I am running Win 7 64-bit OEM which like I said, I re-installed yesterday. I am re-booting out of safe mode to post my 'perfmon /report' because it apparently can't be done in safe mode.
Edit: I attached the perfmon report. It must have incorrectly analyzed my components because it says that they are all rated at zero. I re-did it and it did the same thing so I don't know what to think of that...

I just upgraded my PC with a new Mobo, Processor, cooler, and an SSD for the OS. I play World of Warcraft. It seems as though it only restarts when I'm running WoW. I left the computer on for 4 days with no restarts. This is with a completely fresh install of 7 with all updates and the proper drivers for my system installed. Within less than 1 hour of starting WoW my system reboots, and now it does it approx. every 15-30 min if running WoW. Sometimes sooner, sometimes longer..This is the only error that comes up in the Event Log
Event 6008, EventLog The previous system shutdown at 1:45:28 PM on 11/20/2010 was unexpected.

I've read that event 6008 is a thermal event... meaning something's overheating... but i've been monitoring everything constantly and there's nothing running hot at all. In fact, everything is really cool within this system.

I have a custom build computer Intel i7. It keeps on freezing up at random, most of the time i have seen that happen is when its idle for a while and when i RDP into the computer. It freezes when I am watching a movie or something, but noting else is running in the background.I can not pin point the hardware or the software that is causing this issue. Its not a blue death screen freeze but more like a screen freezes and I have to physically reset the computer. So for I have changed the graphic card and my hard drives. But still running into the same random freeze. [code]

I'm not sure what's happening but I have a feeling it's either Win 7 or a hard drive about to fail. Starting this morning I had a lock up of my PC which I then had to turn off the power to the PC and then restart it. I started getting the "reboot and select proper boot device" prompt which with past computers has meant a hard drive was dying. I'll power it off again and it'll boot normally into Win 7. I will leave my PC on and then after 20+ minutes, it will reset and the prompt will come up again. Now my main concern is that I don't know which HD could be failing. I have a 120 GB SSD as well as 1 TB HD.

There's no getting to Task Manager, no moving the mouse, just a frozen screen requiring a hard boot. There's no pattern. It could be while he's using the internet, it could be while its idling, it could be in sleep mode.I've disabled sleep and screen saver and it still freezes up.I've run a lot of malware/virus programs and they don't find anything.
