RAID 1 Has Gone Critical

Feb 26, 2012

Recently had my RAID 1 go critical, "a member of the array has failed or is not responding". This happened after getting BSOD while playing Battlefied 3 (that was loaded on the RAID (is serving as C). I replaced one of the drives, repaired the RAID and then loaded Call of Duty MW3 into a different 320 GB drive. That game has also crashed to BSOD and now RAID is listed as critical again. RAID looks like it has split the two drives. One is listed as <LD 2> and the other is listed as <single drive>. Is there a way to get them back together again? Sure would love to find harmony within my computer.

Converting To Raid 0 Windows 7, Not Hardware Raid 0

I have tried to find the way to do this, but without success as I cannot see the wood for the trees.

I have a mature Windows 7 system, with so many applications loaded that rebuilding from scratch is just not an option. I have a 300MB Velociraptor wholly given over to the OS and another empty 300MB VR. I want to extend, that may not be the right word, my OS to use both disks in Raid 0.

Hardware RAID 1 To Windows 7 RAID 1

Jul 10, 2012

I have Win 7 Pro 64 bit installed on an ASUS P7P55D LE motherboard which supports RAID 0,1,5 and 10 using Intel Matrix Storage Technology through an on board Intel P55 chip set. The system was assembled in Nov 2009 using two Western Digital Caviar Black 750Gb drives in RAID 1 as Drive C:. (I now know from Western Digital Customer Service that I shouldnt have done that, but lets move on from there). Last December, an error message informed me the RAID array was broken and identified one of the 750 Mb drives as needing replacement. I happened to have a spare 1.5Tb WD Caviar Black at the time, so I pulled the 750Mb drive and replaced it with the 1.5Tb drive. Life was once again good. Then on July 4th (wouldnt you know) there was a repeat of the December 2011 error message telling me to replace the other original 750Gb drive. Okay so I had another 1.5Tb WD Caviar Black laying around (dont ask) and did a similar swap out. Thats when I emailed WD Customer Support asking about the 750 since their diagnostic software said the drives were fine. Thats when I learned that I should be paying lots more for enterprise quality drives if I want/need RAID. Well thats not what ASUS says in their advertising, but live and learn. All thats prologue, because my real question is whether its possible to break the hardware-based RAID 1 array and set up a Windows 7-based RAID 1 with the two 1.5Tb WD Caviar Black drives without having to reinstall Windows 7.

SB600 ATI RAID AHCI Drivers? (BSOD On Boot If In RAID/AHCI Mode.)

Jan 6, 2009

anyways, my main drive is a RAID 0 with Vista x64, but I have a second HD that is a SATA 250GB, which I installed Windows 7 on. The only way I could get install to work was to switch my BIOS to IDE mode rather than RAID. I would of course though, like to be able to access my Vista drive from Windows 7 (and more importantly, not have to switch between IDE/RAID mode at all in the BIOS, it's a pain).

Now, the one odd this about this all is that the drivers I have for Vista (x86/x64 drivers) for this mobo's RAID controller WORK when loaded on installation to identify and install to the drive, but seem to not load or not work in any way once the first reboot on install occurs. Maybe this is because I installed from within Vista x64, though.

(Incedentally, my motherboard is an M3A Asus, using ATI's SB600 for a RAID controller)

I've tried loading the drivers from within Windows 7 while in IDE mode, but the install program won't let me. At first it didn't allow because of version restrictions, but then I altered the ini file to get around that, but it encounters some sort of error when installing and quits.

Any help that can be offered, would be grateful. I realise it's a beta and not a real release, so I can get past the BSOD from my odd setup, and I really am enjoying playing around with it so far. Very very impressed.

Edit: Just in case anyone thinks of suggesting me to right-click the inf file and install that way, already tried, won't allow for it.

Can't Get Windows 7 Critical Updates

Jul 4, 2011

I am using Win7, that I bought about a year ago, It's an eMachine & I don't know the model number. Where do I find the model number? It won't let me download critical updates (for almost a week now), and keeps saying "Failure configuring Windows Reverting changes" and then it restarts and does the same thing all over again! Why can't I get my windows updates? This is driving me crazy and I'm afraid that one of the "failure to update... and reverting changes" is going to fry my PC, or worse, stop it from coming on at all!

Aug 5, 2011

Users running Internet Explorer 9 or IE8 on top of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 will receive a Critical security bulletin next week. The security update is part of Microsoft's normal, monthly patch release process, and will be accompanied by a range of additional security bulletins.

The software giant plans to plug security holes in a number of its technologies, including the latest releases of its IE browser and Windows OS," revealed Angela Gunn Senior Response Communications Manager, Trustworthy Computing Microsoft."Today we're releasing our advance notification for the August security bulletin release, which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 9. This month's release includes 13 bulletins addressing 22 vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, Office, Internet Explorer, .NET and Visual Studio. All 13 bulletins will be released on Tuesday, August 9 at approximately 10 a.m. PDT," Gunn stated.

Only a couple of the 13 August 2011 security bulletins sport a severity rating of Critical, the Redmond company revealed, one impacting Internet Explorer, and the other Windows. The Critical IE patches will be delivered to all supported versions of the browser, including IE8 and IE9 running on Windows 7 SP1, as I have already said. The remaining Critical security bulletin will only impact customers running Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the Redmond company noted.

Periodic Crashes - Critical Event 41 (63)

Mar 8, 2012

My PC is just under 2 years old. It's a Dell Inspiron in which I upgraded the PSU (Corsair 550W) and the graphics card running Windows 7 Home Premium 64. Until earlier this year, I had no problems with it at all. I started getting crashes early/mid Feb. I recently (last week) replaced all the RAM, upgrading from 6GB to 8GB (Corsair). I reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7 completely. Including removing all the Dell partitions (was originally setup by them).

Up until the end of Feb 2012 I had Sophos running on my machine but currently need to reinstall virus checker. I try to keep everything updated. I updated the BIOS and graphics drivers; I cleaned my fans. I've run various diagnostics etc but I keep getting these crashes. It seems to happen particularly often when I'm playing Star Wars: the Old Republic but not exclusively. I've included all the files for analysis.

Kernel-Power Critical Event?

Jan 11, 2011

Recently I've been having a really odd problem with my computer. When left on for seemingly random periods of time it will just restart for no reason. It's never happened while I've been doing anything important, but I sleep in the same room and I notice the bios beeps. When I come back to the computer after it's been improperly restarted I must log in. Upon logging in I am met with a dialog box that says windows has shut down improperly, etc, etc. I click check for solutions and the dialog box just disappears. Absolutely no result to doing that.I then check computer management to see what the cause is. I receive the following:

Level: Critical
Date: 1/11/2011 7:45:51AM
Source: Kernel-Power
Event ID: 41
Task Category: (63)

This has happened 5 times. I was hoping it was just something power related as my house is pretty old, but I'm using a surge protector so I'm not quite sure. Now that it's happened this many times I realize it's not just going to go away and it could be pretty bad for my hardware.

System Crash Due To Windows 7 Critical Update

Aug 9, 2012

I had Windows 7 automatically downloading and installing critical updates. NO MORE!!! On 8/7/2012 a critical update was automatically downloaded and installed, unnoticed by me. When my computer would not turn on yesterday, 8/8/12 I tried many things, eventually restarting in Safe Mode - which did at least get me out of the black error screen and into windows. After poking around and testing things, I finally decided the only way to go was System Restore. There, I found there'd been an automatic critical update on 8/7/12. After restoring to before that point and turning off all automatic windows updates, my computer is now running fine.

Windows Has A Critical Error And Will Reboot In 1 Minute

Jun 9, 2012

Just this afternoon, I went to use my PC and got the following error; Windows has experienced a critical error and will restart in 1 minute. Running Windows 7 64 bit....With automatic updates so it should be the latest version of Windows...

My anti virus (Avira 2012 Internet Suite) pops up and states I have 2 viruses. But before the AV can do anything (delete the files) Windows shuts down....I finally got into Safe Mode and tried running my AV, while it was scanning I then got a BSOD. Had to start all over again; Running MalwareBytes now before trying to do the AV scan, just to see if MalwareBytes catches anything.

I have uninstalled the only application I've installed in 3 months, and problem still persists... I have a Hijackthis log if it needs to be viewed...Just let me know and I'll upload it.

C:Drive Memory On CRITICAL / 'My Documents' Got Deleted

Feb 26, 2012

I have Windows 7 Home Premium, 32bit laptop. So this started with my accidentally deleting the 'My Documents'. At the time of deleting, i think it showed, My Documents is too large for recycle bin. That's why i can't find it there. (I have tried 'Recuva' to recover deleted files, but 'cause i'm not much of a computer literate, i didn't know what files to retrieve and what to leave. Though, from the files i did bring back, most are corrupted, overwritten or something.) Also, after My Documents got deleted, under 'C:Users', a padlock has appeared on my '(User Name) Folder' - but 'Public Folder' is fine. As i clicked 'User Name' properties, the 'Share With' showed - 'Nobody'. {other options available were 'Homegroup(read), Homegroup (readwrite) and Specific People'}. Shouldn't it be showing - 'Advance sharing' ?Thus, i thought maybe restoring 'User Name' folder to its previous version would work. When i did that, it said - not enough memory. i tried again, 'cause i knew there was more than half of its total capacity available. {I regularly keep a check on it.} But after repeating the restoring process, i again got 'Not Enough Memory'. Later, when i opened the C:Drive it really showed that suddenly the drive was low on space- very, very low. i tried 'disk clean' and deleted most of the things from there. Then i opened C:Drive to check. Instead of making more space, i saw 3.62 GB of Free Space lessen to 2.72 G.B ! However, i still tried for the forth time to restore 'User Name' folder to previous version and got the same regretable 'Not Enough Memory'.

Loss Of Functions Following Recommended Critical Update

Feb 12, 2012

Yesterday (11/02/12) Windows notified that there were a couple of critical updates available for installation. Always keen to keep my spec up-to-date I proceeded to install them. I'm afraid I don't know the details of the updates. As I did a System Restore (see below) they have been removed from the list of Installed Updates. After automatic installing and re-starting the first thing I noticed was that the screen resolution had been changed. Fixed that through control panel. More importantly I discovered that the following had occurred: I could not get any sound. Could not get streaming video. Flash crashed every time Certain links within Control Panel would not function Investigating (1) above, Device Manager reported that the hardware was functioning correctly. In attempting to resolve this via Control Panel/Appearance & Personalization/Personalization I noticed that the Sounds link indicated No sounds and I could not click through from the link (see below) to change anything (this happens with a few other Control Panel options).

I can find no way of reaching the sound properties. All links are non-functioning.For (2) I uninstalled Flash Player using the Flash uninstaller, cleared out the registry of any remaining entries for it (yes there were still a couple) and re-installed it (v11.1.102.55) and re-started PC. On first re-install I had no success but tried same process again and did get it to stream video (no sound). However when I started PC today we are back to the same problem.I have also cleaned registry with no improvement.Having drawn a blank with these two problems I then did a system restore to the point where the Windows updates occurred. This has not changed anything so I am really stuck as to know what if anything I can do. The system and applications generally are working fine. Networking and Internet connection is fine. As the machine came pre-loaded with Win 7 I do not have a Windows Disk.

Computer Hangs On Bootup After Critical Update

Sep 14, 2012

My windows 7 computer hung when i started it the other day. The startup repair did not work after several attempts. I tried to choose an old restore point and it gave me a message "you must enable protection on this drive" Problem was, it did not allow me to check the drive box or give any option to enable protection....So, i started a system restore of the software, keeping data intact. It did its thing and presented a message "setup could not install windows on this systems hardware" It then reboots and comes back with " windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation." It just keeps rebooting and returning this message....i cannot restart the installation.... the only other info i got was after the initial startup repair it said this :

System disk=devicehardisk0
windows directory = d:windows
autock = 0
number of root causes = 1

this all happend after a critical windows update by the way....

Critical Drivers Not Found On Windows Start-up, But Are Really Present

Sep 22, 2011

I have only one problem with my laptop and that is at the start-up. I open up my laptop, and what I see is that there are several drivers that Windows is searching for, but cannot find.

So, as a pretty advanced user, I simply downloaded the required drivers and installed them. But when I re-started my computer, the "Searching for Drivers" pop up came up again.

So, I took the software approach. I downloaded Driver Genius, and then Driver Robot to install drivers that are supposedly missing. They installed the drivers, but when I re-started the computer, the deplorable screen cam up again.

I realised then, that the drivers are actually installed, but Windows cannot seem to be able to find them at all....

UPDATE:

The Driver that the System cannot find is Intel 5 Series Chipset 3400 - SMBus SB30. I hate tried re-installing the Chipset, but it does not install for some reason.
