Programs Won't Open Properly
OS: Win 7 HomeP 64bit
Recently Installed programs: Dragon Agerigins/DX update
I installed those both last night and played with no issues. Now today I turn on my PC and some programs won't open properly. My browser(Chrome) works(more on this later) and a few others do as well, but things like GameSpy Comrade, and Dragon Age, and Crysis 32/64bit will not open properly. When I click to open it loads for a bit than the program freezes, or it loads than does nothing. In both cases the program shows up in the task manager processes. If the program freezes it shows up in the task manager as running.
Solutions I've tried:
Restarting the computer
Virus scan(No results)
Can anyone give me some ideas?
Also chrome opens 3 times in the processes but I only have one window and one tab open. Is this normal?

All Programs Won't Display And Speech Recognition Won't Start
My speech recogntiion won't start. I don't have a system restore that far back, but it hasn't been working since 3, maybe 4 updates back and I am now just getting around to it, since I have had other concerns lately. The error I get is "Speech recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported. The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options." I go there and press certain buttons and I sometimes get the error message "The requested task can not be carried out because the neccesary engine can not be created. Please select a different engine and/or audio device." I have tried changing the laguage and then restarting and it still won't work. I am using the same mic I was using before when it worked. I have not installed any new sound drivers when it stopped although I have looked for the sound drivers since and there are no new ones. I also had two other problems after the same Windows 7 update with the All Programs not displaying in the Start Menu, but I have dont a temporary fix with that, but it is still not working the way it is supposed to as I had to make a new sub folder in the Programs folder and change the location to that folder every time I start up Windows and so now I go into All Programs and then a second folder, which is ok for now, gonna write a batch file to do it for me anyway. The other problem is that my sidebar wouldn't start, but I think I fixed that last night. As my gadgets are now working.

Why Won't Media Player 12 Open To Full Screen By Default ?
I installed Windows 7 RC, which included Windows Media Player 12. When playing music, it will not open to a full screen without the user having to press ALT-ENTER. Instead, there is this tiny little screen. THIS IS VERY IRRITATING. It was not this way with prior versions of Windows Media Player. I have looked everywhere in the program and cannot find the settings to set WMP 12 to open to a full screen when playing audio. I can only conclude that there is not this option in the settings. Again, this is very irritating. How can I set up Windows Media Player 12 so that it automatically, by default, opens to full screen when music is played? If I can't get these features, I will otherwise have to wipe the disk and re-install Vista. I have searched the internet extensively and found no iinformation on correcting this serious flaw.

Can't Open Links From Any External Programs
I'm currently working with a laptop running a new copy of Windows 7 Professional (not the one in my system specs). Mozilla Firefox is the default browser, and for some reason, I can't get any links I click on in external programs to open. I click on a link in Outlook, Messenger, or any other program, and the focus switches off of that program, but nothing else happens. Firefox is working just fine otherwise. Any ideas or suggestions?

Most 32-bit Programs Won't Run In RTM
I've been using Win7 since the beta, and not once have I had this problem 'till now (and I've used builds 7000, 7100, 7229, and 7260 without issues). But starting with build 7600.16384 (I have the RTM now (7600.16385)), I've been having trouble getting 32-bit programs to work. At first they were slow to start--now they won't start at all. Originally I could work around it by running them apps as Admin w/compatability for Vista SP2, but now even that doesn't work. 64-bit apps startup fine (Photoshop, IE8, any built-in app, etc.), but anything 32-bit will just sit in the Task Manager all day, with the memory usage never above 3-4MB, and simply fail to start. No error messages, no abrupt termination, just nothing. The only exceptions have been FL Studio 8 and Steam (but Steam games won't run), both of which run perfectly despite being 32-bit. I can only last so long using IE and not being able to play any games.

Running Programs Won't Show Up On Taskbar
I'm running 64-bit Windows 7. Last night my computer was fine, and I just booted up today to find that whenever I run programs, they don't show up on the taskbar. I have two monitors, one is my laptops screen and the other an external one. If I drag the applications to my laptop screen, they show up on the external screen, but if they are on the external screen, they don't show up at all. The external is set to my main display. Any ideas on what's going on?

Some Programs Won't Run/install, Explorer Slow, Ect.
It was all fine until yesterday. I copied over a game from my laptop the night before (I just installed 7 on this computer recently, was copying over stuff from my laptop) and also finished installing World of Warcraft and not long after I turned off the computer. The next day I switched it on and didn't notice anything at first but some programs wouldn't run (Winamp would have a blank space where the music list normally is). I tried installing some virtual drive programs such as magic disc and power iso which I usually use for isos I rip onto the computer (I lost some discs before so I've been doing that recently) but the magic disc programs wouldn't run properly and power iso wouldn't progress during its installation. I tried installing some anti spyware like AVG and Avast (Spyware doctor detected 300 odd tracking cookies that appeared in the past week I installed, way more than it did with my vista laptop) but they would just either not respond (and then pop up with a message saying it took a while and wouldn't respond) or just not even progress when it was installing (on the part where it begins putting down files) Explorer itself is slow and takes a while to load when on "My computer" and usually wouldn't display USB drives. Once it did but it didn't actually open it up when I clicked on it and prevented the window from responding. I have used task manager to close all these down when they wouldn't. When I tried switching off my computer it just stayed on the logging off/shutting down screen. I tried leaving it overnight, expecting it to finally switch off but it only ende up going into sleep mode (and popped up with the log in screen when I waked it up) I have switched the computer off and on a few times but its still the same. I also got the disc I used to install and tried to repair it but it wouldn't boot from the disc when I switched on the PC and when I opened it up and ran the setup file, it came up with the usual "are you sure you want to run this" dialog and didn't do anything.

Start Search Programs And Files Not Working Properly
Its been happening ever since I installed Windows 7. For example, When I click Start, type "CC" in the search box, the Start menu displays what I intend to start (CCleaner) but when I press enter I get this: Its acting completely wierd! On top of that, when I right click the entry, I get a menu which is expanded towards the left awkwardly. I also recall that I have unchecked "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties." in the properties of my Windows 7 boot drive. And since the programs are installed there, I think the problem might be related. I have checked it again but it dosen't have any effect!

DVD Movies Don't Appear As Movies And Doesn't Autoplay Properly
Rather than having a DVD movie that appears as a movie when inserted (Autoplay comes up asking to play the movie in a player and the icon in my computer is the thumbnail of the DVd and the DVD says the movie name in my computer) the dvd is treated as just another UDF file system on a dvd and when i double click on it, it actually explores the dvd rather than play it (as in it will go in the dvd and show my the VIDEO_TS folder). I have to manually go to media player navigate to the dvd through media player and choose to play it. This has happened with the commercial DVDs; Ocean's 12 and The Island.

Network And Sharing Doesn't Work Properly
I have a Windows 7 laptop connected via a WRT54G2 wireless router to an XP SP3 desktop. Both the laptop and desktop can see shared resources and both can connected to the internet. In the Laptop's Network and Sharing Center, however, things are not correct. The Laptop has two connections to the router, lan and wireless. The lan's connection appears OK, but I cannot generate a map. I get "Windows cannot discover any computer or device." The wireless network is public. I don't know why and I don't know how to change it. Also, when I try to create a new network connection, the laptop sees only a WRT160N router (which I don't have; perhaps I did a while ago, when the laptop ran Vista). No place to add a new one. I have Cisco's Network Magic and it can correct see everything, including the right router.

DivX 6 Encode AVI's Won't Play In Media Center
I am having a very odd problem. I have a bunch of files on another computer that I used to stream to this computer when it was Vista Ultimate running in Media Center. Now, with 7 RC Ultimate, when I try to stream the very same files within Media Center, Media Center itself crashes and has to be restarted. This seems to be on ANY AVI that I have that is DivX 6 or XviD encoded (I think XviD anyway, I have definitely narrowed it down to being a DivX problem). I can go out to Windows Explorer and choose the very same file and play it perfectly fine in the regular Media Player application. I am not understanding why it plays in Media Player, but not in the much more desireable Media Center.

Windows Does Not Remember Programs Used To Open A File
I have some .mkv files on my system. Windows 7 does not seem to remember the programs that I used to open those files with. I keep getting the default open with menu option without any available programs and then select a default program. Even if open the file with WMP64, Winamp, BSplayer or Media Player Classic, those programs do not appear in the open with context menu, and I cant quickly open the file with those programs. Is there something wrong which I can fix?

Duplicate Media Player Entries In Open With And Recommended Programs List
When right click on an WMV file, I am presented with 2 entries for WMPlayer. The same 2 entries are shown under selecting default program (i.e. Recommended Programs" list. This is a x64 Win7 (Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]) upgraded from Vista x64. Any ideas to how to fix this? I have already tried to zap the "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFileExts.wmvOpenWithList" but that didn't help. I even forced the default player to be x64 (i.e. %windir%system32unregmp2.exe /SwapTo:64) and it didn't do it either. This is quite annoying. By the way, the two WMPlayer entries represent x86 and x64 version of wmplayer.exe but there is no way to tell because they're both labeled "Windows Media Player".

Can't Open Ports
I just installed Windows 7 tonight and thus have moved from the Vista forums to here But of course if everything were going smoothly I wouldn't be here. Now here's my problem, I'm trying to open ports for some of my programs but I havn't been able to. I've done it many times before in Vista with no trouble. I've tried disabling the firewall to see if that worked but it didn't. Now here's where it gets weird. When I was in Vista I'd use Open Port Check Tool to check if my ports were opened correctly, it always worked. But now when I try it it tells me that my ports are closed, even basic ports like 80 and 21 keep getting: Error: I could not see your service on 76.68.106.153 on port (80) Reason: Connection timed out

Pinned Programs Disappearing From 'recently Used' List
I have a really weird problem here. Pinning certain apps to the superbar causes them to stop appearing in the 'frequently used programs' list - but only for certain programs; currently I've noticed it with DestroyTwitter (an Adobe Air app) but more puzzlingly, with Winamp and VLC media player. DestroyTwitter is set to minimize/close to systray and Winamp is docked but not set to appear in the superbar at all - so its icon is always in the systray even while it's technically not 'minimized' but hidden at the top of my screen. On the other hand, VLC doesn't have any special tray settings. Also, Digsby works fine pinned and in the recent menu, and it's set to close to systray (though it minimizes to taskbar). I know opening an app from the pinned apps doesn't 'count' towards the use count that the frequently used programs list is based on - but even opening them from their start menu entries doesn't make any difference until I manually unpin the app. The rest of the frequently used programs list works fine. I can't figure this out. Anyone have any thoughts? (I've tried changing the minimize-to-tray settings, with no difference).
