I am a Windows 7 user, and I had some problems with my pc yesterday. The Icons in the move able disc fields all changed to look like Free Agent K. I don't know how it happened, and didn't know how to fix it when I was done with the HP tech. She was helping me with a printer problem.
In my 'computer' - By that I mean the place where OS (:C) Is located and all - There is no more an option for removable media. Or removable storage. I run windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
So basicly no SD, Usb use to work. UNLESS I go to change driver letters and paths and then choose assign a letter and assign one but it only works for one time and then next time insert a different or same usb nothing happens. This is crazy. There is suppose to be a drop down bar in 'computer' but its just not there. Only hard drive disks drop down menu is there. And I have a asus laptop. U50 F Series.
Alright, so my Acer laptop has been working fine with no problems at all since i bought it about 2 years ago. This was until yesterday where i turned it on, just to see no login screen, only a black screen with a moveable cursor
I tried ctrl+alt+delete didn't work
I tried to repair windows with the repair disc through a USB, didnt work. It said that windows couldn't automaticly fix the issue, in the log it said:
I tried to restore to previous system points, but didn't have any for some reason
When i boot from the repair disc, i'm able to get into the menu where i chose OS, and found out that when i press Load Drivers, i'm able to access my HDD, where everything seems to be intact, already copied some important work stuff to a seperate HDD if *** won't get working
I wanted to make a new partition on my hp laptop on the only disc it as.Unfortunately, because it came with already 4 partitions I accidentally turned the disk into a dynamic disk. Now its booting normally but I cant load the system Image that I have created before the partition.Other than that the pc is running smoothly. As I said this is the only disk on the system. Is it possible to convert the disk back to basic? After a lot of googling I found some exmples but all of them assumed you had a second disk on your system. Is it possible to convert the disk back to basic without having to reinstall windows?(I have no windows cd
I have a toshiba satellite L750 running Windows 7 home premium, when trying to burn anything onto a blank disc I get as far as selecting my items and asking it to burn but it keeps telling me to insert a blank disc (which obviously I have). I have tried several different types of blank disc but it dosnt seem to recognise any of them.
So I have an bit of an odd and I think unique problem (as many searches came up with no solutions). Simply put, my boot manager is missing, but only when my windows install disc is not in the disc drive. It started several months ago and I just left it be, let the disc it int he disc drive and it was not that big of a deal. But just did a clean install couple days ago I re-installed windows 7 ultimate 64-bit on my computer (using an upgrade disc if that makes a difference).I formatted the drive with what I guess is a quick format (the option the install disc gives you). I have tried doing a repair with the install disc but no problems are found every time I try.
Is there any way to use a windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade disc as a installation disc? Or would I have to go out and get another Windows installation disc and then use the upgrade disc?
I created a few shortcuts from chrome and added them to my Taskbar for ease of use. I created one for each of my multiple Gmail accounts etc and I changed their icons to something so I can identify which was which. The shortcut's took the icon and worked fine for a short period than I noticed every time I click on the icon after changing the default icon to my new one It would change the icon back to Gmails default one.
all my icons on desktop and computer have turned to notepad icons... and they open with some text on notepad... looking for a solution to go back to normal settings...
Some of the icons normally showing what a program type is are missing now. I HAVE all the DESKTOP icons and those in the system tray. But in Windows Explorer lists or in Word Perfect and Word lists of file names, many of the small icons that normally appear next to a program's name, or showing what type of document or file it is, are now missing. Not all, just some. I have mostly open square boxes. It doesn't matter whether I'm looking at a list of files I've created, or looking at the items in various system folders: most are just empty open squares instead of the individual icons. I have Windows 7 64-bit OS , both Mozilla 17 and IE9 browsers.
Finally I have found the place where my problem might get solved.Thing is: 1.There is a big "X" on 3 out of 4 disks I got(except "C" disk) as shown in the picture below: 2.Desktop icons are changed as well but not all of them. This is the second time this kind of crap happens to me. Last time it happened was after I clicked system backup. I couldn't stand the problem so I reinstalled my windows 7 pro 32bit and at first it was all ok. It came back after I rebooted which I couldn't figure out why. The only diffrence is last time all the desktop icons were changed, but this time as you can see some of the icons aren't changed.
Is there a way to make the folder icons look like the windows XP folder icons, where the folders are flat instead of skewed, and showed 1 to 4 picture thumbnails? Its awfully difficult for someone like me who has a huge amount of categorization to find what he is looking for due to the lack of functionality that the folder thumbnails have in this version of Windows. Yeah, sure they look all pretty, but its difficult to even figure out what the general picture contents of the folder is unless you're already very familiar with it.
I am still quite puzzled as to how are you supposed to install the Windows 7 OS without an actual CD? I've only done it previously with XP home edition and I had a CD. If you still do not understand what I mean, I'm confused on how will the OS, during installation, gather the information when there's no CD inside to read from?
My second question would be, which one of the versions (Home, Professional, Ultimate) is the best for GAMING? I have no need for security, but anything that would make my games, internet, etc run smoother would be of use.
I have Windows 7 64-bit and I burnt some pictures on a CD-R for my mom. She has XP 32-bit and when she puts the disc in it says file is corrupt/unreadable..I tried it yesterday too and you simply can't access the disc any possible way. Does this have something to do with 64/32 compatibility? I used Windows Explorer default burning method on a brand new disc.
No issues with earlier builds, but on one portable and one server I am now getting issues with the RTM bits where the dvd disc stops being read by the dvd drive.
What is weird, is I start the load process from the dvd drive no problem.
But, after it goes a while, I get an error on both of these different machines that there is no valid cd/dvd driver and will go no further in the install process. (Works fine on a different portable I have). On one portable, I hook up a USB drive and load the OS from it.
When loaded, I look at device manager, and it says the dvd drive is installed,
and all the drivers look fine. But, if I put a CD or DVD into the drive, nothing.
I know everything is good, so what changed in the RTM bits and how do I fix?
I've downloaded the ethernet etc, and graphics drivers and put them into .rar files.I also downloaded winrar and tried putting the .exe as a data file (all files on one disc) so i could install that, then the drivers, but the exe doesn't even appear on the disc so i cannot install anything. cannot put the downloaded .exe of winrar on disc to install on another machine, doesn't even show, and as such drivers are useless.
I recently purchased Star Wars: The old Republic for windows.
I upgraded from windows vista about a year ago, but I have yet to install a game with the use of disk, The problem is, when I put the disk in the DVD/RW drive, ...nothing happens.
The only time something really happens , is when it shows the DVD ROM thumbnail, but when I Open it up, it either freezes my computer, or It shows nothings in the file.
I have tried running it through the run application, and it gives me a notice that the file is corrupted. I have tried using this game in my other computer and it works fine..
Just recently, I created a system repair disc with a 4.7 gigabyte DVD-R disc. After the disc was formatted, it's capacity was reduced to 146 megabytes. How do I get the disc's capacity back to normal? I don't want to waste 4.68 gigabytes just for a repair disc.If anyone knows how to get my disc's space back, please tell me. I'll learn from my mistake and use smaller discs first before using gigantic ones.
I want to format my HD, but downloaded windows 7 because i'm impatient.. i know you can't do it without the disc, but is there anything to do about it?
I've been looking to upgrade an older Thinkpad T61 with windows 7, now I've been looking on Amazon and have seen the OEM version. Now I have 7 pre installed on another machine, and will buying an OEM version still work fine. Also I have 64 bit on my main system and I was wondering about compatibility on this one, it has 2 gig's of ram and a core 2 duo T7300 so I think it is 64 bit compatible and just need some clarification. 64 bit would give me some head room if I ever want to give it 4 gigs.
