I turn off the windows 7 disk defragmenter schedule because it is too frequency & done without asking user approval. Also too many disk defragmenter will damage harddisk.
But windows 7 boot optimize still run without user agreement amd it need to turn off in registry. Will you turn off windows 7 boot optimize? Is it will give damage to harddisk?
How do I turn on and off Windows 7 defrag and optimization at boot time? Is there an option for periodicity? I don´t want to let HDD running at 100 pct for hours. How do you choose optimization of the system files too? And can I run it not only on drive C:?
After installing a fresh Windows 7, I would optimize it doing the steps of those guides: Speed Up Windows 7 - Ultimate Guide To Make Windows 7 Blazing Fast!!! (17 steps) Master Tutorial to Make Your Windows 7 Super Fast - Tweaking with Vishal (7 steps)
Instead of doing this manually, I would use a .REG (and/or .BAT) file. So, for those steps below:
1. Disabling the Search Indexing Feature in Windows 7. 2. Disable the Aero Theme on Windows 7. 3. Disable all Visual Effects (Sys. Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Visual Effects) 4. Disable the User account control (UAC). 5. Disable the Windows 7 Sidebar. 6. Disable the Aero Peek and Aero Snap features in Windows 7. 7. Change the Power Plan To Maximum Performance. 8. Disable the Thumbnail Preview Feature. 9. Disable all System Sounds (run > mmsys.cpl).
Question A. What are the Windows 7 registry branches storing those settings?
Question B. Which Windows 7 registry tool localize those branches? Comparing the registry before and after manually doing one of those step. Registry Monitor- Askkids.com regshot | Get regshot at SourceForge.net Splunk | IT Search for Log Management, Operations, Security and Compliance
How can I get the most out of my fresh Windows 7 installation? I have a Lenovo B570 with a 2nd Gen i3 processor and 4GB DDR3 RAM. 500 GB HD.I use my computer daily and work from home on my computer. I run a lot of memory intense programs and software so full optimization is necessary. I almost always have multiple programs open. I would like to know what programs I should get(ie Tune Up Utilities, Advanced System care) for optimization
I have recently been granted admin rights on my work computer. While the computer was locked down, the Aero visual effects were set to "adjust for best performance".I can change it to "adjust for best appearance" and the Aero effects appear - until I reboot the computer. After the reboot, the checkbox is still set to "adjust for best appearance" however, the effects are disabled. I have to change the setting, change it back to best appearance and hit OK. Then everything works again. The friend in IT who granted the admin rights told me that this is due to the group policy our company has set up - and that there is nothing he can do about it.I have checked gpedit and regedit but could not find any relevant entries.Do you have any idea how I could automagically adjust the settings back to best appearance after every reboot? I was thinking that if I cannot turn of the group policy myself, then maybe I could write some sort of script that changes to appearance settings for me (instead of me having to do it manually every time).
My printer keeps giving me the error message "A printer error has occurred, turn off the printer, then press on button to turn on. See your documentation" I have unistalled it held down the on button and cancel button at the same time to print a test paper, but still can't get anything to print.
I have had windows 7 installed for a while now and thought i would reinstall it using a new copy to wipe my pc.When the new version loaded the screen was out of focus (like it is when the screen resolution is set incorrectly)However the old version of windows 7 was still present and when i turn on the pc i am given the option to chose from two windows 7s.Is it possible to remove one?Why would the new version not be installed correctly ( i have played around with screen settings etc but cannot fix it)

I am trying to turn on Windows Defender with no success. I click on the works turn on Windows Defender but it just keeps going on and on. I tried downloading it again with the wizard but it said it said the wizard was interrupted and try again when I do it does the same thing. i tried downloading it from the Windows site and after downloading the pop up said "You do not need to install this software because Windows Defender is included in Windows Vista (I have Windows 7) You can access Windows Defender from the security section of the Windows Control Panel". Again, I tried this but when I click on the words "turn Defender on" it just keeps going on and on without doing anything.
Can a windows 7 computer turn on by its self connect to a wifi internet connection start itunes and go to a specific radio station play for a few hours and then turn off and be able to do it all again night after night?I have a friend and she just cant get how to use a computer no matter how I try and teach her. She has a wifi connection and would like to listen to a specific radio station at night while she falls asleep. At present she listens to a station via itunes when I come to visit and I get the station for her.I wonder can a computer that is off be made to boot or does it have to be in hibernation or stand by to come on and where in windows 7 do I make the settings as to what time of day to come alive or on from being off. And I assume the same place is where I will have to put in settings to power off or go into stand by or hibernation. So first off is this possible?
I am a Mac guy so not sure but I think I already know where and how to tell it if a particular wifi is present to connect with it also if it loses the connection will it automatically reacquire that network? If the above is possible can I get itunes or Internet explorer or firerfox or other internet browser to startup and go and connect to a radio stations live feed via wifi without having to manually click on any button on the page?Is what I want to do very complicated and could be prone to hang or freeze and she would have to be computer savvy to get it all going again which like I said above she is not. Could she just hold down the laptops power button shut down and then repress to restart and it would come back on and all would be able to pick up where it left off?Do I approach this as have itunes always runningconnected to the station could the computer be made to go to standby or hibernation at a specific time and itunes would continue to run just not make noise so when it comes out of stand by or hibernation it will be on and connected streaming the radio stations music?
After loading several AV programs/scanners due to trying to eliminate a virus, I wanted to confirm my Windows Firewall was turned on. When I went to Control Panel/Windows Firewall and clicked on "Turn Windows Firewall On or Off", all I saw in the "Customize settings for each type of network" window was the button "Use recommended settings" within a box called "Update your firewall settings". When I clicked on that button, nothing happened. Contrary to the picture shown in the Windows 7 Help pages, there was no option to actually turn the firewall on/off in this particular window. My intention is to simply verify the Windows Firewall is turned on after this virus happened. My questions are:1) Could an AV program/scanner program that I loaded have caused the Windows Firewall to be disabled (or replaced)? How do I know which AV programs have their own built-in firewall?2) Assuming my Windows Firewall should be turned on, how can I verify it really is turned on?
I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my MSI PR200 (MS-1221). Intel (R) 965 Express Chipset Family . Current Latest Bios Version 1.5 It works perfectly. However, I want to program my screen to shut down after 2 minutes (either plugged to AC or battery mode). But it does not work. I've installed the drivers available online, at the MSI web site. Yet, the problem is not gone.
My Bios is Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG on a GIGABYTE GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 motherboard. i want to do this so i can have 2 or more of the same game up with a hack shield on it.
I got a virus (winupgro.exe). Afterwards, that program showed up in my task manager, but I was unable to end the process. I also got a notification that I would need to restart my computer in order to turn off UAC. Since I did not want to turn off UAC, I went back in, and turned the UAC back on. I then ran a virus scan with Norton. It didnt seem to find my virus, so I just shut down the computer.Winupgro.exe no longer shows up in task manager, but I cannot turn on Windows Security Center - getting the dialog box "The Windows Security Center service can't be started".Malwarebytes was able to find and remove it, but I still cannot open windows security center (after a restart).I used FreeCommander to run create md5 checksums. After searching the output file, I did not find any references to winupgro or its checksum string.
