"Play To" Function For Streaming Media Only Results In Errors
Feb 15, 2013
I'm trying to stream music and video files from my desktop computer to my home cinema receiver. Let's say I choose an mp3 file to play. I go to the folder and right-click on the file, then choose Play To. Both my TV ([TV]UE55ES6805) and my receiver (DENON:[AVR-3312]) are networked with a CAT6 cable to my router appear in the options. I click to play the file on my receiver. It then says "Please wait...contacting network device". The name of my receiver appears for a split second and then it immediately says "Device is not responding" and the file will not play. The same goes for the TV. If I go to my receiver and manually choose the mp3 file the networked devices menu (media server), it will play. The same with my TV. If I open Samsung AllShare on my desktop, all files will stream to either the TV or receiver. It is only this "Play To" function that won't work. The Network Map under Network and Sharing Center shows both devices on the network.
The funny thing is, I have a laptop also running Windows 7 and this same function on that works FLAWLESSLY. So I am going to assume it is not a problem with my HI-FI equipment, my router (Netgear R6300), Windows Firewall or my Avast! Antivirus software that is running on both computers. The function doesn't work when I disable both Windows Firewall and the antivirus on the desktop computer. I really need to figure this out and make it work from my desktop computer as all the media I want to stream is there, but I cannot figure it out after reading other posts about it on the internet or troubleshooting using the directions for a similar problem over at Microsoft support. I can use AllShare, but I find the interface cumbersome and it doesn't recognise track numbers so all the songs in an album get sorted alphabetically rather than by track.
I want to stream to my files to my PS3. My problem lies in that clicking the 'Turn on media streaming' button does not do anything. I've tried clearing the .wmdb files in the "%userprofile%Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMedia Player" folder, but it appears that WMP is not able to populate any of my files in its "Library" (I don't actually use WMP, I use Winamp).I had it working in the past but don't know what I have changed. Also, I am using HomeGroup as there are other units in the house on Win7.
What I would like to do is to be able to access all of my music and videos from my computer and external hard drive, on my Xbox, through my router. I am using the Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus and firewall, and no third party antivirus/antispyware or firewall programs.I have an Xbox 360 Elite, not one of the new wireless versions. I went into HomeGroup on my computer and checked 'share media with devices' and also checked music, pictures, and videos. So far I can play music on the Xbox by going to the music app and choosing my PC. The problem is, I can only play songs that are directly in the Music folder on my computer. And only certain songs at that, I'm not sure why. I have a subfolder within Music called Full Albums and I cannot play ANYthing in that subfolder. What am I missing? Also, is it possible to access music and videos on my external hard drive? Provided my external hard drive is connected to my computer of course.Lastly, I can't access anything unless I disable Windows Firewall. How do I set up an exception for the Xbox so that I don't have to disable the firewall every time I want to do this?
I have a home network setup and am running Windows 7 Pro on my main computer. I am trying to stream my media from this computer to other devices on the network and have successfully many times on this network, mainly to a Sony tv in the living room. I don't know when or what happened, but one day I tried to watch a video on my TV, and the Windows Media Server was unavailable.-Network is setup as a "Home" Network-I have Windows firewall turned off-Am running Norton 360 firewall instead of Windows firewall-Have reset Norton firewall to all the default settings (which I believe allows media sharing by default)-Have my libraries shared-But, here's the problem I believe- when I go to Windows Media Player to ensure Media streaming is enabled, a button says "Turn media streaming on", but when I press it, it grays out for a few seconds, like it is turing it on, but then dosen't change to "Turn media streaming off", nor do I get the button at the bottom to "Save" settings.I recently converted to a SSD drive for OS and seperate data drive in RAID0, so changed a regristry key to move the user files to another drive location (all programs and files open the way they should on the computer right now, and I believe media streamiing has worked since then.
Ive been trying to stream media from my computer to the PS3. So far my guess is that the reason it isnt working is because when I go to,Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsNetwork and Sharing CenterMedia streaming options, the pull down menu Show devices on: is on Local network and only shows only my PC. Whenever I change it to All networks I see the Unknown Device (I think this is the PS3). When I click OK it doesnt seem to keep the changes. When I reopen Choose media streaming options its back on Local network. We recently got a new router (Linksys E2500) and this issue seemed to start about then. It could have something to do with the router but Im wondering why these setting wont save for me. If I recall correctly, these settings saved when we used our old router. Just some other info that may be useful, my computer has a wired connection to the router and the PS3 is connecting wirelessly.

I've been using Windows 7 media streaming to my xbox for some time with no problems. However, I have just moved house, and have had to change my network setup as I have a new service provider. And now, the Xbox refuses to speak to the PC.They are both on the same network, using the same router, and I have changed nothing on the PC itself, except that when I first plugged the network cable in, Windows asked me to tell it which group to join (I selected Home). The xbox is happily detecting the network and the internet, but not the PC (although the PC name is still in the list under Video Apps, but when you select it it just says "Can not find PC".
An local station can be seen on W7 media player, but no sound comes thru. And the mute is not activated. All other internet radio stations can be heard. The radio station in question says it's link is working. The audio and video are working with other applications.
I had windows media player set up to be able to stream content(e.g. videos, music, picture etc) from my PC to my T-box.I havnt use this feature in a while and I went to use it last night but my tbox can not pick up my PC.When I go to windows media setting I go:Stream > Turn on media streaming > Then I get a pop up saying turn it on, with UAC logo next to it.I am admin on it so it should work. I click on it nothing happens. How can I get media player to stream again or how do I reset media player to default setting so I can set it up again
I just got an emacines 1360g to use on a 2nd tv. I want to stream from my main htpc with win 7 media center to it through media center. I had hoped that this machine would be good enough. Added a wireless n USB adapter other than that it is stock with only 2 gb of ram. I have the tv Hooked up via hdmi with 720p resolution. When I look at network drives through windows explorer, it seems to react fairly quickly. When I try to access movies list from media center, it takes forever (>10 mins) and doesn't bing all of them up. same with recorded tv or music or pictures. Is my problem that emachines pc needs more ram or do you think it could be wireless network connection or a setting. I have another laptop that streams great from my main htpc so I don't think it is network, especially since win explorer seems to work fairly quickly. Is it possible t get this system to do media center streaming?
I'm trying to stream music to other computers and media devices on the network. I have 2 x W7 PC and 2 x W7 laptop. Laptops can push music to other PCs and to media player, but PC's won't, although they can receive from laptop. When I select 'Play To' in Media Player, the dialog box does not appear - well is does for a split second then disappears. PCs are 64bit with IE9, laptops 32bit with IE9. All settings checked and the same. Laptops are wireless, PCs on ethernet.
I have what seems to be a strange problem with m USB ports. I am running Windows 7 64bit on a HP Pavilion dx5.
I was running Winamp listening to a streaming media file through my external speakers when i decided to plug in my usb headphones ti listen. However now WHENEVER I play ANY streaming media file through Winamp or WMP the audio gets directec to the USB headphones even though there are no headphones plugged in or not. If any music is then played with the same WMP or Winamp the audio gets directed to the speakers. Play the streamng media and the audio gets redireced to the USB.
For some strange reason I cannot get any streaming media to be released from the USB, and be direced BACK to the speakers as I desire. The USB seems to be STUCK on when trying to play steaming media.
I simply wan to be able to plug an then unplug the headphones and the sysem act as it should.
I see that there have been several posts about IDM, but none of them have answers for what I'm looking to do. There is no issue with IDM, just an annoyaIDM is great, I use it all the time. But I don't want it to handle all of my downloads. Sometimes, it doesn't work properly with certain sites (the ones that make you wait a certain amount of time before you can download the file), and it's during those times that I really hate IDM.What I want changed is for IDM to only intercept streaming files, not files I could otherwise download anyway (like programs, etc). Is there a way to make IDM only take in streaming files?
I can't get eithe WMP or MC to play a DVD. I've set the region code. WMP acts like it will play, but then just goes blank, and MC says it cannot play the DVD. These are original discs, not burned copies. I have a custom built system, with 2 graphics cards (GTX 260 and a GT 220) 6 GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When I press on Choose media streaming options on the [Control Panel Network and Internet Network and Sharing Center Advanced sharing Settings] Windows 7 explorer.exe won't respond and its closing it.
(Win 7 Pro 64-bit). On the "Choose Media Streaming Options for Computers and Devices" screen in the Network and Sharing center, where it shows devices on all networks, how do I get back devices that I remove from that list? I accidentally removed them and want to get them back.
i am getting a "server execution failed media player" error when trying to play avi's. i have seen a solution to this by stopping the windows media player network sharing service in the serivices tab, i have searched for this in the services list but no such service exists in the list. this problem has only just started recently so its very perplexing. any ideas?
I've got some CDs which I bought in the 80s and they are in excellent conditionHowever, WMP12 won't play them. They play slow and jittery. Ripping is out of the question too.
I don't know realy what's going on. Yesterday I was playing song and misic just stopped. I've tried to replay it but it didn't work. Also I've tried to play movie(avi) but it also failed. Just a minutes ago I downloaded codec and installed it. But guess what, same problem.Just one more thing: when I restart my PC I can play any file I want but just in first five minutes I'll go jump off a bridge. I mean unistall windows and get a linux. This wasn't a first time I have issues with windows 7
I can't seem to play DVD's using Windows Media player. I get this "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings." I thought maybe it was my video driver, however, I rolled it back and it still didn't work. I installed the K-Lite mega codec pack, but that didn't work. However, the Media Player Classic which got installed with the codec pack works, although I don't really like the program. VLC wasn't working either, however, I reinstalled that and it's working fine now. I'm just curious as to why my media player won't play dvd's. It's the program that I usually used to play DVD's.
I have bought a LITON (DS-6E2SH) blue ray player for my laptop and it is working fine in so much as it will play DVD's and CD's but I can't play blue ray disks because media player doesn't support them. Does anyone know whether there is any good software that will support their play back.
I've looked everywhere for someone that's had the same issue as me but haven't found anyone. I have been using windows media player happily on my computer for well over a year now. One day I added a video to my play list (as I had many times before) and it froze. Since then every time I open windows media player everything works smoothly and perfectly until I play a file. At that stage windows explorer freezes and if I leave it long enough it closes media player and resets explorer and runs very slowly until I restart my computer. How can I make it work again?
Out of nowhere, my Win7 x64 Home Professional has stopped playing .mpg files and certain website audio. The response is always "Server Execution Failed"for video files, or "Server Execution Failed
C:UsersJLSAppDataLocalTempplaylist.asx" for online streaming audio.
My experience level on this sort of thing is minimal, but I have tried removing media services (media player), rebooting, and re-installing with no success. FYI I just switched from Kaspersky to Avast, which I'm assuming should have nothing to do with my problem.
my computer keeps freezing. here is a video i recorded to show how it happens. i dunno how to explain what is actually happening. it happens often but depending on its mood. sometime its frequent sometimes its not.[url]computer crash - Internet the problem occurs when playing any type of media file whether its while playing video, music, or watching Internet or any other streaming.
i am using samsung LCD tv and it supports DLNA. I can play all the video files on my LCD tv through windows media player except .mkv format. It does play on pc and laptop but not on LCD tv. The TV does not even show .mkv files. Do i have to install something additional to play mkv files on my tv ?
