PS3 Not Detecting PC Media Server?

Oct 24, 2012

I no longer can stream media from my PC to my PS3. It used to work a couple of months ago and it still works with my dads computer. Both mine and my dads PC are windows 7. I've compared the settings between the two PC's and could see no difference. I've tried several different media server programs including vuze, ps3 media server and windows media player and none of them work.

I've made sure all the media streaming and advanced sharing settings are correct and the proper services are started and temporarily disabled windows firewall. As far as I can see its an underlining issue and not one on the surface.

PS3 Connecting To Media Server On PC

Apr 11, 2010

I am trying to connect PS3 to Media Server. I have already established a wireless connection for PS3 updates etc...but cannot connect to Media Center. The system recognizes my home PC network, I am able to go to all the Playstation sites etc.. but I keep getting the following error message when trying to share files from the PC:"Access to the Media Server is not allowed, it is possible that the system name for this PS3 system,", has not been registered." Check the settings for the Media Server."I have seen such as thing as a Media Center Extender referred to for the XBox 360, but not the PS3. Is there one? Do I have to purchase something else? I am trying to use the PS3 to access my PC for Picture and Music files.

Media Server Cant Find Ps3

Jul 11, 2012

So the other day we were trying to find some music on the computer through the ps3 which seems to be hit or miss some times, however the ps3 seems to find the two lap tops with no problem. So I went in to the "choose media streaming options for computers and devices" and removed the unknown devices thinking that like any other wireless or blue tooth, that they would be discoverable again and guess what..... they dont show up. This is extremely frustrating. So is there anyway to have this show up all the time on the ps3. Also we have playon and that doesn't always work either. I think that if I can get a more consistent connection between the two that play on will work as well.

Network Drive Mapping For DNS-320 Media Server

May 20, 2012

I recently brought a Dlink DNS-320 and have searched the relevant forums for that product but all the solutions for resolving a 'map network drive error' have been unsuccessful.I have tried mapping the drive on this product using the IP address and I can ping the IP address for this device, the device also appears on my network via UPnP but I unfortunately I get a error message when trying to map the network drive the DNs-320 also came with a storage utility to map drives but that doesn't work either.I have gone through previous posts and tested this without my firewall on or changing the TCP/IP settings.

Planning A Media Centre / Local Server

Oct 2, 2012

So, time to take a couple steps back and slow things down a bit here... I'm currently in the planning stages of a low-budget media centre / network storage setup and I'm hoping to glean some knowledge from some of you more experienced overclockers before I go wasting money on things I don't need. The reason I decided to post here and not in the general or media sub-forums is because of how I want to go about this. Part of my plan involves taking a decent spec system and underclock the **** out of it.... Or, at least just underclock it enough for a fanless setup. Firstly, the media centre itself is a low-cost project... So the obvious OS choice here is Linux. But, which one...? It doesn't need to have any fancy GUI or "user friendly" features. At boot, the OS itself will go straight into whichever media centre software I settle on (XBMC, MythBuntu, etc. etc.), with other services starting up silently in the background (nginx / Apache, MySQL, Samba, Webmin, etc. etc.).Everybody in my household are avid Android users (yay), so the box will most likely be controlled directly from our phones or tablets. I mean, seriously, can you name one true computer geek that wouldn't grin from ear to ear while they tell their friends how their TV remote is actually a 7" multitouch, dual-core, Android tablet...?

What sort of hardware would I need for this setup? Here's the first idea that comes to mind:1.4 to 1.8GHz dual core 1 to 2GB DDR2-PC6400 40 to 80GB OS drive Multiple 1 or 2TB 'green' drives Low profile GPU (s-video for now, HDMI can come later) Either completely fanless, or mostly fanless with a single 200mm fan at low speed for good airflow I may possibly build my own case from the ground up.I'm hoping to get this all running from the start with nothing larger than a 300w to 350w PSU if possible, perhaps even one of those funny L-shaped midget PSUs from an old Dell desktop? I'm sure many of you here are old enough to know which ones I'm talking about.. Heck, those things came with nothing more than a 40mm or 50mm fan if I remember correctly. What hardware would you guys use for a system like this? Fire away, I like constructive criticism.

Playing FLAC In WMP12 - How To Ensure Correct Version Of Media Server

Jan 1, 2012

I'm running Win 7 x64 with 32bit WMP12. I have FLAC showing with metadata and can play files locally. I have a Naim NDX Media Streamer and can not get FLAC to play through it via WMP - other files will. I understand that this may be connected to x64 not being compatible, so I have the x32 version running via a short cut to my desktop.WMP shows my streamer but when I try to play a file it just constantly looks for the streamer and never finds it. Any ideas where I might be going wrong?

PS: It works perfectly well with JRiver / My River or n Stream via my ipad. That with FLAC or .wav etc. So it appears to be related directly to WMP.

Windows 7 Media Player Either Says Server Execution Failed Or Skips And Games Also Skip?

Aug 31, 2012

I'm having such a huge problem right now. I don't know what to do... I'm using windows 7 64 bit and when i play my games the game would litterally skip... kind of like having frame skip on the highest then playing a game.. Also, windows media player would either do one of the following:1. video skips and no audio plays2. Server execution failed3. The video will play for like 5 seconds then says it cant play the file..Also when i try to run the windows experience index it will get the video decoding and it will say that it can't complete it for some reason. I've tried reinstalling windows and it just kept happeningI've tried doing everything to repair WMP and then it would work until i reboot again. even when i dont repair it i have to reboot then it would be fine.

Windows 2008 Server Or Linux For Server

Oct 16, 2009

Have been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / Windows 7 mix) and file / print sharing.

I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.

(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).

The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.

I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".

I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.

It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).

I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.

Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it.

This guy does a great job at this .

Convert your Windows Server 2008 R2 to a Workstation! - Multiboot Installation

Windows 7 VM's run just fine on W2008 server (they should as there is a lot of common code).

Change Default Media Player / Icons On Media Files Not Changed

Nov 28, 2012

I have VLC Portable as the default program for opening some video files, like .mp4 and .avi. And I have Foobar (portable) as the default program for .mp3.Usually the icons on .mp4, .avi, .mp3 files get updated with the icons of the assigned media players. But on this PC it's not working. They're still the same icons as if WMP was the default player.Does it have to do with the Standard user account? (Because on other PCs I run from an Admin account and I don't have such problems.)

How To Make Windows Media Player Stop Updating Media Every Freaking Time Start It Up

Dec 22, 2010

How can I make Windows Media Player stop updating media every freaking time I start it up? It always hogs up massive amount of CPU power and goes into (Not Responding) for a min while updating.I only add media files to the Windows Explorer Library so I can get indexed searches. I don't even use WMP to view files or anything. Just to burn some music CDs sometimes.I've tried deleting the files from the WMP library but the next time I open it up, it scans and updates all my files again! Is there a way to completely purge the WMP library and make it not update ever? I've unchecked every option that seems to make it scan and update but it still does it.Basically I want to UNLINK the Windows Explorer Library from the WMP Library.

Use 64bit Media Center With 32bit Media Player?

Jul 25, 2011

I'm in grave problem here. I just installed windows 7 x64 a few days back. And initially I installed the 32bit version of k-lite codec pack for my windows media player. The media center worked fine then. It was loading my ffdshow and ac3filter along as I checked it.But then yesterday I noticed that the same pop-up od recommended/express install of WMP came again. Initially I thought that it must be some bug or something, but then when my MKV and AVI files didn't work in WMC, I realized that somehow WMP x64 got triggered, and now it is using the x64 bit of WMP in WMC. And I just wanna revert back to 32-bit WMP in WMC.

Win 7 Not Detecting Monitor

May 28, 2009

Ok, I have run out of ideas on this..My setup is Windows 7 64, P35 chipset, 4g ddr2,Evga 8600GT dual dvi with dvi to vga converter s-video out, Q6600, 160g pata hdd and a Gateway EV700 (17").

I cannot get Windows 7 to show the desktop, or detect the monitor. I have an LCD TV hooked to the S-video connector and that is the only way I can see the desktop.

The main monitor will show everything up to the point of showing the desktop..that is where the mon goes blank and I have to look at the TV.

Someone suggested I try XP driver for the monitor, but it will not install and just gives a dialog saying that winxp and above already has the drivers nessesary.

I have tried the Windows 7 64 drivers from MS update, Nvidia, and EVGA (both Windows 7 and Vista 64 drivers).

I have tried both monitor outputs. nothing.

I have a KVM which was not an issue for XP, but I am not sure about Windows 7.

Taking out the KVM is my last resort, as I am running out of ideas.

I also tried using an old Diamond Stealth PCI card to no avail....It wouldn't even post with it.

If I had a VGA to S-video converter, I would try that, but for now, I am stuck trying to use Windows 7 on a tv screen that is only 12".

At 1024x768 it's not much fun trying to read anything on it.

I forgot to add that the Nvidia ctrl panel does not show multi display menu.

I have the drivers for them but how can i install them if Win 7 wont pick them up? they dont appear in the device manager at all. Win XP had no problem at all with this. Is it possible that they hardware is to old to be recognised by windows 7? i dont have the XP software to switch back so hopefully ill be able to fix this with assistance.

Windows 7 Not Detecting HDD

Jun 14, 2012

My brother was trying to restore his friends laptop and during the process the power got disconnected and the C Drive got wiped--I believe. I decided to fix it I would do a fresh install of Windows 7.

Everything was going great and I got the recovery disk to install, but my problem was the Hard drive wasn't showing up as unallocated disk space. The drive did show up, but not as any free space. I tried to do some tutorials in diskpart to fix the drive, but to no avail.

Now, I can't even get windows, or BIOS to detect the drive. The last diskpart command I did was to reformat it. It wasn't the quick reformat, but the one that takes an extremely long time. That's when I noticed it wasn't detecting anymore.

Here's some pics of what I'm seeing:
