PC Games Running Choppy?

Jun 4, 2012

i have the following PC configuration for about 1 year:

AMD Athlon x3 450
ATI HD 5670
MB Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-S2
Sirtec ATX-410-212
Win 7 32 bit Home Premium
Kaspersky antivirus
SiliconPower DDR3 4 GB

I have a rather peculiar problem with my Desktop PC.The problem appeared a couple of months ago, while I was playing Skyrim. It started to lag pretty badly, even on the lowest settings. I would have understood if it was lagging from the beginning, probably my pc couldn't handle the game, but the strange thing is that it was working just fine before, no lag, constant fps (above 30 on medium settings), now its like 15-20 fps. I think "choppy" is the perfect word to describe my gaming experience for the last months. I mean it's not that "game-breaking" lag that completely ruins your experience but enough to annoy you.I have this problem with all of my other games too, games that worked perfectly before. I'm pretty pissed off right now, I've tried dusting my pc, scanning for viruses, updating my Windows, changing my ram, updating my drivers, defragging; I've also tryed replacing my psu with a higher power one, but didn't change anything.

Some symptoms that I thought were important (and weird):

-It does not lag in multiplayer, only in single player.

-Ive tried pulling out the ram stick and putting it back in and for about 5-10 minutes it worked perfectly but then it started to lag again.

-It starts to lag after some time after the install, in the first couple of minutes it works ok but then it lags every time I run it.The temperatures are fine, the graphic card does not pass 60* and my cpu stays at around 40-50* (in game).

Choppy Movement In Games?

Aug 22, 2012

I having been having this issue for a while and I find that most people do not understand what I am trying to describe. The issue is when trying to move or look around in games like Skyrim everything appears jerky. Or anytime the view field pans. If the view field is still everything in the view field run smooth as silk with no jumping/choppiness. It feels almost like the game is loading or I am having .2-.5 seconds of lag. This really puts a damper on any game that I am trying to play. This issue happens in almost every game I play. It occurs in Skyrim, Diablo 3, Magicka, and even older games like the original never winter nights.

Games Choppy With More Than Enough Computing Power

Apr 4, 2012

I have dual core 2.5 processors, a Nvidia 9500 GT, and a Sata hard drive all running on windows 7 32 bit. I know this is no where near a top of the line setup but it is choppy running 4 year old games! I almost double the recommended, not minimum, hardware requirements for "The Witcher" the game I am trying to get to play smoothly and yet it is still choppy. If I lower the settings completely it is playable but still not where it should be. I have updated my video drivers, cleaned my registry, reinstalled the game, scanned for viruses, using AVG free, and defragged my hard drive. From here I don't even know where to go. I left task manager running last time to see if my processors were maxing while playing and they hit around 80% and my ram peaked to about 70%.

Computer Acting Choppy And Sluggish After Closing Games

Aug 28, 2012

As of maybe a month or two ago my computer has been acting rather strange. The first thing I noticed is that now whenever I need to restart my computer (for updates, ect.) the screen will flash for a few seconds, return to normal, flash for another second or two, and then properly restart. Then a few weeks after that, I noticed my computer having trouble when I play games on my comp (I built my comp originally as a gaming rig).

After exiting games like Minecraft, Red Orchestra 2, Total War, or any of the other games I play, my computer will act sluggish for a few minutes after they close. It generally takes a minute or two until my comp seems to be back up to speed. Another thing is that my computer seems to have a difficult time closing my games, especially Red Orchestra 2. When I exit RO2 my comp will sit there at the game screen as if its frozen (I can't move my mouse or anything) and then finally exit the game.

Then, after exiting the game my comp screen will be all distorted and it will take another 10 seconds or so for the screen to return to normal. RO2 is definitely the worst when it comes to closing, all of the other games for the most part close fine, but my comp will still perform slowly after I exit any game. Normally, after I exited a game I could jump right in to my browser, start menu, or any other app if I wanted to.

Games Are Running Very Slow ?

Sep 23, 2012

I'm not too familiar with windows as I've been using mac for several years. I bought a windows computer to play games with. Mainly World of Warcraft.

I've managed to play WoW with high settings until a couple of days ago, then I noticed that the game is running very very slow no matter what settings I'm using. So I figured I might have a virus. And searched through countless websites about how to restore windows.I found out that my samsung laptop had a program called samsung recovery solution 5. So I clicked to get a full restore.I later found out that it only restored the C drive and not the D drive as well. I had WoW installed on D drive, so I figured I should check if it made any difference. Loaded up WoW and I could play smoothly. After about 10 minutes it started lagging again and was unplayable.World of Warcraft is not the only game that runs slow. Minecraft, Assassins Creed and pretty much all of my games are running slow after a couple of minutes. Now I'm starting to wonder if it is the computer itself which makes the games run so slowly. My computer is getting very warm after just a couple of minutes of gaming and I've read that it might slow down the computer performance.

Intel i5 2,3GHz (2,7GHz with the built-in turbo boost)

Running Old Games In Windows 7?

Apr 19, 2010

I'm not talking about DOSbox (which is a pain to figure out), but about games that were made with windows 95/98 in mind.I was thinking about installing Virtual PC, but the 2007 version does not seem to run those OS. Is the 2004 version compatible with Win 7?For those of you that are curious, I'm trying to play Heavy Gear, the Magic Carpet series, the Popolous series, AOE I and II and their respective expansions and Space Clash.AOE kinda runs in Win 7 using compatibility mode, but the colors are messed up.So please don't suggest using that feature because I already tried, I'm determined in running a virtual machine or an emulator.

BSOD Playing Battlefield 3 As Well As Games Stops Running?

Nov 6, 2011

playing battlefield 3 i've experienced both bsod and the program to stop running. when the bsod occurs the screen blacks out then the video comes back but the image is made out of a bunch of lines like the video split up and moved around. then the bluescreen comes up. (not sure how else to explain how it looks). theres also a deep beap sound that plays sometimes as well.

i've also experienced an issue with other games, most recently europa universalis 3 where the game stops running as well. sometimes the game runs fine without crash and i've played for 3 - 4 hours on two different occasions but the play after only lasts a few minutes. my drivers are all up to date so i don't think they are the issue.just now i ran a program through the action center that i guess looked for solutions to problems and every problem that showed up is a "video hardware error"

wd-20111101-2241-02.dmp
sysdata.xml
werinternalmetadata.xml

my pc specs:

mobo - gigabyte - ga-990fxa-ud5
cpu - amd phenom ii x6 1100t 3.3ghz
ram - 8192 gb g.skill snipers
gpu - amd sapphire hd 6970 2gb
psu - 850w corsair
windows 7 home edition 64x

i read somewhere that audio drivers could cause issues. i have high definition audio as well as the realtek audio driver.i don't know if i should upload those files that the problem report reported so don't know. i've also been formatting videos for Internet and running my cpu at 85% so i don't think its the cpu overheating like i've heard can happen.

Running Windows XP Games In Windows 7?

Sep 28, 2012

I like to play the games that come with Windows (Solitaire, Hearts, FreeCell, etc.). The first time I tried to play them on my Win 7 laptop, I was appalled at how M$ had utterly/completely destroyed the playability of the games with fancy cards that were hard to decipher, very slow play, and restrictions to the way right-clicks used to work. I have to believe there are lots of others who feel the same way. It wasn't until the HD on my XP desktop died and I had to use the laptop for everything that I discovered that it's possible to use XP-style games on a Win 7 computer without having to resort to XP mode. Simply go to C:Windowssystem32 on an XP computer and copy the game files (cards.dll, freecell.dll, mshearts.dll, sol.exe, spider.chm, spider.exe and winmine.exe) to a jump drive, create a new folder on your Win 7 computer, paste the files into it and create shortcuts to them on your desktop.

Choppy Sports Playback On MC

I have tried the pre-release WDDM 1.1 drivers as well as the most recent Vista drivers from Intel. Both exhibit the same issue. The Vista drivers were slightly better but still difficult to watch.

I did not have this problem in Vista and regular TV shows are fine. Any advice?
