Computer Get Extremely Hot When Games Are Running
Oct 21, 2012
Recently my friend replaced his GPU on his relatively old computer. As soon as he did this his computer started to get extremely hot every time he starts a game. His motherboard idles at a consistent 61 C, his CPU runs at 60-70 or more when he is in game, and his GPU runs at 60-100 when he is in game. Is there anything he can do to fix these heat issues? I know nothing about fans or cases. Specs are as follows (temperatures shown are idle):

I have an Acer Inspire 5736Z laptop which I mostly use for browsing the internet and playing some games. It still has 100gb free on the hard drive, and 3gb of ram. I have had it about 10 months. Yesterday a game I was playing crashed, and around the same time a Spybot pop-up appeared which said:
Category: Session manager
Change: Value deleted
Entry: BootExecute
Old data: autocheck autochk *
New data: [greyed out]
I was unable to click Allow Change or Deny Change because the laptop had frozen. I waited several minutes and tried to shut the game down using Task Manager processes, but nothing worked. In the end I shut it down by holding down the power button. When I restarted the laptop was going extremely slowly. I'm talking 5-10 minutes to open a blank Notepad. I don't know if it's to do with the Spybot message or if I damaged something by restarting in that way. This is what I have done so far. It is all guesswork on my part so I don't know if it was pointless:
- Started in safe mode. Everything runs very quickly. I started up my usual background programs one by one: Avast, Spybot, ZoneAlarm, iTunes, Audible download manager and OpenOffice. It still ran quickly.
- Ran CCleaner and deleted unncessary files, but it only amounted to about 400mb.
- Performed an Avast scan. Came up clean.
- Performed a Spybot scan. It reached the end and then froze before showing the results.
- Tried to use Spyboy's recovery but I think the CCleaner deleted those files because there was no recovery data :/
- Uninstalled the game that crashed, and other programs that I no longer use.
- Started again in normal mode, still going painfully slow there.

My computer started running really slow and sticking while running videos and playing games. I looked at the processes on the task bar and I have 13 svchost running ...is that normal? What do I really need to have running? I have so many things on there like something called toaster.exe32. I've cleared the cache and cookies..and used CCleaner. I thought maybe stopping some of the processes would help.

My computer freezes every five minutes or so while playing games or running Firefox. It's been doing this for the last 6 months and most of the time it freezes for a few minutes then runs fine for a while. Then it freezes again. Eventually I have to hard reboot.

I have win 7 x64 on my laptop and it has been running fantastic for several weeks now. But all of the sudden it has just become unbareably slow and unmost completly unresponsive. I can hardly do anything on it it is so slow. It is not my laptop, which is still quite new and fairly fast. I have 32bit on my desktop which is much older and it runs fine. The only recent changes I have made is installing the latest updates for office 2007, and installing PS3media server with Java runtime. I can boot to safe mode and it runs fine and is not slow at all. I tried to restore to the restore point before installing office 2007 updates but it fails to complete. I was able to uninstall Java after taking almost an hour to open control panel and everything. Now i am trying to completly uninstall office to see if that fixes it, but I have a feeling it will take all day or more. This is the second time it has done this, both times I installed win 7 it ran really great for a few weeks than its just dead like it hit a brick wall.

This problem has come back several times after reformatting. When opening or closing a window, the animations that would take miliseconds suddenly take 10 seconds. I can see the program running perfectly fine as it loads, but I am unable to interact with it. I then go into some games like Civilization 5 or Recettear and the animations that would be quick take about 10 times as long to execute. This did not become an issue until Mid May, and Reformatting delays the bug from coming back. the only recent additions in hardware are a replacement motherboard(old one broke, ram difficulties), and a new CPU fan. Flash videos also work just fine
I am running the following:
Intel Core i5
ATI 5870
8gb RAM
60gb SSD
500gb HDD
ASROCK P55 Pro
650 PSU

I've been putting my first build together and completed it a couple of days ago. I was using it, but realized I had accidentally installed a 32bit version rather then the 64bit of windows 7 and as a result my ram was being under utilized. I double checked my cpu and installed the 64bit version of windows, but know that I have everything reinstalled, the windows updates seemed to be taking forever, and the computer is acting very slow and unresponsive, it ran much better using the 32bit version of windows.I'm at wits end, as the two set ups were practically identical, aside from the 32/64 change.

For example, whenever I open my webbrowser (Google) to search for something, it takes an exteremly long time, if at all, to respond. I've tried doing a disk cleanup and even ran Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware to check for virusus...Nothing!

I'm just installed windows 7 on my 2009 imac through bootcamp. However there are some problems. Ive noticed when i try to play something on windows media player it will tell me that my computer is running low on memory and to close some windows. Also games run poorly if at all. I suspect its a driver issue but have gone through all the auto updates etc.

My computer has been running slow for months, but it is now getting to the point where it is almost unbearable. For example, just clicking on a folder to open it can take up to 15 seconds to respond. It also lags a ton during internet browsing.

my computer has been extremely slow. I tried uninstalling programs, rebooting, updating, shutting down processes and basically a lot of stuff. I think thee first time it started being slow was after a windows error recovery. Since then I have had about 3 more error recoveries, and from what I can remember it showed a black screen stating that "the system has been shut down to prevent damage" or something like that. Another thing I can remember was it saying something like "pool error".I'm usually patient with my computer and just wait for it to load, even though the computer shouldn't take this long to do anything considering that it's a pretty good computer and still not very old. But now I can't take it anymore! It's unbelievably slow and I am VERY lucky just to be able to use the internet and type this post right now.I originally thought there was a problem with my browser (Google Chrome) so I tried using rockmelt instead because I liked the chrome interface. Rockmelt actually worked better than Chrome for a while but then started being almost as slow, plus, changing browsers isn't gonna fix all the programs, they were just as slow too.

I can be away from the computer with no programs running besides the start up (which is just basic functions, kaspersky, and skype) and come back and the computer will respond like normal, except everything will jump around and take about 1/4th of a second for the mouse to move properly where I try to move it, if I am talking to anyone on skype their voices get chopped.

Starting a couple weeks ago, my computer started bogging down most of the time. When this happens, the CPU usage is almost always at 100% according to the CPU monitor in the Task Manager. Sometimes it gets to the point where I can't even type a web address because I can only type one character every 3 or 4 seconds.I have tried scanning for malware with Spybot. It found a few things but nothing that wasn't coded "green". I changed my antivirus software from MSE to Avast. No real difference. I even tried installing Linux (using the Windows install program), hoping that would at least give me faster Internet access. But that got bogged down pretty much the same as Windows does, so I'm assuming it's a hardware issue of some kind.I have Windows 7 with SP1, 500GB hard drive, 2GB RAM.It's a home built computer so there's no brand or model number. I have an ECS 945P-A motherboard with a Celeron 3.3GHz CPU.

I've discovered an odd issue with my computer. When there is no internet connection, it goes extremely slow. Simple programs such as VLC and ACDSee took something like 10 seconds to open. These programs are also installed on an SSD which makes these figures even worse than they would normally seem. Anyway I figured it was an issue I could fix with a reboot, however when windows was starting up, at the point where the desktop would finally appear, black screen. I can ctrl+alt+del to open task manager and I could see that there were 6 processes open, and nothing else was continuing to load. Safe mode with networking suffered the same problems.
At some point I disconnect the computer from the router, intuition I guess, and viola! Everything starts loading fine within 10s of disconnecting it from the router. I restarted multiple times with it disconnected, connected, disconnecting after few mins of black screen to confirm that it was the issue, and it indeed is. Same thing happened with Safemode with networking. Disabling the NIC seems to fix the issue as well. And of course when the internet came back on, it works perfectly fine.

I'm having a problem with my computer I am running two operating systems on my computer. Windows 7 on a sata hard drive, and windows XP on an ide drive. my problem is that my hard drive light flashes constantly about once per secondm, and the computer is running slow, ( solitare is slugish and jumpy). I've been on a malware site discussion board, and determened that my system is clean.i've been reviewing some other discussion boards and a couple of them mention about problems with cd/ dvd drives cauing this problem . i've turned auto insert notiyication off on both of my drives, but the light still flashes. I disconnected the data cable from my cdrom and dvd drives and the problem is gone. reconnect them and the problem returns. I don't want to burn up my new hard drive

i have the following PC configuration for about 1 year:
AMD Athlon x3 450
ATI HD 5670
MB Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-S2
Sirtec ATX-410-212
Win 7 32 bit Home Premium
Kaspersky antivirus
SiliconPower DDR3 4 GB
I have a rather peculiar problem with my Desktop PC.The problem appeared a couple of months ago, while I was playing Skyrim. It started to lag pretty badly, even on the lowest settings. I would have understood if it was lagging from the beginning, probably my pc couldn't handle the game, but the strange thing is that it was working just fine before, no lag, constant fps (above 30 on medium settings), now its like 15-20 fps. I think "choppy" is the perfect word to describe my gaming experience for the last months. I mean it's not that "game-breaking" lag that completely ruins your experience but enough to annoy you.I have this problem with all of my other games too, games that worked perfectly before. I'm pretty pissed off right now, I've tried dusting my pc, scanning for viruses, updating my Windows, changing my ram, updating my drivers, defragging; I've also tryed replacing my psu with a higher power one, but didn't change anything.
Some symptoms that I thought were important (and weird):
-It does not lag in multiplayer, only in single player.
-Ive tried pulling out the ram stick and putting it back in and for about 5-10 minutes it worked perfectly but then it started to lag again.
-It starts to lag after some time after the install, in the first couple of minutes it works ok but then it lags every time I run it.The temperatures are fine, the graphic card does not pass 60* and my cpu stays at around 40-50* (in game).

I'm not too familiar with windows as I've been using mac for several years. I bought a windows computer to play games with. Mainly World of Warcraft.
I've managed to play WoW with high settings until a couple of days ago, then I noticed that the game is running very very slow no matter what settings I'm using. So I figured I might have a virus. And searched through countless websites about how to restore windows.I found out that my samsung laptop had a program called samsung recovery solution 5. So I clicked to get a full restore.I later found out that it only restored the C drive and not the D drive as well. I had WoW installed on D drive, so I figured I should check if it made any difference. Loaded up WoW and I could play smoothly. After about 10 minutes it started lagging again and was unplayable.World of Warcraft is not the only game that runs slow. Minecraft, Assassins Creed and pretty much all of my games are running slow after a couple of minutes. Now I'm starting to wonder if it is the computer itself which makes the games run so slowly. My computer is getting very warm after just a couple of minutes of gaming and I've read that it might slow down the computer performance.
Specs:
Intel i5 2,3GHz (2,7GHz with the built-in turbo boost)
4GB ram
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M

I'm not talking about DOSbox (which is a pain to figure out), but about games that were made with windows 95/98 in mind.I was thinking about installing Virtual PC, but the 2007 version does not seem to run those OS. Is the 2004 version compatible with Win 7?For those of you that are curious, I'm trying to play Heavy Gear, the Magic Carpet series, the Popolous series, AOE I and II and their respective expansions and Space Clash.AOE kinda runs in Win 7 using compatibility mode, but the colors are messed up.So please don't suggest using that feature because I already tried, I'm determined in running a virtual machine or an emulator.

anyhow my problem is,i am using doom3 and on MS compatibility site it says, that it is compatible with windows7 but it does not run in full screen,it always runs in short mode, from vertical angle it runs in full length but in horizantal,it leaves border on both left and right side, almost an inch.
i searched for it lots and found that i must check my intel vga main settings panel to allow it use full screen which i have attached with, the screenshot.it is using full screen mode, but it is not using full screen,
i installed vista on my drive D.and in it,it used full screen resolution.
