View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having difficulty opening some topics in the Control Panel. I have Windows 7 64 bit os. For example, when I click on Network and Sharing Center, there is no response. When I click on Device and printer, there is no response. When I click on display, I can open the Display window. Prior to that I uninstall a Monitor software, MaxiVista Ver. 4.0, and when I tried to reinstall it, it will not reinstall. I am not sure whether this is a related event. I tried to open Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore, and it will not open.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt's not in my control panel, I've reinstalled drivers 3 times from 3 different places, I looked in the Realtek folder for an exe that I'm pretty sure is called RAVCpl64 and found nothing. I found the aforementioned exe in my driverstore folder, but when I run it, nothing happened. I forgot to mention I'm running Win7x64, and am using a custom built PC with an Asus M4A77TD board.

How can I cleanup/delete all these useless entries? How can I delete ONE single entry manually?
Second question: Assume I want to hide icons and notification for mutiple/all entries (here approx 40 items) in ONE STEP.
Third question: How can I save/backup the current notification settings (for later restore) into a file? Are these notifcation settings stored in a certain branch of the Registry (which exactly) ?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 5741 running W7, all ok until few days ago.Now disc seems to be always busy doing something, and all actions slower and the busy rotating circle is often displayed.Control Panel opens but most CP links do not now respond eg View devices, uninstall a program. Some applications briefly open (via their desktop shortcut) but then their window auto closes and they disappear, eg Open Office, firefox, IE8, Fastone (with mssg has stopped working), Advanced System Care (ditto), FinePix (ditto). These appns do not appear in Task Manager either. Have tried access via wifi and direct connect but same results and even tried Firefox in Safe mode.Other appns are still however ok eg Adobe, Avast, Task Mgr, Crap Cleaner, Threatfire, Free Commander, Photocopier, Windows Defender.I have rolled back W7 to before when problem started but no improvement. It seems to me that its a W7 problem rather than the appns

I have one other strange problem If I navigate backwards and forwards a few times in control panel windows explorer stops working. I'm just still trying to get used to the fact I have no classic view in control panel.
If I rename audio devices by the method indicated below, will there be any negative repercussions? I would assume that programs don't use those names to identify devices, but I want to double check.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently had a virus-esque program on my computer called win 7 home security 2011. It was a fake anti-virus program that was telling me I had viruses in an attempt to get me to buy their fake product. Anyway, the program is now history but I am encountering more problems that may or may not be a side effect of the virus. When I try to open an application I get an error giving the file location of the application followed by the message "Application not found". I can get around this and open the application by following the file location given by the error message and opening it. It then forces me to choose which program to open it with, in which case I need to tell it to open it with itself...
This is very irritating and in many cases makes opening applications close to impossible. When I'm choosing the program to open it with, it won't allow me to check the box telling it to set the program as the default. Is there any way to solve this issue short of completely re-installing windows 7?
