How Many HDD Run Off Powered HUB

Oct 23, 2011

im making myself a sort of NAS box, but without the NAS for now lolI will be mounting 4 3.5" HDD's in a hot swap box im making, and converting them to usb. For backing up purposes, without RAID.Instead of having 4 usb cables coming out, i though about building a powered usb hub inside, and having just the one cable come out.

Getting Sound To Come Through Powered Speakers?

Oct 20, 2012

I'm having problems getting sound to come throughf my powered speakers.I wiped the 32 bit XP OS and clean installed 64 bit Windows 7 Professional on my HP DC7800 cmt. I also installed an "HIS H675F1GD Radeon HD 6750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity" (long title!) and powered it with a FSP BOOSTER X5 450W front bay power supply. I connected an ASUS VH242H RT monitor to the video card via an HDMI cable, and although the sound comes through the lousy speakers on the monitor, it will not come through the green audio out port on the back of the computer, which I have connected to a couple of powered speakers. When I look in the control panel playback tab, the only device listed is the monitor, so I can't even select speakers to change them to default. I restarted the computer after plugging them in and I've looked all around and read of problems with Vpro (whatever that is) and sound. I eventually searched for audio drivers in the search function of the start menu and nothing came up. So, I looked online and there appear to be two different kinds of drivers: "Adi ac97 integrated digital audio driver for windows 7" and the Realtek HD audio driver. I don't know which one of these I should try, and I am further wondering of two different "PC issue warnings" I am receiving are not part of the problem, namely "my version of Intel active Management Technology is not compatible with this version of Windows" and there are "no drivers found" for the PCI serial port and the "PCI Simple Communications Controller."

Powered Off During Windows 7 Restart After Update

Mar 18, 2012

I have a 2-yr old Alienware Aurora. This AM, following a Win 7 update & restart, I powered off the system before the update was complete (the Alienware splash screen covers up Win info on startup). Now, the machine will start, but goes no further. I cannot boot into Bios or any of the system files. The machine also does not recognize the original OS disk, so I can't even do a reinstall. No keyboard commands are functional at this point.

USB Powered Hard Drive Enclosures?

Mar 9, 2011

I have a Sabrent 2.5" hard drive enclosure SBT-EKU25 that I am trying to use with USB on a Windows 7 laptop. The drive works but stops doing anything for several minutes at a time. There are no error messages, it just stops... no flashing or steady light. A minute or two later it picks up where it left off as though nothing has happened. It will then run fine again for several seconds and then it goes back to "sleep". I am trying to use the drive to backup files and it spends more time sleeping than doing anything else. The drive enclosure does not come with any drivers and is supposed to be plug and play. I have checked the USB drivers and Windows says they are up to date. I have installed a 60Gb hard drive from an old laptop in it.If i plug the the drive into the USB port on my Windows XP desktop it works fine.

USB Devices Stop Responding While Still Powered.

Aug 6, 2012

I am using Windows 7 64bit and M/B Gigabyte p67A D3-B3 (1155/ P67/ DD3). The problem happens randomly (I haven't managed to nail down a pattern when it happens or replicate it). Let's say it happens when running full-screen applications (games n stuff)Without warning everything that's connected through a USB stops working. Mouse and Keyboard are in usb 3 slots (and are compatible) and headset in usb2 port. The devices are powered still normally and the computer still functions (for example, game of LoL still continues normally, I can see what other players do or type etc etc, but the usb devices are unresponsive - though powered)

Self-Powered External Storage Not Recognized/randomly Disconnecting

Mar 16, 2012

I have a 1TB external storage drive that uses its own power supply and connects to my laptop via USB 2.0 cable. For months I've had absolutely no problem out of the device, until the computer randomly decided to forget the device was plugged in. Now I'm lucky to get the device to be recognized by the computer at all, and when it is recognized, if I try to move anything to/from the device, the connection is immediately severed from the computer.I use this device for my backup as well as holding on to things I would rather not get rid of. All my drivers are up to date, I've done all the Power Management checking and unchecking that I've read from other threads found via Google search, and still it won't work correctly for me.

Sony Vaio Powered Down In Middle Of Service Pack Update

Mar 15, 2012

I have a Sony Vaio laptop, maybe 2-2.5 years old. I let it install the updates earlier this afternoon and it needed to restart to finalize everything. I did not have it plugged up but thought there was plenty of battery life so I let it restart and went to do a couple things around the house. I was only gone 10-15 minutes but when I got back it was dead.

So I plugged it up and tried to power it back up. The VAIO screen comes up and then it goes straight to a black screen with a little blinking dash mark in the top left corner. The dash moves down 2 or 3 lines and then just sits there and blinks. I cannot get the computer to do anything else.

Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device / Insert Boot Media In Selected Boot Device

Dec 1, 2012

I am having a problem starting my PC! I have to start it in the boot menu under the RAID option. If I do not do this a message saying "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.." comes up, and just keeps popping up regardless of what I press! I would try using my boot disk but for the life of me I can't find it, and as windows 7 was already installed on this computer when we got it 3 year ago, I can't accurately recall if it came with one!I am no expert on BIOS, but I have read other problems similar to this one, and know that if I don't have the boot disk or the OS disk, I will need to know that at least.I am curious if the (Hard drive) is the issue. The BIOS tells me that anything in parentheses is disabled from corresponding type menu.

"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"It's a brand new box just built last week but no warranty and I would not even know what part to replace if it's hardware related.I've attached a Hijackthis to the post if it helps but I don't think it's virus related at all.

"Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media In Selected Boot Device And Press A Key"

May 13, 2012

When left alone..."Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"I have a new(ish) cpu that I bought last Christmas, it works great and it has not crashed on me whenever I am using it. However, when I leave it on overnight (usually when it is downloading something big), when I wake up in the morning I am greeted with a black screen with the words:"Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"When this happens I simply press the power button a few seconds to turn it off, then turn it on again and it boots normally. (pressing a key only results in the message being repeated)What infuriates me is that it only ever happens when I leave it on overnight so I don't know when and how exactly it occurs but it almost always does. Like I said earler, it never does this when I am using it as it works fine otherwise. It just won't stay on overnight when I need it to.

System info:
Windows 7 ultimate x64 (full retail, installed once from scratch)

Can't Boot, Boot Into Safe Mode Or Boot From Dvd?

Dec 27, 2011

So I have been trying to get my computer running for a few days now. At first it wasn't booting at all, it would be a black screen with a blinking cursor. I have cleared cmos a few times, turned psu off, drained charge from psu, turned psu back on and got it working that way for about 10 minutes, then it crashed. Ever since then I can't get it to get running again. I think it says something about "fatal error" and then goes on telling me to boot into safe mode to remove any new hardware. Is it a hardware problem I'm having? If so, I'm screwed, too broke The best I can get is the screen where it says run windows normally or run in safe mode. But it will just crash on either option I pick. And when I try to run from the dvd drive with my windows 7 disc it's just a black screen with a blinking cursor. I'm not sure what to do...ugh I feel like it's something really simple to fix. I left my computer sitting for a few months and havn't tried to boot it until recently, so I don't remember if I put any updates on it or not.

Whenever Boot Up Computer It Shows Advent Logo-screen / Where Can Access Boot Menu

May 7, 2012

I am running an Advent desktop PC and its stats are as follows; Intel Core i5-2310 CPU @ 2.90GHz 8GB RAM Win 7 64 bit.The problem I am having is when ever i boot up the computer it shows the Advent logo-screen where I can access the boot menu etc but then it goes to a black screen with a cursor/underscore flashing in the top left... This screen stays for quite a while and I am not sure if it stops because of a key I have pressed or just because it has run its course but after it disappears the computer goes back to the logo-screen for a moment and proceeds to boot up as normal except slightly slower than usual. It is a relatively new computer and it has no problems running at all once the boot up is complete it is fast and as friendly as ever.

Cannot Boot Into Windows 7 / File /boot/BCD Is Missing With An Error Code Of 0x0000007

Mar 26, 2011

I cannot boot into Windows because it says that the file /boot/BCD is missing with an error code of 0x0000007. If I run Repair from my installation disk and in System Recovery Options, it says that it has detected problems and asks if I want to repair it. The items it wants to repair are: " The following startup option will be repaired:Name: {bootmgr}Identifier: {9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795}

The following startup options will be added:

Name: Windows 7 Ultimate (recovered)
Path: Windows
Windows Device: Partition=C: (476938MB)
Name: Windows Recovery Environment (recovered)
Path: Recovery9426aa67-30ff-11e0-a348-506313b5e718Winre.wim
Windows Device: Partition=C: (476938MB)

A copy of the current boot configuration data will be saved as C:BootBCD.Backup.0002"If I click yes, it says that it cannot save the current settings for the BCD and refuses to continue. When I choose Startup Repair, it attempts to fix the problem but fails.

The problem details are:

Root cause found:
No OS files found on disk.
Repair action: Partition table repair
Result: Failed. Error code: 0x3bc3

I think that this is because Startup Repair is trying to fix the thumbdrive that I keep my Windows 7 install files in. I am overseas now and as my computer does not have an internal optical disk drive and my external drive is back home, thus using my thumbdrive is the only way to access the repair console.

I tried running a few commands, namely:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd

Fixmbr and fixboot work, but when I run RebuildBCD, it detects C:Windows as having a Windows installation, but if I type Y(yes) or A(all), it says that the requested system device cannot be found.
