Multiple Computers Freezing/slowing Down
Apr 27, 2012
having a really strange issue that is affecting multiple computers all with windows 7 64 bit.
Home computer: Only seems to happen when installing or deleting .exe files... usually when I try and delete them. It is fine doing everything else.. gaming/etc.
Specs:
I5 750 CPU
8 GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia 560 TI
Work computers (at least 6 different ones, all with different users): If it were only these computers having the issue, I would say lack of RAM... since we run a lot of apps, but since it is happening on my home computer....
Specs:
Intel 2 Duo E7500
4 GB RAM
Nvidia Quadro NVS 450
At work I caught the RAM dropping down to 0 free, where it will normally have around 1 gig - 500 mb free. I haven't been able to catch the ram usage at home when the issue happens... since you can't even CTRL ALT DELETE, I forget the exact message, but it pretty much tells you to just restart your computer manually. Also the internet connection will drop, and firefox will say a script stopped responding.
This seems to have started happening in the last month or two, which leads me to think there was an update that affects how windows 7 is allocating RAM, where it is trying to use too much for the system and draining it.
Since this seems to be affecting so many computers I really expected to see a lot of people having the issue online, but I haven't been able to find anything.

Recently my computer has been freezing and slowing down a lot when I use it. At first I thought it was a driver issue since my computer only freezes whenever I am watching a video or listening to music, I think I installed the right driver but my computer is still freezing ( a strange side effect from the freezing is if there is any audio, it will slow down and start to stretch out). After a few minutes it will revert back to normal like nothing happened.
Also my computer isn't running smoothly anymore, many times when I type, the words jump to completion. When I scroll, it jumps and doesn't smoothly scroll down the page. I tried everything from defragging to updating every driver and program possible and still the problems persist.

my windows 7 RC is about to expire, I do have a copy of XP Pro that I got from a buddy of mine...I am not sure if it will work or not using an upgrade version of Windows 7, I want to use the 64 bit version of Win7, and I want to be able to put it on more than just one pc at the same time.
I would like to put win7 on my 2 pc's and my friend's parent's pc. Is there a version of Win7 that I am able to use on multiple pcs at the same time or do I need to buy separate Win7s for each individual pc?
I don't anticipate upgrading to a new pc for myself any time soon, but there is a halfway decent chance that I might sell my current system and be able to get a new one that way. So...an OEM version kinda scares me, but at the same time, if it would definitely be the best value, I would not be totally against it.
Another concern for me would be home, pro, or ultimate...I think ultimate would be kind of a rip-off for what I would need...the only feature looking somewhat interesting it has that pro doesn't would be the encryption thing, but I mean really, I can probably get by without that. I'm leaning towards pro mostly because I'm scared there will be a program I'll want to use that I would need to set up the native xp mode for...but again, do I really need to worry about that too much? Home would be the cheapest and in my mind have the most value, but I'd like to hear from you guys if you think I would want the features from pro or ultimate and if that would represent the best value.
So, it boils down to...
1) Stick with XP pro or go Win7? (I believe either will work fine for my needs...online poker mostly, web surfing, game playing [WoW mostly], and DL'ing/listening to music...but Win7 is so much zippier and cooler looking!!!)
2)Home, Pro, or Ultimate?
3)OEM or Retail?
4)Upgrade or Full?
5)Most important!!! Best way to get on multiple pcs?

I have two ASUS computers: x83v (notebook) that is about 4 years old & 1015PEM (netbook) that is about 1.5 years old (still a baby), both of which are running Windows 7 Ultimate (64- and 32-bit, respectively). The freeze I get seems like it is the operating system since I still have mouse control for a few moments, but I am unable to open any programs nor the task manager; shortly after, the mouse goes down too (the mouse freezes with everything else). The time duration before my computers begin to freeze vary: my notebook is usually after 10 minutes, and my netbook is almost immediately. I began experiencing the complete freeze about 1.5 months ago on both machines. Being a tech-savvy guy, I ruled out hardware issues since both machines experienced the same issues at the same time. I used my netbook only for college, so it didn't have much on it. I began comparing similarities on the two machines: Dropbox, Avast, & Office 2012 Pro+. I uninstalled Dropbox and nothing was fixed. I did not test removing Avast or Office. I decided to back up my important files and format and reinstall Windows 7 on both machines. I imaged them with Acronis, when they only had updates and office 2012 installed (no virus scan). After the imaging process, I added Avast and Dropbox again, as well as Code Blocks for C++ coding (on my notebook); I did not restore my important system files yet since I am trying to zero in on the issue. I am still experiencing the freezing on both machines. Very seldom my netbook will recover from a freeze. Last week, my notebook needed Windows updates so I started them and went to sleep. The next evening, nearly 24 hours later, I noticed my computer was still on: it froze on update 3 of however many. I was very reluctant to shut down the computer in fear of corrupting system files, but I knew it was not going to recover from the freeze since it had been 24 hours already. My brother is 12 and downloads random things frequently and is not very careful. I wondered if he caught a bug and it had spread to my computers. I tried multiple other virus scans on my computers, including McAfee Stinger & Malware Bytes, and everything came back clear.

I bought Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit for my Windows Vista comp. Now that I am thinking of building my own computer will that cd work on a new hard drive? I know I will probably have to call Microsoft about a new product key but aside from that should I be fine?

I was wondering if anyone knew whether it is possible to login to multiple computers at once. More specifically I would like to use the fingerprint reader on my laptop to login to it and my two desktops simultaneously. I don't even know if it is possible, or if this is the right section in the forums but

As of late, one of my computers (Windows 7, 64-bit) has been randomly freezing up. When this happens, I hear a crackle from my speakers, and my USB mouse and keyboard get disconnected (their lights get turned off, so I'm assuming that's the case), and the screen just freezes so it isn't just the mouse/keyboard getting disconnected. This happens on different times - two shortly after startup, one while on a page that uses Flash (I use Chrome, if that's helpful), and one while using a format converter.Going through the event logs, the only event that seems to be related to this is one saying that the computer had been improperly turned off at the time this happened. No other errors that could've caused this could be found. I have a suspicion that it may be an issue with the GPU, since I recently saw a notification saying that my video card's driver recovered from an error, and Photoshop has been crashing as of late due to GPU-related problems.

I have a desktop running windows 7 premium and will later purchase a netbook that will come with windows 7 starter. Started is dumb, and i want nothing to do with it. So can I use the same key with the installation on the desktop on the netbook without it causing issues? In other words, I want to install it on both machines. Is there a way to do this without getting another copy or using a keygen?

I want to be able to RDP to maybe 3 or 4 different machines on a Remote LAN (OK I'm not THAT well off to be able to afford a large number of machines -- these will be Virtual machines).
On a LAN with Bridged networking these machines behave just like REAL physical machines with their own IP addresses.
Now in my router I can only see a way of Port forwarding to a specific IP address on the Lan
So anyway round this.

Is there any way to use KMS with 20 Serial Keys to Activate 20 computers with Windows 7. I am confused on if you need a Volume License only. and if you do is there any way to be able to have the Server Automatically Activate each computer after it is imaged. We plan on imaging our computers like once a month, but we dont want to manually set up the Serial Keys each time.

I have 2 Windows 7 Computers and neither one will recognize a Lexar 16gb usb flash drive, my son has a Windows 8 Computer and it won't recognize it either. I see the drive in disk mgmt, and, sometimes, Windows explorer, but when I click on it, in Windows Explorer, I get the message, "Please insert a disk into Removable Disk(I". In Disk Mgmt, the device says "No Media", when I right click to go to Properties, the device status shows "This device is working properly" and, finally, when I try to update the driver, it sas the driver is up to date. I think the drive is dead (it was bought for my son for Christmas), but want someone else's opinion

Long story short, my HD is acting up on a 2 week old laptop, I've heard some clicking noises coming from it. I spoke with the retailer and agreed to swap it for me with a new laptop. I don't have the time to reinstall a fresh Windows 7, do the countless hours of updates, and then install the programs I need.
Is it possible I can make a restore point using Windows 7 of the current laptop, save the restore point on an external hard disk, and then when I get my new laptop, I can use the restore point saved on the external hard disk. Therefore, I don't need to do all the updates, reinstall a fresh Windows OS, and install my previous programs I need.

I've seen this somewhere, but I can't for the life of me find it again. There is a way of setting only certain remotes to work with certain PCs so they don't interfere with others. I have my HTPC and laptop in the same room, both with IR receivers - whenever I use the remote for my PC, the laptop ends up with all the signals too, and I come back to find it's playing a video or something.
Does anyone here know where that tutorial/registry setting is to change remote control channels?

I have two computers running W7p that I want to access when I'm away from my office. I am able to use remote desktop from inside my home network on either computer. I am able to access one of the computers from outside with my router set to forward global port 3389 to host port 3389. I am guessing that what I need to do is set up two port forwards in my router; the global port will be different but the host port will still be 3389 in each case. Does that sound right? One thing I know is that going into the registry and changing the host port to something other than 3389 does nothing. In fact, if I do that I can no longer use remote desktop inside my home network. I've looked all over the web today and there are not any clear instructions on how to do this (that I could find). I read the Windows 7 forum tutorial.

Any solution to this problem.
I have for example a few machines up and running on a LAN (might be VM's but that shouldn't be an issue).
Say I have five with addresses 192.168.2.2 ==> 192.168.2.6
I might want to RDP to any of these from behind a router.
Using something like No-IP (No-IP - Dynamic DNS, Static DNS for Your Dynamic IP) I can get a an "Internet acessible" domain so I don't need to know the actual IP address that the Internet sees my router.
As I'm behind a router having Multiple domains won't help either as to the external Internet my router is seen as a single IP address.
However the router will only port forward to a single IP address on my LAN.
So if I need to RDP to any other machine on my LAN other than the default one presumably I could only do this by using a different default port for RDP for each of the machines on the LAN. OK not pretty but "Do-able".
Now we get to the real hassle -- If I did this then I'd need a different version of RDP on the CLIENT computer -- not possible if I'm using a work laptop .
Any solutions . I'm totally flumixed by this one.

I need to install Windows 7 on multiple computers (over 20), overwriting the original install with a customized one with added software. I would use a boot time imaging software to simply load the image but I am concerned about the license key for each computer.Could I update the cloned license information with the license I copied from each computer beforehand? Either by getting it from the documentation that came with the computer or by using a software tool to extract the key from the Windows 7 install that was originally on the computer before I overwrite it with the clone image.

I do computer support for a living and multiple customers have contacted me in the last 2 weeks stating that their Windows 7 computers are freezing intermittantly. I have performed a number of tasks on one of my customers PC. I updated the video drivers, I updated any programs that were requesting updates (Java, Adobe, Microsoft). I cleaned out all the temp files. I changed the anti-virus software from Webroot to Malwarebytes. I have searched through the event logs (both System & Application) and there are no patterns.

Ist I had a win 7 x64 which ran smooth for over a year (had x32 before that, and some linux variants)..Then I decided to upgrade my pc to win 8 (i had heard from fellow it'ers that the upgrade was much better than previous versions so i thought why not give it a go)..It was a disaster, my pc kept freezing on me sometimes even before i had one program open.If it went in sleep -> oh yeah freeze OR actually going to sleep but not being able to wake up.After some weeks in that hell, i did a clean install..Better,it seemed, but not much and not for long. After more cold rebooting my pc in a month than in the 2 or 3 years I've had it I decided to put win7 x64 back on..You can imagine my horror when I noticed that (although being WAAAY less severe) even my win7 started freezing on me.I even had my boot menu (3 times orso) and my post (1 or 2 times) freeze on me, so I'm suspecting maybe some HW issues.Often I had corrupted ntfs system after one of these agressive shutdowns, which were solved by autorepair next boot.
I ran chkdsk, hdd diag,memtest86..All came back clean. In windows i used advanced driver updater (because i was sick of doing it all manually) so ALL the drivers were up to date, even sata controllers,chipset,...
Also, I don't know if it matters but when freezing my pointer dissappears very often (90% of the time). I attached the win8dump files and evt logs in the win7 file, the more info the better no? (Yes writing this from a win7 os cause it freezes less)

It does not appear to be getting over heated as the fan kicks in and out, not permanently running.

Our setup is as follows: Users are in a remote location connected by satellite link to the domain server. The domain server is DNS and DHCP server for client computers. Because of the satellite connection data transmission has a longer than normal latency delay but transfer speeds are not bad (0.5 mps).I can understand that when logging in, a client computer might experience a longer login time as Windows communicates with the domain server to validate credentials. However, after logging in, are there network activities being performed by the client computer with the domain server on a permanent basis that would make the client computer much slower than normal while performing local tasks? Users report that when logged into the domain, their computers slow down significantly even when opening files on their hard disks. It might be that other issues are causing the problem, but I would like to understand better how the client - server relationship works when logged into a domain so that we can test further.

[Windows 7 Ultimate; Intel Quadcore 6600 2.4 GHz; Asus P5E Mainboard, 4GB RAMvia cable to BT Infinity router.]I have BT's Infinity Broadband, but something odd is happening with itand BT say Windows 7 itself is the problem.By way of comparison I have my little Samsung N210 Netbook (Windows 7 Starter edition) running directly beside (see the above specs) my desktop machine. The Netbook is connected wirelessly.I use Advanced System Care Pro, BT Infinity Desktop Help, and CCleaner to keep both machines (otherwise) singing.So. How come my little Netbook averages 25.4 Mb download speedwhile my super-duper desktop averages only 4.79? Those being regularly indicative figures, that's an 81% difference.

We have a 20Mb line with a 2Mb upload. When checking speed testing sites, we're always getting full speeds. When downloading using Steam or uTorrent (Anything that manages its own downloads) I can get 2.4 - 2.5MB/s download. But when I'm using any form of web browser, firefox, IE ect. Loading pages can take 10-20 seconds, pictures 30seconds-2minutes. Downloads are much much slower, around 500KB/s and while videos usually load fast enough they sometimes drop their connection and stop buffering.

If so why when ripping a double cd does the first disc go quickly and not the second.
