how do I change my resolution to 1440x900? I go into Screen Resolution and there is no 1440x900 in between 1360x768 and 1600x900. I have the driver for my monitor and my Nvidia 8300 GS Video Card (256 MB), so what do I do?
View 4 RepliesI have had a dual monitor setup with my laptop(Inspiron 1545 with GM45 Intel Card) extending to a regular LCD screen. It worked for two months and until recently has stopped working.I have uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled the newest drivers, changed the cables(power supply and VGA), system restored back a month to when it was working, and changed the power outlet.This originally worked flawlessly and now the laptop is not recognizing any device I attach via the VGA output. I have plugged the laptop into another monitor with no avail as well. I find it hard to believe that this would stop working one day with no notice or any problems. I have also tried attaching a projector that had worked for over a year with the laptop and have gotten nothing.
I receive a black screen as if to say this something being outputted, but nothing is displayed. Both windows screen resolution and the intel GUI both do not recognize another device. [code]
I got a new video card at work to install and nothing will show up when I plug it in. I can go through the computers VGA and it works fine, but when I go to the video card only a black screen. Any help? Can't download drivers either, only black screen upon boot.

I take out both of my different videos cards and use internal video and it does not crash. The problem is this is my living room movie file player and the video cards make a huge difference....I also need explorer as well....now Chrome works but that is not what I want..

So I looked a bit into this matter and what I have found is that the VLC player that I am using to play the video files runs of the onboard graphics card and not the nvidia 540M card that is also installed in this notebook.

Well, I took the hard drive from my new computer and installed it in an external drive case and cloned to this drive using Acronis clone tool. Then I installed the cloned drive back in my new computer. Now no signal whatsoever to the monitor. My monitor is good as I tried my old computer with it and it works fine. I've spent a good couple of hours to get this to work or reading up on it, but I just have a 3rd monitor sitting here.
i have dual monitors on a geforce 9800gtx+ with newest drivers from nvidia, and i have some weirdness when it comes to fullscreen videos, if i am playing a video in wmp or watching a Internet video in fullscreen on either monitor, when i click on the other monitor it come out of full screen on the monitor playing the video.
im running win 7 ultimate x86
any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The card didn't come with a dvi vga adapter and do i need one to use the graphics card with the monitor?

Have a Dell GX620 (desktop: mid-size that requires low profile PCIe graphics card) running Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. Looking for a low profile card that will support dual DVI (expecting a Y cable) with dual monitors and extended desktop with 2 different displays. Dell 22" widescreen and Dell 19" digital.
Can go VGA if needed but would like to go all DVI.
Another thing I'd like is certified Windows 7 drivers vs just compatible or something that I have hack to make it work. I tend to build out a box and let it run a few years with as little tweaking as possible...
After I reformatted windows 7 I notice that it looked funny and that my graphics card was set to standard and my monitor was set to generic pnp monitor. Ive downloaded the graphic card drivers from amd but they still dont show up.

To wits end I am stumped after installing a new SSD HD today and clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit OS.The problem I am having is that in device manager under Display Adapters it list Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. Also for Monitors it Lists Generic PnP Monitor.I have downloaded and updated the latest drivers for each hardware and a I am still getting the same result.This is frustrating since I could not image my old version of Windows 7 from a larger,slower HD to the new/faster SSD HD. Windows 7 imaging suggests that the new HD must be larger than the old HD in order to do an image restore.I have read this is not the case however found that in no way have I been able to successfully image restore my old OS from the larger HD to the new smaller SSD HD.

I ran Microsoft's upgrade advisor and was informed that my video card (ATI X1650) was not up to running Aero. I'd like to have that functionality but it is essential that I be able to have a card that runs dual DVI monitors, one of which, an Eizo ColorEdge is color-calibrated.
I'm not a gamer so that stuff is moot for me but the ability to maintain high resolution color-perfect monitors is critical for Photoshop apps (my main app).
With that background, what video cards do you think I should be considering?
Currently have FireGL V3350 which there are no ATI-provided Windows 7 drivers.
It does seem to work OK though with the automatically installed drivers.
Thinking to upgrade to something a bit more up to date, what would the team suggest?
This is for basic office/development work with 2 19" viewsonics so need 2xDVI. No gaming and would prefer something with passive cooling.
Any thoughts?

i have an hp m9340f purchased a couple new nvidea graphics cards when I started getting the noisy fan issue .
Installed windows 7 everything worked great but was having problems with windows media center after I went to a 56k connection so i decided to format start over,
Everytime it installs the drivers for my nvidea graphics card my monitor goes black and has no signal. i tried both dif cards. same problem. I am guessing it is the recommended settings but since I only have one monitor I can't change the settings cause.. can't see to do it, and I have no other monitor to hook to to try.
I can start up in safe mode so any idea's how to fix this issue or change it all to 800 x 600 so i can see when it starts up with new drivers .....

i have this big problem is that my graphics card as a problem that in almost 2 years it never did thisi never had problems with this computerbut what happend is that i use a LCD screen the resolution is use is 1768x992 and i use a Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT graphics card what happends is that when i turn the computer on i see the screen with ALOT of lines with weird colors and i thought this was a drivers problem so i installed the graphics card drive and clean the PC up for the 2nd time nothing worked so i tried formating it but i doubt it that would work because those lines where there so yeai did manage on getting a screen cap from the windows and it looks like thishe weird part is that the lines and stuff that appear on the screen as well dont show up on the picture so i tried using another monitor and it had the same resultim using Windows Ultimate 32 bit i have my graphics card connected to my TV(LCD) with a HDMI cable i thought it could be that so i tried another cable it didnt work so at this point i ran out of ideas

Was finally able to get rid of the viruses in the services.exe and desktop.ini files. However once they were cleaned and got everything back to normal, I'm having problems with my video card being recognized by anything. Only recognizing the Intel® and not my Nvidia gtx 560M. It's not listed on the dxdiag page, not showing up as a selectable option for The Elder Scrolls Skyrim. Was working fine a few hours ago. It's listed under device manager just not showing up anywhere else. Just wondering if getting rid of those viruses might have deleted some needed .dll or something

I wiped the drive to get all their vapor ware off, installed my software and everything went fine. Windows Update recognized the hardware on my machine and downloaded and installed the appropriate drivers after the wipe.Here's the problem. My girlfriend followed suit two weeks later and asked me to do the same thing for her. Our machines were slightly different but for the most part I expected a similar experience. Except it wasn't. This time Windows Update failed to recognize the Video Card after the wipe.So now she has this nice video card sitting in her machine using a Standard VGA Adapter instead of the Radeon drivers it needs. No matter how many times I download and install the Catalyst software from ATI's site it doesn't catch. What am I doing wrong?
