Missing Functionality After BSOD

Jul 4, 2012

This is actually the third thread I am making for the situation I am in since I was redirected twice, Basically I got a BSOD and was told to revalidate. After I did that, some things didn't work anymore, a successful update being one of them. After going through the two threads, it seems to be some kind of compatibility issue, but Im not sure. Reading through what I did in the two threads will give more information about the situation.

Command Prompt: Loss Of Functionality?

Apr 5, 2011

Whenever I type a certain command into the Command Prompt (I'm not sure if it's only admin-only commands only, probably is...), I get an error saying the command is not recognised? I was trying to flush my DNS and renew my IP using IPConfig when it happened. Then, I decided to test another command "sfc /scannow", that didn't work either (note: CMD was running with Admin privileges too). I could perform these commands fine before. And I'm on an administrator account too.

Driver For USB Functionality Doesn't Work

Nov 9, 2009

I'm running the german version of Windows 7 x64, so here is the original message I get when I click on "USB" in the menu-bar:

"Der für die USB-Funktionalität erforderliche Virtualisierungstreiber funktioniert nicht."

It's something like this in english:

"The driver necessary for the SUB-functionality doesn't work."

The problem appeared after I installed VMWare if I remember right (didn't use XP-Mode for a while). It worked well before.

All other features, like the integration features, work well.

I uninstalled VMWare and reinstalled XP-mode but it didn't help.

Any hints?

Edit: SecurAble said "Yes" to the given features

Loss Of Hibernation Functionality On Windows 7 Professional

Apr 5, 2011

I have a Compaq Presario CQ60 307-SA laptop which is running Windows 7 Profession (32 bit) I recently tried to put it into hibernation but found that my laptop will no longer do so.

Hibernation had been working fine up until I upgraded my hard drive from a 160 GB 5400 RPM WD Elements Scorpio Blue to a 500 GB 7200 RPM WD Elements Scorpio Black hard drive. Ever since then I can't put my laptop into hibernation.

The menu option for Hibernation is displayed so it is enabled, however when I attempt to hibernate the laptop the screen goes blank (As if it was going to hibernate) but then after a few short seconds the screen flashes and then the login screen appears again prompting me to login into my user as if I had just booted up the machine

The only possible cause that I can think of is that I did a full system image of my old hard drive and used my Windows 7 disc to restore the image onto the new hard drive. Rather than re-installing my whole OS from scratch, so maybe the hibernation file/settings got bodged.

Lost Copy And Paste Functionality In Windows Explorer

Mar 14, 2012

I've been unable to copy and paste or drag and drop files in Windows explorer for a few weeks. The problem is as far as I can tell limited to copying and moving files. These functions work just fine in other programs.

I can copy and paste text just fine, and I can drag a file from a .rar archive to the desktop. I can however NOT drag and drop files from the desktop to a folder.

If I try to copy and paste using Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V or the right click menu all I get is some noise from the hard drive and no other reaction.

EDIT: Copying and pasting files works in safe mode.

Memory Doesn't Get Freed; System Functionality Decreases

Feb 13, 2011

I have 8GB of memory in my computer. When I power it up, the memory usage starts out at somewhere between 10%-20%, which I think is OK.After a while of using the computer and opening & closing programs, the amount of memory being used steadily increases, until it escalates to around 89%, upon which things start to work poorly. The most prominent effect is loss of internet connection.Network stops working entirely, and running ipconfig shows nothing, as if I don't even have a network adapter.I tried opening the Network and Sharing Center and the Device Manager when this happened, but they wouldn't open. Also, it is difficult to restart the computer after this starts happening. The computer seems to be working swiftly, but certain actions seem to be problematic (e.g. opening Task Manager or any Explorer window, or reaching the Ctrl+Alt+Delete screen). Other things might still work, though (for example, opening Command Prompt).

There is no error message of any sort, nor a BSOD.I can somehow understand why this might happen, if no memory is available to the OS, but what I don't understand is this: Even at 90% usage, with 8 GB of RAM there should still be enough for the system to operate normally. Why does closing programs have no effect on the situation?I summed up the memory taken by all open processes when the memory was at about 75% usage, and it doesn't even add up to 2GB. Adding an exaggerated 2GB extra for the OS itself, it shouldn't even reach 50%.How does this come to be in the first place? It looks like closing applications does not free the memory they were using.I performed a full virus scan using ESET's online scanner (in case my own antivirus was compromised), as well as a malware scan using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, but everything seems to be clean.I've had this computer for around 3 weeks, and have installed mostly games on it so far.Basic System Information:Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium OS Version:6.1.7600 Build 7600 System Type: x64 RAM: 8 GB (2 x 4GB) Antivirus: NOD32I've attached a few files with some more information: System Information.txt - Exported from msinfo32.Resource Monitor Numbers.txt - A summary of the information in the Resource Monitor when my memory was at around 75% usage, before the functionality issues start to occur. It contains an exaggerated sum (rounded each value up to the nearest whole MB) of all the process memory values in the Processes table.IPConfig.Bad.txt - What running ipconfig looks like after the functionality issues start to occur.

Windows 7 SP1 - Upgrade Broke StartMenu Functionality And No Icons Anywhere

Feb 28, 2012

Recently, upgraded W7 home premium to SP1 via windows updater. No errs occurred/reported during upgrade... rebooted and "wallah"... no icons visible anywhere, and StartMenu functionality is nonexistent by keyboard or mouse-click. Reverted to an earlier restore point, but unfortunately that move cost me IPv4 functionality and i could not pull IPs.. spent a couple hours trying to restore my net adapters (netsh interface ipv4 install, et.al.), drivers, etc, with no success.... so i imported via USB the SP1 from M$ (W6.1-KB976932-X64) and recommitted myself to stupidity, i mean to the upgrade... IPv4 restored, but no icons, no StartMenu function.I remember a similar problem with an XP upgrade that required altering Registry values in REGEDIT.. but i cannot find those notes.

Disable The "undo" Functionality Of Windows 7 Explorer (file Operations)?

Dec 28, 2011

This is a bit of a strange problem, admittedly. Nonetheless, I'm hopeful that someone here may have a solution.Win 7 Explorer has this "feature" whereby you can undo all sorts of file operations (rename, move, delete) by pressing ctrl+z or by clicking the "undo <whatever>" menu item in the context menu.I find this incredibly annoying, because the only time I use this feature is by accident (either I was trying to ctrl+z in another program window without realizing the focus was switched to, say, the desktop; or I simply failed to click the menu item I was aiming for, and hit the undo <whatever> instead..)

BSOD, BOOTMgr Missing, And NTFS Errors

Feb 12, 2010

I have my soon 1 year old rig wich has from the start been a bit of a bumby ride.

Lately things have gotten worse and I think it's time to do something about it!

So my comp has BSOD out quite random since i built it, and yesterday i couldn't boot up to windows.
That due to a random BSOD and then i couldn't choose to boot form my C disk in Bios. So the message BOOTMgr is missing appeared.Ii solved the BOOTMGR very easy (*phew*) but as soon as i booted up my comp today it freeze-hang. This Shouldn't be appearing on a rig like this right?

My specs are following:

i7 920 (C stepping)
Asus P6T
Asus 9800GTX+ DK TOP
620W PSU
WD 640gb
Corsair 3 gb 1333mhz

Simply explained I'm hunting for the cause of all my BSOD's and weird behaviors.

I've looked up some of my BSOD's and all of them did point at some kind of memory failure, one of them was error in the NTFS system.

I've began to wonder, is my hard drive not working as it should?

This is my first self build comp and I'm quite new into all of this, would be very happy see some answers.

Boot MGR Missing, No Operating System, BSOD While Trying To Download?

Jun 19, 2012

It all started when I realized I downloaded the 32 bit operating system on my desktop. Now however, I got a BSOD when I inserted the CD into the desktop. People around the internet said that you must go ahead and format the drive, So, I went ahead and did that. Thus deleting the operating system in the process. Now, When I try downloading the operating system, I get this message:Boot MGR is missing. restart the computer.I have tried everything. Using my laptop to make a USB Drive to boot it up. I cannot do that because my laptop is a 32 bit operating system, and I want a 64 bit. Please, The motherboard is a M5A 78L-M LX Plus with an AMD chipset. The monitors work fine and everything works until the boot MGR Pops up. I am puzzled because while working on computers in school, this only popped up when the operating system was on the harddrive. However, I cannot do anything at all.

Missing Sound Card Software/driver Causing BSOD On Startup?

Jan 15, 2012

Earlier yesterday I was having an issue where sound was both playing through my laptop's speakers as well as the headphones I had plugged in. Not really knowing an exact way to fix this I went to the device and disabled it hoping that could temporarily solve my problem. Now, I am assuming because of this whenever I boot into Windows 7 I get to the "please wait" screen then instantly get a blue screen every time and I can only boot into safe mode. I found this thread (one or more audio service isnt running) through Google and found that this user had the same issues I was having (I am also getting the audio service error when I run the troubleshooterI believer my speakers are Realtek and when I run dxdiag I get the hardware ID of DAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0272&SUBSYS_1025028D&REV_1000 (I ran this dxdiag in the copy of the Windows 8 dev preview I have also installed to my hard drive)I do have the results from Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 attached but when I ran perfmon /report I got: "An error occurred while attempting to generate the report. The system cannot find the path specified."My copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit came pre-installed on my machine which I got either 2 or 3 years ago, don't remember exactly

Bootmgr.exe Missing... Mpio.sys Missing Or Corrupted. Unable To Boot?

Oct 28, 2011

I just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?

Control Panel Is Missing And Taskbar Is Missing?

Sep 30, 2011

Ok i have windows 7, Recently i have found out that i have a full list of errors that happened pretty much overnight:Here's the list 1. I can't go onto Control Panel It say's " This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator" I AM THE ADMIN.. I am the only account too.  2. My Task bar is missing, When i go ctrl-alt-del i see no option to open up my task bar. [FIXED] 3. I cant RIGHT click on anything on my desktop, as well as my folders and stuff. Although i can right click while playing games or browsing the internet, so my mouse is definitely not broken.  So u must be thinking, this guy has a virus for sure... Well if i do have a virus it must be made by ******* Bill Gates. Because i can't find it.I have the FULL version of Trend Micro Cillin as well as Norton 360, I've just recently downloaded Malvare Bytes, and that couldn't find anything as well. I've done a full system scam on both anti-virus programs, i see no viruses. I did get a virus a week ago, but Norton quickly picked it up, I'm thinking it may have changed a few settings in my computer before i managed to delete it.

Missing MBR And Missing OS After Sleep?

Jan 10, 2012

My setup had an MBR issue a few days ago after installing Skyrim. I was unable to repair it using the windows 7 instal disc. I tried the automatic fix as well as bootrec.exe. After giving up and reinstalling a fresh windows 7, my rig has not been starting up properly. It insists on waking up from sleepwhen it was shutdown, i.e. Not sleeping. Well after a few days of this with no other problems, bootmgr can't be found again. Now, when I load the repair disc, it can't find my OS to even try a bootrec.exe on. But, when i go to load drivers the explorer window allows me to browse my c:/ drive and the installation is there. I would prefer to fix rather than reinstall due to a symantec DRM issue.

Windows 7 is on a 60 gb raid 0 setup (I know, i know, i deserve this for running raid 0)

[BSOD] BSOD Recently Started All Required Files Attached?

Dec 5, 2011

I am writing this right now because after the last BSOD it said "Windows can not start" and I had to restore to when it was previously working. So up until that point this is what I did.Since working with computers almost my entire life I know most BSOD are due to either bad memory, drivers, or bios. I started there and updated my nvidea drivers but it happened again. I moved to the motherboard bios.I did find a newer one on there and using ASUS tool I flashed the BIOS. Same thing still happened. Next I ran memtestx86 for 8 hours and it returned no errors. At this point I just decided to look for newest drivers for everything. One thing that happened consistently was that my wireless USB adapter from Cisco had to be unplugged and plugged back in for it to work. I went there first, reinstalled the drivers but still the same thing. I thought maybe it was my hard drive. I downloaded Seagates Utility tool and ran all the tests and they all passed fine. I ran defrag just for good measure along with windows version of the mem test and that passed as well. I still continued to get the BSOD and I have to tell you I'm irritated and also stumped.

Next I moved onto software. I have been using AVG free for years but I know virus programs do some crazy stuff and I got rid of that. Turned on windows defender. I decided that since the wireless adapter didn't work after these crashes maybe lets just go to a direct wired connection. I disconnected the cisco wireless adapter and I'm just using a direct connect right to my router. These come at random times.. nothing I do can trigger it. It can stay on for days and not crash and then there are times it can be up for 10 min and crash. Some of you might notice that in the CPU-Z screenshots I had to take the screenshot with the error underneath. Every time I chose either of the two slots it crashed the program.I have not done anything internally besides add some neon to my computer which does not connect to the board at all.I have seen IRQL blue screen once so I even went as far to go into the power settings for windows and make sure the usb and everything never went into any kind of "standby" mode.

I believe this is still under warranty and I would like to go in with good information if I need to challenge and get new hardware if that's what it is.On a side note I have not touched the memory physically. I know some suggestions were to reseed the memory and chip but In my opinion something that has been working for months that never moves off my desk and is never basically touched besides the power button shouldn't mean something just came loose after 4 months of owning it.Again that's just my opinion. I have removed AVG, Ad-Aware, Some webcam motion detector software (which was a joke) and the only thing that was really installed was Skyrim.

[BSOD] Random BSOD - Kernel Data Inpage Error

Dec 15, 2012

This started happening last night while i was playing Borderlands 2, it has happened at idle, playing just about any game in my library, during downloads and just browsing the web. I changed all of my accessible drivers, and it continued to happen, so i moved all of my personal files onto my external HDD. I re installed windows on my SSD (did not reformat) and reformatted my HDD. I re installed my drivers, re-enabled SLI and it ran fine for about an hour, just downloading WoW, and then happened again twice.

I started getting BSOD two weeks ago. As far as I can remember the first time I had a BSOD was on the day I installed Max Payne 3 (I read somewhere that the some guy had also this problem when he installed max payne). There were two occasions that I got a BSOD upon starting Max Payne 3. But lately I'm getting BSOD when doing low-load stuffs like browsing with no other apps opened. I've already done memtest with 10 passes with no errors. I'm 24 hours prime95 stable. I just don't get it! I've manually set my timings for my ram. I'm not doing any overclock. Everything is on stock settings.
