View 4 Repliesi am having a problem with my memory getting tied up / used up and not being able to access it again until i reboot.
machine: dell xps studio 8100
os: win 7,
processor: i7 2.8
ram: 16gb (max it will take)
video: ati radeon 5700 (running 3 monitors)
versions: as far as i know i am running current versions of everything, including video drivers, flash, chrome, etc. (i've tried running chrome with both the build in version of flash and the system version -haven't seen a difference)
browser: i nearly exclusively run chrome / canary with auto-updates so am at the latest builds.what seems to cause me to use up / run out of memory is after i play videos (Internet, netflix, etc.), the memory seems to get used, but is not returned to the system, even if the browser is closed and re-opened.right now for example things are working fine; i rebooted my system a couple hours ago (but have not played any videos). i have adobe lightroom running, picasa, chrome and canary (currently 4 web browser windows open with 52 tabs open). task manager currently shows me using 8.20gb of ram, that seems pretty reasonable to me.
normally my system will keep running properly (if a program is closed, memory is freed up) right up until i start to play any videos (Internet, netflix, etc.) then it will start using up more memory. (of course i expect it to use more memory during playback) however, even if i restart the browser, the memory does not get freed back up. for example, just prior to the reboot, with everything closed, i was using right around 8gb of ram. once i rebooted, i was using 1.something gb of ram prior to opening any programs.however, once i start playing some videos, i never seem to be able to get my ram freed back up again unless i reboot the whole system. this is not just a problem with how much memory the system shows as being available, i frequently actually run out of memory. (task manager will show me as using around 15gb and then everything starts swapping out like crazy).
I find that if I run chkdsk and watch the memory usage in task manager it jumps by about 50MB every 2 seconds or so until it either finishes or hits around 3.2GB at which point my physical memory shows 99% used (I'm running 4GB), and the system of course slows to a crawl.f you just run a quick chkdsk on your boot drive you may not notice it, but try running something longer like chkdsk /r on a flash drive or chkdsk /f on a bigger internal drive (but not your OS drive as this would require a reboot) and watch the memory usage climb. I have duplicated this on both systems I have running Windows 7. My XP machine (checking the same USB flash drive) uses a much more normal amount of memory for chkdsk (20 - 30 MB).
View 9 Replies View RelatedMemory Usage Goes Up Gradually (Memory Leak)When I starting the Windows (in the first few hours) everything is normal But after 1 day or 2 (sooner or later) the amount of available memory gradually goes down and the physical memory usage increasing. This increasing, continues until the memory usage reaches near the 88% and at that point , there isn't any memory available to operate any software . Also when memory reaches that point, I can't access any drive in the HDD; because everytime I want to open any folder, the following error appears :c: is not accessible.Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service At this point, I even can't shutdown or restart Windows normally; I must restart windows manually by pressing the restart button.after restart, everything goes to normal again; but this problem appears again and again ...

To start, I have Windows 7, on Sony Vaio laptop. I have been working on the issues with the malware removal team, but now machine looks clean, I am still having issues. When starting the computer and going to the task manager, I can watch explorer.exe start at about 18K memory usage and then grow constantly until it is running with almost all of the computer's physical memory after about seven min. I cannot get the context menu to show up after a few min by right clicking on anything. I had been experiencing "freezing" while playing Eden Eternal (an online role playing game) before that, which made me consider malware and seek help here at BleepingComputer. The freezing has ended, last time I played on that machine at least, but now there seems to be some issue with the explorer.exe taking all of the memory. I haven't been using the machine since I don't trust that there's not something running in the background that shouldn't be. In resource monitor there were "connections" that had "-" for both the name and the PID, but I don't know if that was the malware of if that's normal somehow? Issue with explorer.exe seems to be limited to only one user account, and not the other one. That is to say that if I log on one of the other accounts explorer.exe behaves normally, as far as memory usage.
View 12 Replies View RelatedIn the last week or so, I have to reboot my pc almost every day because the RAM usage gets up to 93% and I can't do anything, even launch taskmanager. When I've caught it before it was too full, I saw that almost nothing was listed as using RAM (system was at like 80MB). Essentially, RAM is "in use", but the use is not explained by taskmgr or perfmon.I'm prepared to learn that it's a BIOS or mem controller issue, but it never happened in several years of XP and Vista on the same rig. Also I see I'm not the only one with the same issue on Win 7 64bit: Win 7 64bit Ram Filling Up Problem?
View 9 Replies View RelatedReading around I thought IE eliminated it's memory leaks but I definitely have it when I use IE8. I typically have three windows of IE8 open and within one will have multiple tabs, maybe five or six at the most. Over time memory usage definitely grows and is not reclaimed as tabs or even windows are closed. Only way I can reclaim memory is by closing all windows and putting computer to sleep. When I awaken it and start again memory usage is back to it's initial state. But then it will grow again as I use IE8. Seems to happen no matter what websites are visited so I don't think a specific site is causing the problem.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was just downloading somes big files with jdownloader while watching a movie, but the system was slowy getting laggy, so I checked the memory usage and i was almost full (90% of physical memory in use) and perfmon could not show me anything.
Right now, about ten minutes later, the memory usage is still the same, I killed jdownloader, java and kmplayer , but it still the same. I cant find who is guilty. I post some screens.

About a month ago I acquired a large .mkv file. Cutting to the chase, I deduced that when, in explorer, I simply clicked on the folder containing this file, my available memory started to disappear about 10-20MB a second until it was depleted; at which point system performance came to a near halt. I also eventually found out that it was the process explorer.exe that held all of this available memory, EVEN THOUGH the task manager AND resource manager showed that explorer held a steady... 25MB. On my 4GB ram system, after just about a minute, all 2.5 gigs were gone and when the explorer.exe process was ended, all that mystery memory re-appeared.Booting in Safe Mode, clicking on this folder did not produce the same result.Over the next few weeks, I acquired more and more .mkv's. NOT ALL OF THEM create this problem, but about 40% of them do, with the exact same symptoms. I tried disabling thumbnail previewing on individual files AND folder thumbnailing, and it STILL caused this super annoying issue.I can not move these large .MKVs to another hard drive unless I am in safe mode. not acceptable.

I have a ASUS Sabertooth mobo, overclocked. Performance-wise it runs fine.. high spec's. I used standard ASUS AI II software to set and check stuff like temps. Also works fine. But that software comes with a memory leak in atkexcomsvc.I've now de-installed and am going to check other versions + contact ASUS if needed.

In both build 7048 and 7068 I have massive memory leakage going on in the gadget sidebar, and can't solve the problem aside from restarting the process to clear the memory.
Is MS aware of this? And is there a fix in newer builds? Otherwise, any useful advice?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI used to have the occasional problem with utorrent, but now that I have gone to Windows 7, I seem unable to get it to work. There seems to be a firewall problem, so I disabled Windows firewall - which I have read is very good, and I think did allow utorrent - and have now put in comodo instead.
Then I read that if you have a firewall on your router, you do not need to have another one installed as well.
I am now really confused with all this.
Just checked and have at last got a green tick on utorrent - all be it slow, at least it is working whoops, just gone off again.
Any advice on utorrent or the firewall situation would be gratefully recieved.
I seem to be getting BSODs when running uTorrent. This has only started recently. Usually this is when i leave it on schedule mode, set to download overnight. Today I have tested and found that with schedule turned off and uTorrent running, BSODs still occur. I cannot be sure it is uTorrent, but it seems to only happen when it's open and downloading. I am currently running dskchk for bad sectors but as this is a second HDD supplied by the laptop maker. OEM Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I have updated uTorrent in the recent weeks/FONT]

View 7 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I am getting very slow DL speeds using Utorrent. It starts up ok, with a reasonably healthy Kbs, then slowly drops down to 1-2 Kbs.I have tried many torrents from different sources as to be sure it wasn't the source of the DL's.I remember there used to be a Tp open port patch for XP, does vista need something similar?
View 9 Replies View RelatedNow to the point of the post. I installed Windows 7 RTM from MSDN when it got out (not sure about the build number, but it is RTM). My problem is that it has this nasty bug as far as I can see.
I use uTorrent for file sharing and so on, but when the bandwidth gets max'ed out, my connection with the router dies. Before you jump out with conclusions and some questions I must add that the router is perfectly set-up, using WPA2-PSK, connecting 3 computers in total. I did not have this issue on XP Pro, I did not have this issue in Vista SP1/SP2 but I do have it on 7 RTM Ultimate.
I do own another laptop with Vista (no SP installed) and it acts the same sometimes but not as often as this PC does. The only solution so far was to restart the router, keep it offline for 10 secs then turn the power back on. Then the router resends IP info and so on and the PC's internet connection works again. My drivers are properly installed and are 7 certified and so on. So as far as I can see, there is a bug with 7 or something. I thought it was because of the max half-open connection settings, but as far as I can see my build has no limitations, only the RCs had so there's nothing I can do there. UAC is turned off, so is every firewall except for the router's which is perfectly set-up.
I do not know what to do more.
IPv6 is also checked out, as I read on another forum that it could be problem (and also the solution for others).
This only happens when using P2P programs (as far as I can tell) because when I download/upload something via FTP clients or Firefox even...it doesn't go offline. This is some weird behaviour.
I also sent an e-mail to Microsoft telling them about this and they simply replied that my version is beta. I did add the fact that my version is RTM (which I remember that stands for 'Release to Manufacturing' which could mean it's a final of sorts) but they haven't replied ever since, totally ignoring the issue (they did tell me that in the RTM this problem was solved - but I couldn't find a single person saying that the final versions of the RC had this bug anymore and still, the RTM has it).
I have also read that first Vista RTM had this problem as well and it was solved in SP1, but the fact is that Microsoft does not emphasize on this matter, did not release any separate fix or info, all they say is that if you install SP1 to Vista then you need not worry anymore.
It is annoying to have issues, and especially pressing issues like this one (I simply can't stand it anymore as I can not even browse the net sometimes because of this bug or whatever it is).
So my system have BSOD'd 5 times today, after reformatting it last month due to multiple BSODing of the same nature. After examining what I've been doing on my system today, it appears that uTorrent may be the culprit, as it only seems to be happening when the application is open. This could be a coincidence though as the blue screens seems to happen sporadically. This is the error that pops up after I reboot.

I am having some issues with Windows 7 and my network bridge. I currently have it setup like this...modem -> router -> laptop -> wireless bridge. The problem is whenever I have the bridge enabled, the port I have open for utorrent is blocked. When I disable the network bridge the port is open again. I have the port open on my router so I dont think thats the problem.
When the bridge is disabled, I use a static IP and everything works well. When the bridge is enabled and I use a static IP, nothing works (not even firefox) and if I don't use a static IP utorrent gets blocked but Firefox works fine.
I was running WinXP before I moved to Windows 7 and there was never a problem...I could have the bridge enabled and it wouldn't effect my utorrent at all.
I've been getting a series of BSODs on my laptop recently. It appears they only occur while uTorrent is running - which is rather puzzling seeing how I've used it for months without issues and I have made no changes to it recently (it also takes some time after the start of the program for Windows to crash, so I'm not entirely sure uTorrent is really the culprit.)Incidentally I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my 1.5 years old laptop. Windows came preinstalled and has been reinstalled by the Sony support less than 5 months ago (together with a new HD and motherboard)[CODE]
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having some trouble with utorrent and getting an open port, I narrowed the problem to either windows firewall or kaspersky 8 or even both. If i disable firewall and kaspersky I can get an open port, but once I turn them on utorrent slows down indicating the port is not open. I have included utorrent as allowed in widows firewall but same problem. Has anyone had same prob or got some advice on what I should try?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhy Bitdefender firewall blocks utorrent port only on windows 7?
I'm using Windows 7 ultimate RTM with all the updates, utorrent 1.8.5 and bitdefender Internet security 2010. The firewall is set to "allow known programs" and utorrent was put automatically on "allow", but if I try a port test it shows that port doesn't appear to be open.
I had the same settings on my windows vista ultimate and the port was always open.
I'm getting BSOD somewhat randomly and frequently. It always seems to happen when I'm running UTorrent and Windows Media Player Classic or several programs at one time. I built my PC so I know it will have more stability issues than a typical PC but I get BSOD more frequently than I should. Frequently the driver at fault is ntoskrnl.exe, tcpip.sys, or ntfs.sys.
