Jan 20, 2012My grandson is using my HP laptop, with Windows 7 64 bit. I am trying to set up Parental Controls and have set up a standard user account for him. However, there is no pane for the User Controls when I click on his account in Control Panel>User Accounts and Family Safety>Parental Controls, it tries to set up Windows Family Safety instead (and fails). I presume I need to set up parental controls first, so does anyone know how I can make it access the User Controls? I can't find any help, especially not on Microsoft sites which merely presume that you can access the controls.

Mar 31, 2011I was fiddling around with parental controls on my own computer seeing as how I thought it would be a good way to limit myself after school forcing me to do my homework/read/study.I made a new standard user account to see how it would work. Shortly after, I made the standard account an administrative account and put parental controls time limit options on my old original administrative account. I changed my mind shortly after this, and as I remember I deleted the standard account, and turned off parental controls on my original account.The next day, I come back home and I can't login because of parental controls. This is the only user account on the computer, and it is a full administrative account. How do I turn this off without having the ability to even get on window's itself? I'm on Windows 7, using Windows's Parental Controls.

I can't get in to his profile to log him out, of course, unless I disable the parental controls first. How can I force another user to log out from my profile?

Now when I go to parental controls, I click an account and it says that it is unable to make changes to parental control settings, and contact System Adminstrator. It was working fine before, and only started recently. I tried making new accounts or placing restrictions on another account, the error still pops up. My system is 32 bit.

Jun 8, 2012I've had an xbox for several years now. A few years ago I set up my computer to stream music to my xbox. It was cool for awhile and it worked fine, but eventually I just stopped using it. Today I decided I would use it again, but I found that wasn't working. No problem, its been a few years and sometimes settings just get lost. I go out on the web to find a guide again that would tell me how to do it, which led me to [URL]. At the part where I name my library and hit "OK", my "OK" button is grayed out. I know I could try and set up windows media center again. Again, I went to Xbox's support at [URL]. Everything was set up fine and dandy and everything worked.
I get back on my desktop to check something in my "My Music" folder. I get the "You need administrative privileges pop-up", which i thought was weird but i hit continue and it worked fine. Now, whenever i try to open ANY folder, sub-folder, or file, not only does it try to tell me I need admin privileges, once i hit continue it says that i don't have permission to that folder, etc. I think that if I were to go in and reset all the permissions that everything would be fine, but I've got a pretty large library and it could take forever to do that. Is there a simpler way, or a setting that I can change so that Windows Media Center doesn't block me from my own files?

Jul 25, 2011I'm in grave problem here. I just installed windows 7 x64 a few days back. And initially I installed the 32bit version of k-lite codec pack for my windows media player. The media center worked fine then. It was loading my ffdshow and ac3filter along as I checked it.But then yesterday I noticed that the same pop-up od recommended/express install of WMP came again. Initially I thought that it must be some bug or something, but then when my MKV and AVI files didn't work in WMC, I realized that somehow WMP x64 got triggered, and now it is using the x64 bit of WMP in WMC. And I just wanna revert back to 32-bit WMP in WMC.

Jan 15, 2009I have checked two seperate DVD movies and they stop after the splash screens, FBI warning and Corporate logos, and never make it to the DVD menu.
This DVD player is an external player and I have no problem with playback on my Dual boot with Vista Home Premium.

Media Player And Media Center Cannot Play DVD
Dec 20, 2009I can't get eithe WMP or MC to play a DVD. I've set the region code. WMP acts like it will play, but then just goes blank, and MC says it cannot play the DVD. These are original discs, not burned copies. I have a custom built system, with 2 graphics cards (GTX 260 and a GT 220) 6 GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jan 31, 2011Have a Dell Vostro 3500 running Win 7 32 bit. When trying to view a pdf from within IE, it will attempt to open it with Windows Media Center. Adobe Reader has been installed, and when checking file assocaitions in Windows and IE, they are set to Adobe Reader. Now, if you save the pdf to the desktop, or some other location on the hard drive, it will then open with Adobe Reader as it should.

On my main computer I have added my folders of music and movies to the libaray ....
In the HTCP remote computer I set the home group etc ... I open Media Center .. I can scroll to shared and see my main computer but non of the files appear.
I have gone to the main computer and checked share this folder etc ... Still cant view the files.

DVD Playback Problem In Media Center
Jun 22, 2009While playing a DVD in Windows 7 Media Center (in version 7100, 7203, and 7260) that has been copies to the hard drive (in Video_TS format with AnyDVDHD-v6.5.5 running in the background), and using the My Movies plugin (tried both v2.54 and the new v2.55), if I press STOP on my Media Center Remote, the DVD stops, but is more in a Paused state. Let me see If I can clarify what is going on.
1. DVD's in Video_TS format play fine, can pause, FF, Rew, etc without any issues.
2. If I press stop, the DVD does stop. Then I would normally hit the BACK button to go back to the movie list. However, when I hit the BACK button I go to a new blank screen (with the media center blue background). I then hit BACK again, and am takin to a screen with movie details. If I hit BACK a third time, I would then return to the movie list.
3. However, once back in the movie list, I can see the stopped DVD in the lower left corner of the screen.
4. I can't seem to stop the movie like in Vista Media Center (which would automatically take me back to the movie list.
5. Also, if I click on the movie in the lower left corner of the screen, it comes up and starts the movie from where I left off. With Vista Media Center, a stopped movie would actually start over from the beginning.
Has anyone seen this problem, and know of a way to make it work like Vista Media Center?
Media Center - DVD Audio Setting
Jul 3, 2009need help in changing the DVD Audio setting under MC, DVD Audio setting menu. I want to change the audio setting to "Theatre Mode", instead of "Night Mode" ... to provide a full range of sound, but this option is grayed out. Does anybody know how to change this ..
I tried changing it under Media Player but it does not affect the Media Center setting.
