Maintain Dual Monitor Configuration When Mass-upgrading To Windows 7 From XP?

Jul 19, 2012

it's possible to maintain a dual monitor, extended desktop configuration when moving a relatively large network from XP Professional to 7 Enterprise. As it stands now, after the Win 7 image finishes installing the secondary monitor does not automatically attach leaving the user to have to do so when they log on for the first time. We have seen cases where the second monitor does attach, but the primary monitor has switched.how to set the secondary monitor to attach at first logon essentially maintaining the former XP extended desktop configuration?

Windows 7 Not Recognizing Second Monitor For Dual Monitor?

Jul 4, 2011

This computer is running an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro. It does support dual monitors...(I've had dual monitors active on this card before, but never on Windows 7.) But since installing windows 7, I can't even get it to detect the second monitor. I want to run the setup with the CRT as the primary monitor and the HD as the secondary.

Dual Monitor - GF 8800GTS 650M 512MB DDR3 DUAL DVI TV PCIE

Jun 4, 2009

I was having a problem with dual monitor using 7127 build. But only when I use newest NVIDIA drivers. My tv just flashes a few times, and I can see that fish a couple of times, but then it just goes to like no signal. If I use default drivers which are installed on windows install, then it works fine, but then I dont have NVIDIA control panel and some other features.

My video card is GF 8800GTS 650M 512MB DDR3 DUAL DVI TV PCIE. I would like to know if anyone else is having this problem and If it has been fixed in the newest build, so I could be arsed to do a clean install.

Dual Monitor Setup - Fullscreen Goes On Wrong Monitor

Aug 14, 2012

I am running a dual monitor setup with my TV hooked up via HDMI to my laptop.

Everything was working fine before, I always had the laptop as my main display yet I could play a video or a game fullscreen on the TV.

Since a couple of days, as soon as I put something in fullscreen, it immediately goes on my laptop, regardless if it's open on my TV or my laptop. I don't remember changing/installing anything that could've changed that...

I checked a bit in the AMD vision software and the Windows control pannel but I can't seem to solve my problem without switching my TV as the main display. I also made a quick search on google as well as here but the problems were mainly with Flash, which isn't in cause here.

Here are my system specs:

Toshiba Satellite L75D
Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
AMD Radeon 6520G

Dual Monitor Issue, Secondary Monitor Is Undetectable

Jan 6, 2010

I have just did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate from XP and I am unable to get my dual monitors to work like they did in XP.

I have a DVI Radeon graphics card plugged into the agp slot, and a Nvidia geforce vga adapter plugged into a pci slot of my dell optiplex 755. When I am in the screen resolution settings the second monitor cannot be detected.

In bios I have 2 options under primary video adapter and they are auto, and onboard card. When set to auto the Nvidia card gets a signal but the Radeon does not. There are no conflicts in the device manager, and all of the drivers are up to date.

When I change the bios option to onboard card the Radeon adapter gets a signal but the other monitor cannot be detected and in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Standard VGA adapter and a code 10 error that states the device could not be started.

I have powered down, and unplugged every cable, I also tried to use the integrated VGA adapter to the Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller but the computer will not even boot. I get

"System Halted

Attention Unsupported Video Configuration Detected"

I have two monitors, both work fine as standalone but Windows will not detect either as a secondary.

Please help me someone, I am so used to having my helpdesk email open in one monitor and all of my other work in the other monitor.

Configuration On Dual Displays

Jun 14, 2012

I might not be asking this the right way, but let me try to elaborate.I have a W7 64 bit PC with an ATI Radeon HD 5570 video card. I have my monitor connected and I have a flatscreen TV that is connected to the video card through an HDMI cable. When I want to watch content through my PC on my flatscreen I have to go into Control Panel/Display and manually change the setting to dual display. Is there not a way to automatically send the signal without having to get into the Control Panel?

Duel Monitor / Resolution Issue After Upgrading

Oct 31, 2009

So I upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit home edition. I am running a duel monitor setup, the primary monitor is a 24 inch monitor running at 1920 by 1980 and a 19 inch secondary monitor running at 1280 by 1024 (it's the highest resolution that monitor can do.) My video card is two SLI'd nvidia geforce 240 1gb cards.

Before I upgraded, I didn't have any issues with the two monitors (using extended desktop.) Now after the upgrade, the secondary monitor is not 'filling the screen'. It's squished the image up and is leaving one inch of the monitor on the left side empty. When you move the mouse between the two monitors it skips over that space as if it isn't there.

Now, it's not a fault with the monitor, I tried adjusting settings and the image remains squished. I also tried using the nvidia control panel to adjust the resolution manually but that doesn't seem to work either. I'm running the latest release version of nvidias drivers, haven't tried a beta yet.

Suggestions on how to get it to use the whole monitor again like it used to? Because this is really annoying.

Edit: Upon more fiddling, I have found it isn't using about half an inch of the screen on the right side of the monitor either. And the desktop is extended down below the base of the screen, though I cannot tell how far.

Odd Configuration: Setting Up Dual Monitors

Nov 1, 2009

Ok, so I just added Windows 7 to my lineup. After an epic battle with permission problems between XP and 7, I finally managed to fix it and have moved on to a slightly more odd yet annoying problem- my dual monitors.

The way I used to have my monitors set up was my monitor on the right had my task bar and icons... but the monitor on my left was the main monitor. That way when a program opened it would open on my left monitor (which is right in front of me) while still allowing me complete access to everything under my taskbar and all my icons to my right.

Is there any way to do that in Windows 7? When I select "Make this my main display" it moves the task bar over to that monitor, which is annoying. Any suggestions?

Note: for those of you curious on how to do this in XP or Vista- pick the monitor you want to be your main monitor (the one programs open on) and pick the one you want to have your taskbar. Let's use my setup- main monitor on the left/Task bar and stuffs on the right).

- Go to display, right click on the right monitor and uncheck "attached". This will turn it off. Now all you have is the left monitor with taskbar and stuff all over it.

- Right click the right monitor again. Check "attached" AND "Primary". Click apply. Right monitor turns back on. Everything refreshes and task bar is on the right monitor.

- Right click left monitor and click "Primary". Task bar + icons are still on the right monitor, but now all programs open on the left one.

Want To Delete An OS From A Dual Boot Configuration ?

Running bcdedit shows the the Win 7 as drive C and XP as drive D. The master boot record, I am guessing, in is drive D.

So how do I get the master boot record into the Win 7 partition so I can delete the partition containing the XP OS?

Dual Monitor Desktops In One Monitor?

Feb 3, 2011

I'm using a television (32p) as a second monitor in extended mode so that I can watch a movie in the TV and play a game in the monitor (this was my main goal). Monitor and TV lays in two different ambients, both connected to the same pc, one by normal VGA cable and the other by HDMI. I managed to differentiate the audio output so that VLC player sends it's audio to the HDMI (so that only the TV plays it) and the rest of system sounds, media players and games outputs to the speakers (basically only the VLC audio is directed to another output device). I reached my goal so that I can watch a movie fullscreen in the TV and play a game in the monitor fullscreen too without any interference from one another (nor audio or video).

The thing is, because I have the TV in another ambient I can't actually see what's going on in it, as I just "throw" the VLC window to the TV from my main monitor. And here's the question: There's a way to see the TV's desktop in my monitor? Without having to set it as main monitor so to not really switch between desktops.. The perfect thing would be if I could see the TV's desktop in a window like in remote desktops applications.

Interal Network Security With Dual Router Configuration?

Jun 4, 2012

I was a bit of a loss and maybe it's because I have been out of the game for a long time but I came across a disturbing development. I call century link because my router was not connecting at the proper speed of 7 mbps. That problem was easily remedied over the phone but the lady said she could see several devices connected. This lost me a bit because I have a double router configuration. The Actiontech PK5000 i turned into nothing more that an internet modem. I disabled the DHCP and configured my Linksys E1200 for all the internal DHCP so there is only one cable going to the PK5000. I should technically speaking look like one user on there network with natural protection from the second router. I may be kidding myself or man I'm getting old but if someone can tell me how that works it would be fun to know and what would even be funner to know is how to stop it

I was trying to maximize this window by dragging clicking it at the top and dragging it all the way to the top to maximize, but it centers in the middle?

Need To Maintain Windows 7 OS?

Jan 28, 2012

I have read several posts about issues with this already.I had an ECS P4M800 Pro-M V 2.0 with a Pentium 4 2.88. I had a primary and secondary hard drive as well as a DVD RW on it. My brother-in-law originally build the computer some years ago. I got the dreaded call the other day, "Honey, the computer won't turn on."DOA, fried MOBO. I ordered a Biostar A880 G + MOBO with integrated graphics, audio and LAN cards. Popped in an AMD Athlon 2 X 3 3.3G and two DDR 3 2G Ram sticks.Fired that puppy up on my old hard drive. It ran through some system checks, and nada. I keep getting back to nothing.I had a system backup set up to run, but the destination drive ended up being full, (without my realizing it) and now I'm up shit creek becuase the drive won't boot. I've got some important business stuff on that drive, which I know I can recover, but I would just like it to get up and run.

Dual Monitor Layout Randomly Reverting In Windows 7?

Apr 11, 2012

I have been using dual monitors in windows 7 for at least a year or more. For a long time I had it set up with monitor two over monitor one, but now I have altered the physical layout to side by side and want the monitors to reflect this. I have changed it to being side by side in the appropriate windows settings location and in the NVIDIA control panel both, yet when I open a new program (whether it is a game, browser, or media player) it changes back to the old over/under set up. Is there some way I could lock it to the side by side?

Dual Monitor Woes In Windows 7 Media Centre?

Oct 31, 2009

I've got two nice little 1680 x 1050 20.1" Dell S-IPS monitors, which are de-facto 16:10 units, mounted on an Ergotron stand, with the intention of using one for television and the other for computing purp's.My Graphics card is a capable Palit HD4850 Sonic with dual DVI outputs. It's also got an S-Video output which isn't in use. What I would like to do is run WMC maximised on one monitor, with TV there as and when I wish to view anything, and naturally I wish to use this screen maximised (the only issue in WMC is that there is a limitation of either choosing 4:3 or 16:9 ratio output, and not 16:10).However when I connect both monitors vai DVI output Windows7 locks my cursor in the maximised TV screen and I then cannot control the primary PC monitor whatsoever - which is somewhat of a complete farce, and is an extremely dissappointing result!Accordingly I have to drag the WMC display to get the 16:9 output to 'almost' fill the 16:10 monitor, and then face the annoyance of the cursor drifting to that screen from my PC monitor from time to time (I can happily live with a band to allow for the 16:9 ~ 16:10 hardware differential... but not this ridiculous loss of cursor control!)Question is this... why does my cursor focus get restricted to one screen if the Windows Media Centre is maximised? The whole point of having dual-monitors is being able to use both of them at once of course.I've tried with the ATi driver alone, and with the Catalyst suite loaded, with no differences to the issue. My monitors also have an S-Video input, but I've not got an S-Video cable to hand right now - however... if I were to use S-Video for one monitor would I avoid the 'locked in cursor' problem?

Dual Monitor - BSOD

Nov 12, 2009

I have just built a new machine the last three weeks and finally last night I was ready to complete my final transfer from old to new computer. That meant adding my 2nd monitor to my new machine.

My graphics card is a GeForce 9400gt. I have the latest drivers from Nvidia's web site. New machine with Windows 7 has been working for 2 weeks with a single monitor.

Both monitors are fairly new. The graphics card has one DVI and one VGA input so I must set up my dual monitors that way,

My problem is when I hook up my 2nd Monitor I get the BSOD. I will spend 1 more night trying to fix it but that is it.

So my questions are as follows:

1. Does anymore have any ideas why The BSOD comes up when my 2nd monitor is plugged in?

2. Does anyone using Windows 7 have a working graphics card with a dual monitor set up that is working? If so, what card is it? I may be buying one tomorrow.

Dual Monitor Setup

Dec 1, 2009

i have:

Windows XP pro (32 bit)

nVida GeForce FX 5200 has VGA;DVI;SVideo

ok heres what i did b4

i had 2 monitors one vga one and one dvi one and i hooked it up and i had i good dual monitor setup but when ever i loaded some programs the would give me a bsod screen and restart for example fsx dark basic and others that change resolution.

now....

i re installed nvida drivers and there updated (i think)

i have the DVI monitor hooked up right now with 1 display only

i have the desktop manager software enabled and running and the Nvida control pannel running.

and what i want to now is that i want to have a horizontal span setup (reason):

ok well i have seen that FSX can run on 2 monitors and that you can have a really cool display with both displaying images can i do this on a dual monitor setup or not or do i need to get a better card (preferably not)?

What to i do now?

ok so do i go to set up multipul monitors and do it that way or is there another way to do it better theres one last question, well i herd from a friend that in the display options like when you right click in the desktop then goto properties then settings. the friend said that there was an option to enable dual monitor support. before i had my setup i did not see that option and neither do i now im guessing that i don't have 2 monitors hooked up now.

I am obsessed about getting this to work so if i am making any of you people here mad i'm sorry and Thank-You for the help that you have given me recently, btw i got my processor to work and i got it hyperthreaded..

Dual Monitor Support

Mar 2, 2009

Anyway i have 2 22" LCD Monitors and when i plug them in. Windows 7 does this weird thing were when you select the option to extend the desktop spanning from left to right. Instead of simply scrolling from the left screen to the right screen with your hand as you usually would with any OS, Windows 7 BETA somewhat reverses it were you have to scroll to the left from your 1st monitor to get the 2nd monitor. (sorry if this is really confusing im having a differculty writing this also haha)

And if you select your monitor on your left to be your primary monitor, it will wont do that it will move the it to your right monitor instead so i decided to physically switch the monitors around on my desk to get it normal. but i don't like the idea of my computer telling me what to do hahaha.

I know its a beta OS but its still based somewhat on vista. ive got the latest drivers for my graphics card and my graphics card is a NVIDIA 260GTX so its pretty meaty and it can do dual monitor fine on other os's.

Dual Monitor RDP To XP Computer

Aug 8, 2009

I've searched the internet far and wide as well as these forums and have not been able to find the answer. Unfortunately, my sister-in-law's dog killed my 2nd monitor so I haven't been able to test on my own since installing the RC version last week. (new monitor will arrive next week)

My question:

If you RDP in Windows 7 from a computer with dual monitors to an XP computer with dual monitors is the multimon support available?

I want the session to feel as though I'm at work with dual monitors.... not just spanning the 2 monitors. My work computer runs windows xp.

Currently the only way to get this functionality in xp is to use the span command and to use add-in 3rd part software that does not work that great.
