Lost Wired Network Connection Overnight

Aug 19, 2012

I have two PCs cabled directly to a Netgear WNDR4500 router. This morning, my Windows 7 PC had no network connection when I turned it on. These computers don't get moved, I wasn't messing with the cables beforehand. Everything was fine yesterday. The Troubleshooter suggested I had a broken cable. I tried another cable, but it still would not work. I connected the Windows 7 machine to the same router connection my XP machine uses, but it still did not work.Device Manager reports the Network Adapter is working properly. The system tray network icon reports "Not connected/No connections are available." The Troubleshooter reports, "A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken." I tried disabling/enabling the Local Area Connection, but it still reports "Network cable unplugged." My gut feeling is that the Ethernet jack on the motherboard is physically broken. But it blows my mind that it would break for no reason.Could an automatic update of some sort disabled networking in a way that it only appears the cable is bad? Could the physical connection at the back of the machine spontaneously break? I suppose I could go buy a network card, which would be cheaper than replacing the motherboard. I'm gonna get cleaned up and head to the store now.

Disable Internet On Wired Connection But Still See Network Computers

Jun 16, 2010

The wireless is one I share with my roommates and is fast. The wired NIC connects to a router which has slower internet. The reason I connect to the wired router is so my PC can talk to a linux machine, which I use for some data downloading/analysis.I want to disable internet from the wired connection but keep the ability to talk to other machines on the wired network. I just changed the IPv4 settings and deleted the DNS server information. Is this the best way to do so? I want the wireless to provide internet.

Internet Connection Lost, Cannot Find Network.

Nov 25, 2009

My desktop has recently been upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate from XP. I set up a home group at another location, then returned the desktop to my normal connection. The wireless card I used was a D-Link that is XP compatible only, and I found this out after attempting to install, then I checked on it later. I deleted the driver, and tried a Netgear WT111G USB wireless card. Install failed, and I went online to look for a compatible driver.

I downloaded a driver, installed it, and the wireless card was detected, but could not connect to the internet. Uninstalled the driver, and tried plugging into Ethernet, and cannot find my home connection. Can only get into network settings (home, work, public).

Has any one here heard about this problem after creating a homegroup? Trying to troubleshoot, but it's a specific problem I'm not familiar with as of yet.

The faulty drivers are no longer on the PC, but it's still unable to find a direct wired connection.

Unidentified Public Network And Internet Connection Lost

Jul 22, 2011

I had problems with my computer not connecting to the network sometimes after restarting my computer. That was usually fixed by simply unplugging and replugging into my outlet. I have a hard wire connection and my ethernet cable gets plugged into the wall and connects to the modem/router (whichever it is) from there. After I reset my computer this morning though, my computer has absolutely refused to connect to the network. I've tried resetting the router/modem and unplugging and replugging in my Ethernet cable. I noticed however in the network center it showed me connected to Network 8 (my standard home connection) for a few seconds but then it changes to unidentified public network and breaks connection to the Internet. Wireless is working fine and I'm infact typing all this on my iPhone 4.

Cannot Use Wired Ethernet Connection

Jul 23, 2012

Recently the power went out in my house. Ever since the power has come back on, I haven't been able to use my wired internet connection. When I look at my devices, my Intel 82566 Gigabit Network Connection has the status "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device." I've tried re-installing and updating the driver, but I can't tell whether I've done this successfully. In any event, it still doesn't work.

No Wired Connection To PC - Getting Yellow Icon

Jul 6, 2011

I have AT&T U-Verse with a 2Wire (3801 HGV) router. I've had the service for about a month without any issues. As of now, I am able to connect to the internet using WiFi (via my Wii, iPhone, and Laptop), but when trying to make a WIRED connection (via ethernet cable from the 2wire router directly to the PC), all I get is a yellow icon.

If I unplug the ethernet cable and plug it back it, the blue circle appears for a while, then back to the yellow error icon. In the Network and Sharing Center, I am showing my PC with a broken connection (yellow triangle) to "Unidentified Network with a broken "red X" connection the Internet. I thought maybe it was the ethernet cable, so I tried a wired connection from the router to my laptop (also running Windows 7) and it works just fine, so I've determined it must have something to do with the PC itself.

I've tried doing a system rollback, resetting the router itself, made sure the network driver on the PC was up to date and ran the test to make sure it's working properly.....all with no luck. I've tried using Windows to diagnose the problem and I get "Problems Found: Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration". What baffles me is it was working fine up until a few days ago.

Wired Internet Connection Keeps Dropping Out

Jul 1, 2012

I am currently at a hotel and am using their wired internet connection. Everything has been working fine until this weekend when I find that the connection keeps dropping out...specifically:

1) Unable to connect when I plug the network cable into computer on startup...have to plug and remove a couple of times till it connects.

2) Connection drops out every 5-10 minutes or so....have to either unplug and replug cable or enable/disable my network adapter on my laptop a couple of times for it to start up again.

3) The connection problem affects random programs but always internet explorer. I can be on yahoo messenger and msn messenger and even an online game and they won't be affected when the connection drops and internet explorer goes out. However, if I log off any of these programs, then I will have a problem getting back on until I repeat the connection methods listed above. Additionally, some IE pages will continue to function for a while if I click the links in them...just cannot access any new pages...

4) sometimes the connection will drop out but it will show that I am still connected in my taskbar at the bottom of my screen.

Everything else on the computer seems to be working fine, wireless also seems to be working too.

Windows 7 Intermittently Drops Wired Connection?

May 3, 2011

When I'm disconnected, I lose all connectivity both to the internet and on the local lan, so pinging (for example) Google will time out, but also pinging 192.168.1.1 (the router's lan ip address) will also time out

Fix : Start -> dev manager -> network adapter. Double click, open her up and then under "advanced", take a look at "Link Speed & Duplex".

If this is set to auto-negotiation, try re-setting it to 10 or 100mbps Full Duplex, re-start your computer.

It's the network driver that costs me hours of hunting & searching. MOTHERBOARD : ASUS IPIBL-LB Integrated LAN : Realtek 8111C 10/100/1000 Mb/s (Gigabit Ethernet)

I was able to access the normal Linksys wireless setup page at 192.168.0.1 and set up a network fine. I then unplugged my ethernet cable and attempted to connect to the network and was not able to. Wired Internet Connection Working With XP, But Not Windows 7?

Oct 4, 2012

My Dell Dimension C521 died on me maybe 6 months ago. It has Windows XP on it.

I put it to the side and bought a HP Pavilion G7 laptop to replace it with, which came with Windows 7 Home Premium. From what I remember I just plugged my ethernet cable into it at the time, and I was able to use my Virgin Media connection straight away, didn't have any problems.

So last week I finally repaired the old Dell and I've been using it for about a week now, while the new laptop sat unused in the other room. Now, today when I try to use the laptop again to connect to the internet, it doesn't want to play ball; troubleshooting the connection comes up with 'The default gateway is not available'.

I didn't change anything or do anything, I just didn't use it for a week and now it won't connect to the internet. The only difference I can see is one machine is XP and one is Windows 7...

I used the Windows 7 recovery disc to reinstall the OS hoping that would fix it (after a few system restores failed to address it), but no luck. When I ping my default gateway as it's shown in ipconfig, it comes back 'Request timed out' 3 times, then 'Destination host unreachable'.

"Tunnel adaptor 6T04 Adaptor: cable.virginmedia.net" doesn't have a Default Gateway listed, is this somehow relevant?

Regular Drops In Wired Internet Connection?

Feb 4, 2013

i'm having an issue where my internet connection will seemingly drop for a split second, and then reconnect.for example, i will be signed into irc and will have a momentary drop in connection which boots me out, and then i will instantly reconnect.another example would be when watching a streamed video (Internet). i will be watching a video and then the buffering would stop, until i manually navigated to a couple of seconds later, and then buffering would continue.a final example would be in skype, where people are constantly getting connect/disconnect notifications from me.i've had a go at pinging google (-t) to see if it sheds any light on the frequency of disconnection. it has an average ping of about 35 ms, and will occasionally spike to roughly 130-150 every 7 lines or so. but other than that it has no difficulty pinging at all.

Samsung Netbook N102S Not Picking Up Wired Connection?

Now, I've replaced professional with Windows 7 Ultimate, and my wireless connection works fine, but I can't get a wired connection. When I plug an ethernet cable in, the icon in the system tray doesn't change to the square "wired connection" one, it just stays with the wireless one. The "wired connection" icon appears briefly during startup, only to be replaced again by the wireless one.I've tried to update the drivers for the ethernet controller, which is type Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller, but to no avail; the wired connection is not picked up.

Windows 7 Keeps Disconnecting Hard Wired Internet Connection?

Jan 31, 2011

I have all of my computers (4 of them) hard wired into the router. Then the other day my step-daughter needed to print something out from her computer that had a program on it that mine did not have and my computer is the only one with a printer (the kids 10 and she'll print out anything). So I created a home network so I could enable printer sharing and then the problems started. Now the internet on my machine and my machine only keeps losing my internet connection only when I wake up this machine from sleep mode (I guess it is going into to sleep mode) It is fine when I first turn it on in the morning (because of this problem I can longer just keep it on all the time - I have to shut it down at night). Anyway, if I walk away from my machine for a period of time, when I come back and wake it up it loses the internet connection and then everything is slow. So I have to shut it down and then when I restart it - everything is fine!

Wired Ethernet Connection Unstable, Dropping Every 5 Sec And Reconnects

Mar 27, 2012

I have had my computer for 3 years and it has worked great, i got a new router bout 4 months ago and it works great. about 2 weeks ago my desktop's connection which is wired, basically stopped working. It lets me get online, but the connection either keeps dropping or just doesnt work. Ive watched my connection and it will disconnect alot and instantly reconnect. I can get online but my page takes half a minute to load, and sometimes it just wont load and say it cannot connect to the web page. I have tried google chrome and media firefox and they dont work either. I have reset modem and router many times and that didnt help even a bit. I have switched routers and that didnt help either. In networking safe mode, my connection is completely stable and it runs fast and loads everything. I have ran norton and malawarebytes many times and my connection is still unstable. I have stwitched ethernet cords too and that didnt help either. I have two labtops and a ps3 and their connection works completely fine so it would just be my computer. Since it runs great in networking mode, it might be hardware but i dont know what. It might not be hardware though because i am nowhere near a computer knowledgable.

Wireless Internet Works, Wired Connection Doesn't Work

Dec 3, 2011

I formatted both my laptop and desktop computer. When i did with my laptop, everything was great. Wireless still worked. Of course i have my linksys router connected to get the wireless.

I then formatted my desktop. Its a dell. When i did this, everything seemed great. However, i noticed that if i remove my wireless router and just connect my cable modem wired, it works. However, when i connect my wireless router, then my wireless internet works but my WIRED connection does not work. It has this message that says can't connect.

I don't think this has ever happened before. I mean, there were many times where my desktop got formatted and my wired internet worked and i could not get my wireless connection to work. But never had i had my wireless work and my wired connection not work. The one thing i did this time was after i installed the drivers with my windows cd, i then deleted the old windows file that was about 25 gb.

Internet Access Randomly Drops On Wired & Wireless Connection?

Jul 18, 2012

I've got an older Acer Timeline 4810t running Windows 7. We recently switched from Cox Cable internet to AT&T U-Verse, and I've started noticing that my internet connection will randomly go out when I am connected. This occurs whether I am on a wired or wireless connection. Specifically, I will be browsing the web and, randomly, when I try to pull up a website, I get an error indicating that I cannot connect to that website because I am not connected to the internet. When I check the status of my connection in the bottom right corner, it will show that I am connected to the internet. If I disconnect the ethernet cable (or disconnect and reconnect to the wifi network), the internet service is restored, although it continues to randomly lose connection.

I initially thought that it was a U-Verse issue, so AT&T came out and replaced the router. Unfortunately, I still got the random drops. I then thought it was a Windows issue, so I reformatted by hard drive and reinstalled Windows - still having that issue. My wife has an older Macbook and does not have this problem. We also do not have this problem with any of the tablets or phones that connect to the network wirelessly.I am beyond frustrated and do not know what to do. I also don't know if this is a sign that my laptop is at the end of its life, which would be unfortunate since I've only owned the laptop for about 3 years (my last laptop, a Dell, is on year 7 and still churning).

Wired Network Issue

Dec 29, 2009

I've been searching around for a fix to my issues but I cant seem to find one so Ill try just taking a stab in the dark and seeing if anyone will reply.

Now..

I am using my on-board RTL8168C NIC to connect to a Netgear DG834Gv2 using a cat5 cable. My network connection state varies from full access to none at all. Sometimes I turn the computer on and it works fine, other times I have to disable then enable the NIC 5-10 times and eventually it works.....then doesn't work.

It also appears that when all the planets align, and for some reason or another I can actually get on the network...that the NIC gets "overloaded" with information then just disconnects me. Say for example, I can go around facebook and google, that sort of thing fine (when said connection is working) but say if I want to load up something like World of Warcraft it appears to break my connection.

I have tried using Gigabytes drivers on their webpage specific to my mobo, I have gone to Realteks website and used their latest drivers and I have also just used the bog standard windows 7 drivers, it appears when I do uninstall the device and then reinstall it with one of the drivers the device appears to work but then after 5-10 minutes maybe, the device fails me again.

I've been reading around and I have disabled the Bonjour service and set up the network as "Work" network.

This issue seems to come and go too. It appears to hang around from a day or 2, somehow repair itself and be fine for another 2-3 weeks and break again. Actually since Sunday I have been having this problem, Saturday I was pretty much downloading all day at my max 150kbps (Go go Australia's amazingly fast internet ) no problems at all.

We have 2 other computers on the network, 2 laptops, One using 7, the other using Vista, They do not have any issues at all.

Anyway, here are 2 IPConfig's One where my network connection is fine, The other where it is broken.

Local Only Network - Wired

Apr 27, 2009

Alright, so I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 build 7086 x64. Everything works just find, except my network adapters. I'll detail system specs after I explain the problem.

When i connect one of my cables, the computer attempts to identify the network. It doesnt. I check IPconfig, and it gets all DHCP information from my Linksys router, but no internet connection. I have IPv6 turned off on both adapters, as well as the VMnet adapters i use for VMware Workstation.

I attempt to ping google.com and it comes back, ping request could not find host

I attempt to ping the router, and says host unreachable.

(IPconfig data - Local Area Connection 2) (Local Area Connection 1 shows up the same with IPv4 Address 192.168.1.102)

Connection-specific DNS Suffix : oxfordnetworks.net

IPv4 Address : 192.168.1.103

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1

The Gateway itself sees the Win 7 computer, but when i ping from the router to 192.168.1.103, it times out.

Also, I attempted to update the network drivers using the Intel Pro v14 Vista x64 drivers, and the installer wouldnt let me install the drivers because of "software not built for your operating system".

Wired Or Wireless Network Perferred?

Aug 10, 2011

The output of the "print route" command on my Win7x64 system is shown below. The wireless adapter has been assigned to 198.168.2.72 by the router and the Gigabit wired connection has been manually assigned the static address 198.168.2.8The strange thing is that the gateway metric which I believe is used to decide which connection to use is 25 for the wireless connection (i.e. fast) and 276 (i.e. slow) for the gigabit wired connection. But I expected this to be the other way around. Why does it think the wireless onnection is faster? Does this mean that network traffic is generally routed thru the wireless adapter? Is there a way for me to tell which adapter is being used to route traffic?Should I believe its reported speed, or should I force the metrics so that the wired connection is used by default. If so, what commands are used to force this priority, and do these commands need to be repeated after every boot, or are the permanent?
