Lately I have been getting BSOD on a old but reliable Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop. The BSOD message I get is "Driver Power State failure". It does not happen regularly or follow a pattern. It is random (but follows Murphy's law and happens when I have not saved an important document
Perfmon.html and Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2.zip file is attached as a single .zip package.

My holiday upgrades have started and I upgraded a Dell Inspiron 1420 today, it was a good experience, however there were some very important drivers missing in the out of the box process that were easy enough to fix so I wanted to share the details for those who might not find this so obvious because you have a machine that works GREAT with Windows 7! First, verify what sound device and video device you have before you start this process it will provide some confidence in the steps here. The Dell Inspiron 1420 Im referring to had a SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio processor and a NVidia GeForce 8400GS Graphics processor. Windows 7 doesnt seem to know this hardware is part of the machine and so the drivers are completely missing, instead there is generic audio driver (enables the headphone jacks, but not the built-in speakers) and a generic VGA graphics adapter driver provided (that provides full resolution but no Aero support).
I just install fresh new window 7 on my dell ispiron 1420, but then no sound come out from my laptop. Before this I use window XP.I already install the sound device for my laptop but, error message comes out saying no sound device installed or maybe it's used by other application.
I´ve tried clean installation of Windows 7 32bit on my DELL Inspiron 6400 laptop.
My hdd has only 1 partition so i don´t think that is the issue. It all went smoothly: copying, expanding, installing features and updates, no problem. Then, the system showed me message - failed to log on and rebooted itself. I´ve tried everything with no results.
I´ve tried upgrade advisor which did not found any problems, i upgrade my Bios. I´ve also tried to install it from Usb flash drive using original Microsoft software.tried external dvd drive but nothing works.I don´t know what else to try.
I am running a Dell 9300 with Win 7 and I have purchased 2x1GB Crucial RAM that is sold as an upgrade package for the Dell 9300 (completely compatible.) I insert the RAM, computer recognizes it and boots to Win 7 logo at startup. There is hangs and does not boot.
Running Windows 7 Home on a Dell Inspiron. My account was setup as an administrator account and shows as such under account management. But upon boot up I get a message about not being able to run a startup program because I'm not logged in as an administrator. Also, when going to DOS prompt, I can't run chkdsk /f because I don't have the level of permission required.
My master boot record has become corrupted, but I can't even get to safe mode command prompt. When you press F8 at boot up and make the selection, the basic drivers start to load but halt at disk. I looked up these errors online, and it seems the consensus is to use the bootrec.exe /FixMBR command, or some flavor of such. But I can't even get that far! I've changed the Boot Order in BIOS so that an Installation DVD will take precedence, but I never get to the windows installation screen. It continues to try to boot from the hard drive and the cycle starts all over. I do have a copy of Acronis Backup 2009, I was able to have it boot, but I didn't have any options to open a command prompt. If this was a desktop, I'd simply open it up and install the drive in a good computer I have and work on it.
i tried installing windows 7 on dell inspiron n4110 but when it reaches the stage when i click on install now, it brings up this message 'install drivers from a cd/dvd/usb device'
