Installing Fedora On Windows Virtual PC?

Oct 24, 2011

A while ago, I installed Fedora 13 on my Windows Virtual PC with the help of an online guide that I cannot seem to find anymore. So, it DOES work, despite a few different threads out there trying to convince you that VirtualBox in the way to go.Now I'm trying to install Fedora 15, the current version. I'm sure Fedora 16 will be out in a couple of weeks, but I don't think that will make a difference.I did find this link, but it isn't the same. The old one I speak of had a setup guide in it and also showed you how to install a few applications so that Fedora Linux is a pleasant Operating System to work in. This one only shows a setup guide for the basic OS and I believe how to get your network working. When I followed this guide, I saw a blueish screen with a 10 second count-down, indicating that Linux was booting up. I had to readjust my settings a bit (RAM, specifically), as Windows Virtual PC gave me a notification that I was low on system resources. I at first put at at 3GB, then lowered it to 1.25 GB of RAM. My system has 4 GB. Throughout my installation attempt, I was watching my computer's Resource Monitor. The RAM was never maxed out, and CPU usage is not an issue at all.Could the problem be that I'm downloading the wrong file? I remember the old link I used mentioned something about Fedora Live. The name of this file I'm using is Fedora-15-x86_64-Live-Desktop.iso. That obviously seems like a Live file, to me. Only difference, is, I'm using the 64-bit version, as opposed to the 32-bit version because I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Installing A Virtual Printer On Windows 7

May 5, 2012

I used until now a virtual printer who makes PDF files and send them direct to an editor. It's called BoD_easyprint_de.It always worked on XP and now I was told that it works on Windows 7 64x. Just on my Windows 7 64x Laptop doesn't work. I can download the program and start installing it. Right at the end the installation stops, shows a problem by installing the driver and error 216 and closes the installation.

Installing Windows 7 With Virtual Drive

Jan 11, 2009

I'm not able to burn the image to a DVD because, well, I don't have a DVD burner. I figured I'd mount it to a virtual drive and install it to another partition that way, but it's been so long since I've used virtual drive software I'm not sure how I'd do it. Once I mount the image to a virtual drive (I will be using VirtualCloneDrive5), what do I do next? Secondly, my computer is an HP and all the recovery data (drivers) is on its own partition on the harddrive already. This means I can't access the drivers, though I can just download them off HP's site. My question is, though, will at any point during the Windows 7 installation will I be prompted to install any drivers? I don't want to be installing and then have it ask for drivers that I haven't burned to a disc yet.

Installing Windows 7 Upgrade In Virtual Machine (VMWare Mac Fusion)

Sep 5, 2011

I am doing a clean install using the upgrade DVD but on a virtual machine (on a Mac using VMWare Mac Fusion). Everything goes smooth and as per the tutorial except that once I arrive to the "Windows product key", it does not recognize the product key. I skipped that step and completed all other steps as indicated. However, I was unable to activate my windows 7 (last step) as it mentioned that the product is only for upgrade from older version and not for a clean install.

I do have windows XP copy but I would rather do a clean install.

I'm thinking of dual booting Windows 7 with Fedora 15. I had the installer of Fedora 15 in my freshly reformatted USB flashdrive and used LiveUSB Creator to convert Fedora 15's ISO to a bootable installer in my USB flashdrive. I also had already set the BIOS to boot first the removable media followed by the DVD drive. The trouble is, the Fedora 15 won't boot after resetting the PC. Windows 7 And Linux Fedora Dual Boot With Dual Drives?

Feb 4, 2011

dual booting windows 7 home premium x64 with linux fedora 14 on dual independantly dedicated drives. i am a college student with moderate computer (windows) knowledge but am doing software development and would like to play around with some linux for a class. i have no prior experience with linux and have minimal knowledge of operation. i am currently running windows 7 and would like to keep it as my primary os. i do not wish to share media files across drives or os's, windows does that just fine as is and i dont want to get into a third drive. my current drive is a 1tb wd black caviar hdd. it is also currently 2/3rds full and the desktop is about 6 months old so i would rather not partition the drive for a dual boot. i would think that there are some other advantages for the os's operating independantly off their own drives other than if one hdd dies i should still have the other with its os still ok. i have read some topics about RAID configs with dual boot setups with dual drives like this but am not very familiar with RAID. is there a RAID config that would be beneficial in this situation? i currently do not have a RAID card. my tower internals are not very accessible and i dont like the idea of disconnecting drives depending on which os i want to operate.

Windows 7 Virtual PC: "Cannot Attach The Virtual Hard Disk ..." Error?

Sep 6, 2012

Got a new Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit machine, found that it did not come with virtual PC. Downloaded the critical patch Windows6.1-KB958559-x64-RefreshPkg.msu and installed it. Windows Virtual PC shows up in my Start Menu. Good so far. I go through the steps to create a virtual machine and use the option to 'use an existing vhd file' and when I click 'Create' I get the above pop-up message "Cannot attach the virtual hard disk to the virtual machine. Check values and try again". A factual message but completely useless as with all error messages from Microsoft. I have tried the following:1. When I attach that vhd using Disk Management, it mounts in drive E:, I can see the files and browse the dirs in E:. In the Disk Management View, the drive shows up as 127 Gigs but 107 is unallocated space. The physical size of the vhd is only 25 Gigs2. Others in my company were able to create the virtual machine with the same vhd, checked the byte size and timing, so nothing is wrong with the vhd file itself.

3. Tried to create after shutting down all virus protection including the Micorsoft antimalware protection service. No luck4. Tried Vhd resize to resize the vhd to a smaller size (since it showed up in disk management as 127 Gigs, I thought maybe it was that size), but VHDResizer could not open the input file, gave an errors "Can only load fixed or dynamic drives"

Cannot Start Virtual Application, The Application Is Blocked From Running As A Virtual Application

Oct 26, 2011

Our office has an old program that we still need to use when upgrading our PC's to Windows 7. The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application. If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:

Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.

I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.

Migrate Virtual Windows 7 To New PC?

Is there any way I can migrate my Windows 7 professional to the new PC? I would like to completely format my HDD before moving it to my new machine and then reinstall my OS on it. It is a downloaded version so I haven't got a cd but it is legit, I have got the key and it is activated. Would there be a way to deactivate the key for this pc and then reactivate it on the new one with the same key?

Shutting Down Virtual XP In Windows 7?

Windows 7 And Virtual PC Networking

Jul 14, 2011

i am quite disappointed to see the lack of support for Microsoft's Virtual PC networking configurations. If there is anyone that can help me with this,I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 as primary OS installed. I have also installed Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (not Windows XP Mode). Inside this virtual machine, I have installed Windows XP Professional (x86). I need to have the Windows XP connect to Windows 7 via networking. According to most threads, I need to install Microsoft Loopback Adapter in Win 7 to be able to connect the VM to Win 7. I have configured the loopback adapter (on Win 7) to use IP 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0, no default gateway and DNS server addresses. On the virtual machine, I have set the LAN connection to use IP 192.168.1.2, subnet 255.255.255.0, no default gateway and DNS server addresses. No connection.

Windows Virtual PC Fail?

Aug 17, 2011

I wanted to setup a VPC starting with an image of my laptop but I'm having great difficultly, I'm running Windows 7 home premium x64.I started by using Acronis true image to take an image of my PC (a .tib). I then used Acronis true image to convert that to a vhd, however when trying to create a VPC using the vhd got a message that the vhd could not be attached. After some research I found that it was because the partition I imaged was 320GB and Windows Virtual PC could not handle it. Using diskpart I reduced the vhd partition size then using Vhd resizer to reduce the size. I was able to attach the vhd and start the virtual machine but received a message from Windows Boot Manager "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible", so I inserted the Windows home premium x64 DVD into the dvd drive but the virtual machine would not boot from it.

I could not do anything so I decided to start a new virtual machine and try and install windows from scratch. I created a fixed sized vhd using Windows Virtual PC, I inserted the Windows DVD into the drive and booted the virtual machine. This time virtual PC would allow me to boot from the DVD drive however I receive an error "Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible with 64-bit mode" but this is the version of Windows I am running on my PC.I have also downloaded Securable to ensure that Windows Virtual PC will work I get a maximum bit length of 64 and Yes for both hardware D.E.P and Hardware Virtualization.
