I am using windows 7 with a new samsung notebook. The problem is I can turn the laptop on and it shows icons on the screen. But the icons doesn't work whenever you click on them only the pictures does. I can't use the internet as well. The start icon doesn't work either. This just happened last night.

I've been having problems right or left clicking on my desktop icons (the ACTUAL icons). Strangely enough, my start menu and task bar work fine and I can right click on the desktop but not on the actual icons. Also, my dell gadgets work fine.
It seems as if someone placed a window over my icons and I can't click them at all. I know it's a minor thing but it's a bit inconvenient at times.
Here are some things I tried so far: apparently there was a IE-related desktop problem so I disabled all my IE9 addons -nothing changed
Using the task manager, I shut down explorer.exe and restarted it; still can't click on the icons -note: when i shut down explorer.exe (my icons looked the same, and an "image" of my task bar was still there - showing that I had chrome and iTunes open but at that moment I wasn't using those applications.)
I did a clean install of Win 7 32bit last week and I am facing this issue once in a while. The desktop icons can't be used I can't click or select any icon, also right click of the mouse doesn't work. I can right click on the taskbar or in windows explorer but not on the desktop. Even show desktop icon doesn't work when the above happens. There is no specific time when this happens or it doesn't happen after running a particular program so I can't figure out what is the reason for this random fault.

I have cleared all the data "from the beginning of the time" several times but no use. All the pages come back after Windows is restarted.I have also reinstalled chrome & waterfox but they all come back after a reboot.I have tried CCLeaner and Glary Utilities as well...But none helped?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI received my sony vaio 15.5 eb series i3-370m laptop today. However, the left click on touchpad right clicks. Support told me its a hardware issue that cannot be fixed and that they can send someone over. Also, if i want to close the firefox window... pressing the left or right click works which is a problem with this touchpad. The scrolling of the touchpad however has no problem though. Would you guys suggest i sent this laptop back instead? If they send someone to come and repair it, they would have to open the laptop and i don't think that is good for the long run of Should i just request a new one instead?I would assume i don't have to pay the extra $50 now correct? The battery life i notice is around 2 hours just web browsing. I am thinking if i should just return it and get a sager 5135 because i heard battery life is 3 hours and it offers 1080P. But i know that laptop does not look as good as a sony one. I will mainly play online poker with applications on it and browse and listen to music.I just talked to support and did trouble shooting and installed a driver. What is funny now is that the left and right click buttons don't even work anymore. However, the left click and button button works if i click on those items on my taskbar such as internet explorer and windows explorer. But if i click it a 2nd time, a new explorer will show up. I cannot click on anything besides those 3 items on my taskbar with the left/right click now.Someone said this is a setting issue but i did everything with settings and it doesn't work. Sony support though say this is a a hardware issue and because when i plug an external mouse and it works perfectly fine, its the hardware and i would need to have a sony technician come over.Would you say my buttons work fine based on what is happening? I have checked the settings for it and everything is fine. This is so frustrating.

This can be resolved by right clicking on a blank spot in the program I am running. This has happened in Windows Explorer, Lord of the Rings Online, or even on the desktop. I have tried two different mice, re-installed the drivers for both, updated the video drivers.....everything I could think of short of using a restore point. The only software change has been the latest Windows updates. I am running Win7 Home Premium on a laptop. The two mice I have tried have been a MS mouse and a Logitech one.

I've downloaded the most recent driver & searched for a solution online but haven't found anyone who has fixed this issue. There was a nasty virus on it that I managed to get rid of, but now programs won't run unless I first right click and click "Run as Administrator". Shortcuts also won't work (I assume for the same reason.) Does anyone know of a fix for this so we don't have to constantly click "Run as Administrator"? By the way, there is only one user on the computer and it is an administrator.

I created one for each of my multiple Gmail accounts etc and I changed their icons to something so I can identify which was which. The shortcut's took the icon and worked fine for a short period than I noticed every time I click on the icon after changing the default icon to my new one It would change the icon back to Gmails default one.
