IM Wont Sign In And Registration Gets Security Error

I recently installed Windows 7 pro from MSDN on my newly built computer and I'm having a few internet related issues.
Both issues persisted after I disabled the windows firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials to see if that was the problem.
My Pidgin and MSN messengers refuse to sign in. Pidgin gives me "unable to validate certificate" error and MSN gives me its generic can't sign in message.
When I tried to activate my product key for Windows 7 online, it gave me a "security error" I forgot the exact error string because I have since successfully activated by phone.
How do I fix this? I have a feeling this same issue will also prevent some much needed windows updates...

When connecting from my own or a 2nd computer from my own windows live home page which shows my data every time I click mail it shows up as a no can do due to log in error. My computer will go there automatically w/o a problem but not from the live mail home page. Whats up w/that?
I have shanged my password and that took, so I know that's not the problem.
I installed Win 7 from Vista, no problem and then installed Win Live Mail only. This was the 1st use of Live mail. I dropped Outlook. Do I need to install something else?

i installed windows 7 rc1 yesterday and now everytime i sign on i get this error
i've tried to download the .net 2.0 framework and when i try to run it it tells me that the .net framework is already part of my OS and that i can't install it.
is this a registry error or something? does anyone know how to fix this, it's pretty annoying.

I purchased a new laptop with Windows Home Premium 64-bit and purchase the upgrade to Win 7 Pro.
About 2 weeks later, the harddrive went bad, and I had to have the laptop replaced with a new one. I upgraded the new laptop to Win 7 Pro.
Now, my system info page says that I must register my key code by tomorrow or certain functionality will be lost. I attempted to enter the key code on the bottom of my laptop and the key code for my Win 7 Pro upgrade and neither works.
Does this mean I need to re-install my original Windows 7 and start over or is there some way to avoid this? I just got through reinstalling all of my software and running a Carbonite restore for all of my data files. I hope I don't need to do this a third time.

I have a new Dell Inspiron 15R. I keep getting the pop up to register the computer but when I try to fill out the form I get an error. If I decline to register I get an error. If I click "remind me later" I get an error. I called Dell to register it but the pop up is still there. How can I get it to go away.

My friend wanted a faster router for her new computer and she's using Ethernet now, but she is having hangups during the registration of both her new D-Link router, and her new Dazzle card that she is installing for direct TV purposes. She has Internet through her old router, Linksys, but she says it's too slow, so she got the new one. But in both cases, she hasn't been able to complete the registration process with either new item. It kicks her out after the first page, she says. She has windows 7 on a brand new, fast computer. My boyfriend reinstalled Windows 7 the other day to clear the crap from his system but unfortunately realised once he had done a quick format and reinstalled it that he had selected his back up drive and not the C drive. He then did it to the C drive but didn't uninstall it from the back up drive, and now it throws up a message saying the registration number has been used twice so is blocked but when he contacted Microsoft they said there is nothing they can do to unblock it. I don't believe buying a new version of Windows 7 is the only solution as it's a legal version bought from Amazon, has only been installed on his PC and surely as Adobe can deregister programs from their end it would be possible for Microsoft to do it. I know about the Adobe one as I have had to do it twice recently!

Has anyone else encountered this error before? I couldn't update my Definitions for awhile and Windows Update found the latest one (1.61.628.0) and then Home page said "Not connected". I also get the error while trying to Upgrade MSE as what the Microsoft Help page mentions.

I have another user setup with standard settings and want to set them up to be able to play Civ IV without me the admin having to enter the password everytime they want to play it.
It's in C:GamesCiv IV, so I've tried changing the permissions of users to modify and write enabled. However I get the 'error applying security' message with no prompts as to how to solve the probem!
The interesting thing is it applies the changes anyway, even though it tells me I'm not allowed - security flaw!

Unfortunately, yesterday i was facing blue screen on death type of error (BSOD) error. On one forum, I found that it may be due to the mcafee antivirus software. So, I uninstalled the software.

I recently upgraded my OS in order to solve registry issues retaining to the corrupted windows installer. When I try to enable the Microsoft SE, it would not work. I went into the control panel (Add/remove programs) and removed it. So when i try to reinstall Microsoft SE, I am getting weird error (0x8004ff82). I am not too familiar with the regedit, but I think the problem is a registry file.... I have already tried MicrosoftFixit, and it did not work.

As far as I know I have full administrative privileges and UAC is off. I am the sole user and this is the only account. I tried to install a new version of VMware Stand Alone Converter. I right clicked and ran as administrator. It asked about removing old version and I checked OK. It runs and pops up a box at end with this fault:

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. This is the first software I've ever had a problem with. Is this a Windows problem or a VMware problem? Does VMware Workstation need admin privileges even though it's a separate program?

I recently bought a notebook PC, and was quite annoyed to find that Intel has magically removed the ability to change the Centrino N 130 wireless adapter's MAC address.Before the nutters get in here with accusations of "illegal" activity, I feel obligated to point out that there is nothing "illegal" about changing the MAC address on my own property. Briefly, I want to pose my notebook as a hypothetical attacker, trying to bump one of my other wireless devices off the router by assuming its MAC address. I don't really know what would happen if I did this, because, like I said, Intel artificially crippled the Centrino N 130 through its Windows 7 drivers. Rather paternalistic of them.Another benefit of the proposed experiment: showing the futility of MAC filtering in keeping out the "bad guys." I have been convinced of this for some time, but been simultaneously unable to demonstrate it to my own satisfaction. There is no substitute for actually trying something, rather than just reading about it.
I am also a little annoyed at the Centrino N's (lack of) performance. I have yet to have it connect at greater than 72 Mbit/s, even while sitting less than 10 feet from the router with a clear line of sight.FWIW, my router is a NetGear WNR3500v2. N wireless is enabled. As far as I know, this router is capable of supporting a full 300 Mbit or so 802.11n wireless connection, as long as the wireless NIC on the other end is doing its part (which mine doesn't).With all that in mind, can someone suggest an N-capable wireless NIC that is not purposely crippled by its manufacturer? I would prefer an internal mini-PCIe card, but Intel seem to be the only ones making those. Even a G-capable or USB device would probably serve the purpose, if that's all that's available.

Windows crashes on startup -- a freeze in the "Starting Windows" screen. The Event Viewer shows this recurring error: Administrative Event Viewer Error - Session "Microsoft Security Essentials OOBE" stopped due to the following error:0xC000000DSearches give me this thread as the only one with something that might be a solution; however, the solution in that thread seems to be temporary, and the folder and file specified don't exist in my current install of Windows 7 and MSE.
