I have developed a problem where, when I use a SD-Card, Memory Stick or an external Hard Drive (USB connection) to my Computer running Windows 7, I am unable to add any files to either as I am told that the items are Right Protected. In the past I did not have this problem. I also have a similar problem when I try to run some other programs.

trouble shooting:
This is what i did..... I took a laptop hdd and placed it into my desktop. I booted my desktop with the laptop hdd. I then placed the WD HDD ( the one that i've been having trouble with) as a second hard drive. I noticed that windows recognized the WD HDD and could write to it. I also reformatted the WD HDD. I then tried to run the windows installation from my laptop hdd so i could install it on my WD HDD and once again it didn't recognize it. I thought maybe i could clone my laptop HDD to my WD HDD with Acronis "clone software" and it couldn't recognize the WD HDD as well. This is frustrating...... Why can i write to the WD HDD but cant install the OS.

Kensington said download new "Setup.exe" file when that gave same error, they said not our problem go away. also tried run as admin - same problem!
Lenovo said software is not under warranty it will cost a lot of money to troubleshoot - call microsoft.

Way To Remove Write Protection
Nov 15, 2010I am unable to move files onto external devices. Windows gives me a message to the effect "the drive is write-protected. Remove write protection or try another device" I've seen a lot of advice directed at fixing USBs but I think my computer is the problem because more than one device is affected.(both external hard drive and USB stick).
I just recently had my hard drive fail. I've had it replaced under warranty but it seems this may have been this trigger. The replacement hard drive is of a lower speed as they had run out of stock so I'll be replacing it yet again in a few days when the stock arrives.

May 12, 2012How do I write protect a DVD-R after burning files that I want to permanently back up?
I've burned jpg images to a DVD+R for permanent backup with windows 7 drag & drop. I close the DVD burn session which I have read "finalizes" it but when I load the DVD I can still burn or delete files on it. If the files have the same name they are overwritten. I want to write protect the DVD. When I used Windows XP I used Roxio to drag & drop files to DVD & the disc had to be finalized so it could be read on other computers. This write protected the disc & when it was reload on any computer properties showed there was no room on the disc & it could not be written to & files could not be deleted.
Cannot Write Media To Disk
Jul 24, 2011I can not write any media to disk. Well....that is a lie. I DID manage to make a backup of my cpu files using Dell's backup program.I did it just to see if my internal drive was operational. I can use the drive to view media. I just cannot add media to a disk. It is not the disk themselves as I have used them on many occasions. I have updated the drive. Uninstalled the drive and reinstalled it.Manually installed updates to the drive. I even connected an external drive and cannot write media using this device.

Jul 15, 2011I've done this file sharing many times and have always gotten it to work one way or another ... that is until today. Here is my situation:
- Windows 7 home, 64 bit with network discovery and file sharing turned on and the 40/56 bit encryption selected (since one of my networked computers has winXP).
- I'm trying to share my whole F drive on the network. The owner of this drive in the advanced security settings is listed as "Paul" (my account - which is an administrator).
- I go to F: properties and select the sharing tab. It says "F: Shared". Clicking on advanced, I see that the "Share this folder" box is checked and if I click on the "Permissions" button I see that is has just one Group called "Everyone" and it has all three "allow" checkmarks (Full Control, Change, Read).
- I go to the "Security" tab and it shows "Everyone" with Full control. To make sure I click on "Advanced", "Permissions tab", "Change Permissions", highlight "Everyone", check the box that says "Replace all child object permissions ..." then click on "Edit". Then I make sure every checkmark is on "Allow" and click "OK".But then when I go to another computer on the network, I find that I can read all the folders of the F drive, but I can't write to any of them. I guess I must have missed at least one small detail, but I can't think of what.One last hail mary try, I changed the "LimitBlankPasswordUse" registry key to zero, something I used to have to do, but I don't think is required any more.

Oct 14, 2012I'm trying to install a program in one of the work station in my small business network and it gave me the error message that said "Unable to create directory "Z:program namedata", please check write access"I need this program to be run in the work station, but the collected data from it need to be saved in the server, so that is why this installation program tries to create the directory to server, however, it can't for some reason.
