Sep 28, 2011My setup: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on ThinkPad T510. 1HD, two partitions (C and D).I just reinstalled my system and encrypted C; however, there is absolutely no option to encrypt D. I've tried accessing the drive from admin account and still nothing. When I open BitLocker management, it only lists partition C and not D.Here is some additional information that might or might not matter: I tried to restore my Windows 7 from an Acronis image and it was unsuccessful. Tried it twice and during booting POST showed two different W7s installed, which was incorrect. When I finally installed Windows 7 from scratch, the extra W7s were still appearing before startup and I had to use EasyBCD to remove them. Now when I am trying to backup partition C, Acronis says that my System Reserved Partition (SRP) is on partition D. My hunch is that Acronis messed up my drive D when I was trying to restore my C partition. Then when I did a fresh Windows 7 install, the SRP incorrectly ended up in D and since SRP cannot be encrypted, that means that my entire drive D can�t be encrypted either. I am dreading about going through formatting my 750GB HD and installing Windows 7 and encrypting it yet again. I read somewhere that you can use software like Acronis Disk Manager to move the SRP to drive C, but I am not sure how this will work because when I open the native winodws Disk Management, I don�t see SRP there.

Simply put, my boot manager is missing, but only when my windows install disc is not in the disc drive. But just did a clean install couple days ago I re-installed windows 7 ultimate 64-bit on my computer (using an upgrade disc if that makes a difference).I formatted the drive with what I guess is a quick format (the option the install disc gives you). I have tried doing a repair with the install disc but no problems are found every time I try.

Installation Without The Disc?
Oct 10, 2010I am still quite puzzled as to how are you supposed to install the Windows 7 OS without an actual CD? I've only done it previously with XP home edition and I had a CD. If you still do not understand what I mean, I'm confused on how will the OS, during installation, gather the information when there's no CD inside to read from?
My second question would be, which one of the versions (Home, Professional, Ultimate) is the best for GAMING? I have no need for security, but anything that would make my games, internet, etc run smoother would be of use.

Aug 9, 2009No issues with earlier builds, but on one portable and one server I am now getting issues with the RTM bits where the dvd disc stops being read by the dvd drive.
What is weird, is I start the load process from the dvd drive no problem.
But, after it goes a while, I get an error on both of these different machines that there is no valid cd/dvd driver and will go no further in the install process. (Works fine on a different portable I have). On one portable, I hook up a USB drive and load the OS from it.
When loaded, I look at device manager, and it says the dvd drive is installed,
and all the drivers look fine. But, if I put a CD or DVD into the drive, nothing.
I know everything is good, so what changed in the RTM bits and how do I fix?
Winrar, Can't Get The Exe Onto A Disc
Nov 11, 2012I've downloaded the ethernet etc, and graphics drivers and put them into .rar files.I also downloaded winrar and tried putting the .exe as a data file (all files on one disc) so i could install that, then the drivers, but the exe doesn't even appear on the disc so i cannot install anything. cannot put the downloaded .exe of winrar on disc to install on another machine, doesn't even show, and as such drivers are useless.
