View 2 RepliesI recently installed GTX670 SLI in my machine and run some benchmarks to test it is all working.
Afterwards, I did a clean format complete re-install with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 with updates. It appears now when I shut down my machine, windows turns off the display and seems to shut down but does NOT turn off the fans/LEDs on my computer.
I then re-installed a clean windows 7, installed my drivers ONLY (no windows updates) and it shuts down/turns the computer off fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor a few months now, areo has not been working on my family computer. It is just using the basic theme. I have tried the troubleshooter several times to no avail. I also tried updating the video card driver threw Windows Update and areo still won't work. It is running Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. Areo used to work, so its not an incompatible video card.

View 4 Replies View RelatedCan I upgrade from Windows ultimate 32bit ver 6.1 ( build 7600) to windows 7 ultimate 64bit edition and keep all of my installed programs and files ?[meaning not having them moved to a new folder called windows.old]
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought the full retail Win 7 Ultimate and trying to upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate to Win 7 Ultimate, both 32bit. I get to the Expanding Windows files to 21% and nothing. The program is still running and stuck at 21% but after waiting 3 hours I shut power off and Vista was reinstated. Why can't I get past 21% Expanding Windows files? I want to use the upgrade because I have a ton of programs on my Vista and don't want to spend days reinstalling them.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've tried to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to 7 Ultimate 32 bit numerous times now, all with the same result: a BSOD during the install process, which I get during (what I think is) the final step called "Transferring files, settings and programs."
The installation compatibility test warns me about my Nvidia drivers, which I've attempted to both remove and upgrade to the latest version, but that doesn't seem to make a difference (I still get the warning during the compatibility check, and I still get the blue screen). I'm not sure that's even the problem, either. I can't (easily) remove/replace the video card, since my mobo doesn't have onboard video, so I'd hopefully be able to avoid having to do that.
The error in the blue screen is a nebulous "REFERENCE_BY_POINTER" message. The technical information is "STOP: 0x00000018 (0x00000000, 0x86478030, 0x00000002, 0xFFFFFFFF)."
As a zip file, I've attached the setup log, error log, compatibility report, and what I think is the setup dump file, all of which I found in C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther (I believe that's the right place to look). The logs complain about BthMig problems, which I think has something to do with bluetooth, but I don't have any bluetooth peripherals. I've uninstalled things that I thought might have some bluetooth things in it, like MS Intellitype (maybe a stretch), but again, no difference.
System specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, on an Asus M2N SLI Deluxe, with 4 GB of ram, and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT. The hard drive I'm installing (upgrading) on has about 100 GB free.
I'm trying to upgrade a computer from Vista Ultimate (32 bit) to 7 Ultimate (32 bit) and I keep receiving this error message:
"This installation disc isn't compatible with your version of Windows. To upgrade, you need the correct installation disc. For more information, check your computer's system information. To install a new copy of Windows, restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc, and then select Custom (advanced)."
Now, I double-checked all the system requirements and the system is compatible with 7.
Today I began installing windows 7 ultimate on my laptop. However, I grabbed my ultimate N disk instead of my Ultimate disk. is there a way to upgrade to normal ultimate version. I have setup windows media center on every tv in my house and would like to have it on my laptop lol. I would realy rather not wipe and reinstall so i dont have to install all the drivers and anitvirus again...

View 4 Replies View RelatedCan a windows 7 computer turn on by its self connect to a wifi internet connection start itunes and go to a specific radio station play for a few hours and then turn off and be able to do it all again night after night?I have a friend and she just cant get how to use a computer no matter how I try and teach her. She has a wifi connection and would like to listen to a specific radio station at night while she falls asleep. At present she listens to a station via itunes when I come to visit and I get the station for her.I wonder can a computer that is off be made to boot or does it have to be in hibernation or stand by to come on and where in windows 7 do I make the settings as to what time of day to come alive or on from being off. And I assume the same place is where I will have to put in settings to power off or go into stand by or hibernation. So first off is this possible?
I am a Mac guy so not sure but I think I already know where and how to tell it if a particular wifi is present to connect with it also if it loses the connection will it automatically reacquire that network? If the above is possible can I get itunes or Internet explorer or firerfox or other internet browser to startup and go and connect to a radio stations live feed via wifi without having to manually click on any button on the page?Is what I want to do very complicated and could be prone to hang or freeze and she would have to be computer savvy to get it all going again which like I said above she is not. Could she just hold down the laptops power button shut down and then repress to restart and it would come back on and all would be able to pick up where it left off?Do I approach this as have itunes always runningconnected to the station could the computer be made to go to standby or hibernation at a specific time and itunes would continue to run just not make noise so when it comes out of stand by or hibernation it will be on and connected streaming the radio stations music?
After loading several AV programs/scanners due to trying to eliminate a virus, I wanted to confirm my Windows Firewall was turned on. When I went to Control Panel/Windows Firewall and clicked on "Turn Windows Firewall On or Off", all I saw in the "Customize settings for each type of network" window was the button "Use recommended settings" within a box called "Update your firewall settings". When I clicked on that button, nothing happened. Contrary to the picture shown in the Windows 7 Help pages, there was no option to actually turn the firewall on/off in this particular window. My intention is to simply verify the Windows Firewall is turned on after this virus happened. My questions are:1) Could an AV program/scanner program that I loaded have caused the Windows Firewall to be disabled (or replaced)? How do I know which AV programs have their own built-in firewall?2) Assuming my Windows Firewall should be turned on, how can I verify it really is turned on?
