I have just moved all my photos to my NAS and I want to set read-only on them as my whole family are accessing them. I though this would be simply the case of clicking the read-only attribute for the folder but I can still delete the files.What should I be doing?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem getting Media Center to display my Photos showing the individual photos contents of each folder.I am running Windows 7 HP 64 bit with all updates. My MEDIA (movies, music & photos) are on a separate hdd (M). Each of the media formats has it's own folder on the M drive, Movies, Music & Photos. I have no problem with the movies or the music. However, when I choose "pictures" in Windows Media Center only the individual photos folders are shown....no photos are shown in these folders. I see the individual folders but no contents. I have set up "Libraries" on the C: drive; Music, Video & Photos. When I click on photos in the "Libraries" all the photos folders are show each with it's own photos. I have "Shared" these libraries as well as each folder on the Media drive M. The format of the individual photos is jpg. I have run SFC/Scannow.

General info tab says:

A wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. It came up with a message saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". I clicked on continue, then a box popped up saying "Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action". Permission off who?! It's MY computer!
When I located my files the long way (Computer - Windows (C:) - Users ... etc.), all my documents were read-only and had a padlock on their icons, so I changed that. It won't let me view my pictures (says I don't have the correct permissions to access the file location). I can copy and paste the pictures so that it will let me view the copies, but it says things like "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" for everything I try to do. It gives me the option to continue, but it's annoying me because I have to keep giving permission for things that it should just let me do.
I have 2 programs on two seperate computers where UAC comes up and asks me if I wish to run the programs. These programs do not require administrator rights (Truecrypt and iSpy) and the check beside "Run program as administrator" is not checked in either the shortcut or the actual executable file.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi am trying to create a new site in dreamweaver. the site will have a coldfusion extension (.cfm). i am the only user on my notebook so i have complete administrator privileges. however, when i try to save the site in the c:inetpubwwwroot folder (because that's where coldfusion applications are saved) i always get an error.the error says: "you don't have permission to save to this location. contact the administrator to obtain permission" i thought i was the administrator? i am unable to change the settings in the security tab in the properties panel either. that is the extent of my troubleshooting capabilities.

After doing so, I cut/pasted my photos folder into my new user directory (or whatever, I'm not very techie..). I have thousands of photos, my BF is a photographer, and I can view most of them. However, in one particular folder 90% of them aren't viewable! Says I don't have permission... When I log back into parents windows, I can see the photos in my directory (as they are no longer located in theirs) but there are little gold padlocks on the ones I cannot see on my log-in. I've tried changing permissions, ownership, you name it.. I've looked for help on line and tried everything. The only thing that seems to work is if I right click on each individual photo and change things that way.

I also have a 2T secondary hard drive.The SSD is not big enough to contain all the stuff that will eventually be in "My documents",i.e. under "users" so I need to move the users directory to my secondary hard drive but havewindows behave as it were in its original location.I did some research and found the following technique which seemed plausible (and several people said it worked for them)
1. Install windows normally.
2. After install, boot from installation disk.
3. Get into the command prompt by clicking "repair".
4. Use robocopy to copy c:users to d:users. The command line should be: robocopy c:users d:users /mir /xj /copyall
5. Verify all files copied successfully.
6. Delete c:users. Command line should be: rmdir /s /q c:users
7. Delete c:documents and settings. Command line should be: rmdir "c:documents and settings"
8. Create junction to new users directory. Command line should be: mklink /j c:users d:users
9. Create junction for the old "documents and settings". Command line should be: mkdir /j "c:documents and settings" d:users
10. Restart computer.
Note:When in recovery mode the disk drives end up with different drive letters than what the normally have.Consequently my SSD drive which is "C" became "E" and my hard drive which is "D" became "C". Confusing, but I adjusted the above commands to reflect this.All seemed to go well until I rebooted. The computer booted up fine, but when I entered my password to log in windows complained that it could not find my profile. Since I could not log in at all I was forced to re-install windows. Supposedly, this is doable and I NEED to do it asap as my SSD will not hold all the stuff that will eventually be in "users".
I am cleaning a laptop out and i created a brand new user name. I deleted the other 2 users using the control passwords2.
So the machine starts and i select the user. Process usage is very high and it says 50, but actual user shows about 9. I click show processes from all users and i find the culprit as well as 50 processes. I deleted the users so there shouldnt be that option.
Why is there more processes if this is the only user, why does it even have the option?
What are the all users and default users folders? Do I need them or can I delete them if I am the only user.

Basically, what happened was; they attatched their mobile Phone via USB, then opened up the photos from the phones storage in windows explorer, then cut them, and got sidetracked into some other work, and whilst in a rush they shut down the laptop without pasting the photos anywhere, they cannot find the photos on the laptop or the phone's Internal storage, I will pay a visit soon as the pictures are important as they are of their 11 week old daughter, I will have a deeper search, but does anyone have any suggestions for me to try?

View 4 Replies View RelatedTLDR: I get the "A disk read error occurred" error but the system disk is readable and checks OK in the recovery USB. So, I have two hard drives--a terabyte drive with some data on it and a smaller drive with the Windows 7 installation on it--and a USB drive. I made the USB drive into a recovery USB using the instructions here Installing Windows 7 System Recovery into USB Flash Drive | Raymond.CC Blog with the addendum found in the comments. I made a system image of the smaller drive via the control panel and then put the image in the terabyte drive. I then replaced my smaller hard drive with a new drive of a comparable size.In order to restore the drive, I booted into the recovery USB, formatted the new hard drive with ntfs, made it active, and ran wbadmin start recovery -version:xxx -items:C: -itemtype:Volume -backupTarget:C: -recoveryTarget: where C was the terabyte drive and D is the new drive. I may have the drives mixed up here, but I assure you I had them correct when I actually ran the command
After a reset, I got some generic error so I went back into the bios, and set the new drive to be at the top of all boot lists, and then rebooted. It was at this time I got the above error. I feared that my drive was actually DOA, so I booted back into the recovery. I did a D:;dir and saw that all of my old files did indeed exist, so I figure it was a boot issue. I ran the boot repair utility in the recovery menu and it said there were no errors and I should restart. I didn't restart, and instead ran a chkdsk D: /f and found no errors. I did a bootsect /nt60 /all /mbr and restarted and still nothing changed. I even tried a "bcdedit /timeout 10" and I do not see the boot loader before getting this error. Not sure if that is expected or not but I'll throw that in here.
I have taken many photos recently with date stamp. However i forgot to set the date correctly due to which the date stamp shown is wrong. Is there any way of removing the date stamp, any software available? I am not interested in using the cloning tool in photoshop.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just purchased DVD +R DVDs to put photos on, that I want to be able to play on a Panasonic DVD Player. The literature indicates that it will play DVD +R that has been finalized. I tried using the Windows DVD Maker and adjusted the speed to medium. and I also tried using the media center. The DVDs are not recognized on the Player. I did select the finish button while burning but what else am i supposed to do to close the dvd? the dvd burner is a blu ray and while it is capable of lightscribe i bought single layer dvds.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2,600+ photos of my nephew in one folder and I am making a collage where those photos will serve as the background image that makes up one large image.The issue I am having is, when I automate the process (contact sheet) in Photoshop, it pulls the photos one at a time in the order that they are in the folder.This causes issues because similar images have similar background properties (skyline, lighting etc...) which cause the collage background to look like it has lines in it. Bottom line, how can you quickly randomize files in a folder...without doing it manually (2,600+ files).
