View 3 RepliesHow to make a batch file so that I can launch the ipconfig /all command right off my desktop. I know how to get to the command prompt and running, but I want to just put a shortcut and/or write a batch file with just a click. I can get the command prompt up. I open a new text file and type: C:Windowssystem32cmd.exe and then I save the text file to .bat and I click on it and my command prompt comes up. I can't seem to get ipconfig /all to come up at all.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been troubleshooting an error with both my WIRED Internet Connection and AUDIO since installing Windows 7, over a previously running XP SP3 OS on the same Comp.I have 3 desktops running through this working connection (Router) with no problems. If I connect directly to the Modem, no problem on the internet.Through the Router, my computer retains its connection one way, cmd. ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew.This lasts for a period but if ever awaking my comp, the yellow explanation mark returns and i repeat the command.Audio is also not working. I know its likely a driver error, NIC Card, maybe, but its an old comp we put together, what specs do you need to resolve this matter?

View 6 Replies View RelatedOk So I got myself into a unique bind here. I was trying to install some custom system files (for a theme) and I did it wrong and now I cant open explorer.exe . I dont want to goto a backup because this is a easy fix. (in my view). So I need to know how to run command prompt with administrative privleges from command prompt.
I am trying to do this command: copy explorer.exe C:Windows
So if there is also another command I can just tack onto that that gives me admin rights to do it. I would be happy.
I'm a Linux user just starting to get the hang of Windows 7. How can one perform these functions with the Windows cd command:
1) Go back to the previous directory (cd - in Bash)
2) Go to the user's home directory (cd ~ in Bash)
3) Bookmark a directory (not built into bash, but cdargs or DerB can be added)
When I type into the command prompt the following: DIR "C:UsersRoyMy Documents" I do not get a listing of the My Documents directories and files. Instead the message displayed is "File not found".

Recommended running chkdsk.Fired up a command prompt and typed chkdsk v: /f/r/x..Access Denied as you do not have sufficient privileges. You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode.SO, I right-clicked and ran the command prompt as an Administrator. EVEN THOUGH I'M ALREADY AN ADMINISTRATOR.Got exactly the same result. Went into the command properties and SET the thing to "Run as Administrator".UAC is turned OFF.There are days with Windows 7 where I feel like everything is 2 steps forward and 1 step back. How do I make it let me do a simple chkdsk - no I DON'T want to set something to have it run at boot, or go find some 3rd party program to do the same thing. View 7 Replies View RelatedI am seeing a utility that will let me enter the command that I use in XP and then tell me what the corresponding comand or sequence of comands are in Windows 7. What I am finding is I am spending many hours locating the correct set of sequences to do something which is very straightforward in XP and do the same thing in Windows 7. I end up going onto the web and have to search for the command and the information necessary to accomplish a task. An example of this is creating an ODBC connection. In XP it exists as an option in the Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Data SOurces ODBC. In Windows 7 now its buried in Windows System32/odbcad32. I am not seeing any real advantage of using Windows 7 other than running in 64bit mode. It seems that the order of where things/commands are located and what commands are called is many times changed as well.

That's exactly what it does on all of my PCs except one.Obviously something is set differently on this one PC but I don't know what.
