I was saving an Important doc in a NotePad as usual, but when I went back the next day to open, it Wouldn't!?
Specs: Win 7 Home Prem - Dell Insp 1545 - 64 bit OS - Pentium (R) Dual Core CPU - T4300 @ 2.10 GHz Processor. I have 5 Hrs of work saved in that file & I don't understand Why it saved as a MS-Dos app & why it Won't open.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new HP Desktop PC. I'm running Windows 7 Home 64-bit SP1. Yesterday I noticed that iTunes won't open when I double-click on the shortcut icon on my desktop. I restarted my computer, same issue. I restarted in Safe Mode, same issueI did notuninstall/reinstall because I also can't open my Spybot-SD. Same thing happens. The process is listed in Task Manager, but the programs just don't open. I have not trieduninstalling/reinstalling the programs because I tried doing a System Restore back to early February. The System Restore was successful but the problem persists. Also, Windows Media Player opens, but it opens weird, wherein it freezes on a white square for a few minutes before finally loading. Also, my DVD burning software, DVD Flick, opens but first it freezes on a yellow square.
It's hard to Google this problem because of all the programs involved, and I'm sure there are more programs that won't open that I'm just not aware of yet. I didn't do anything that I can think of that could've caused the problem (and if I had, the system restore would've fixed it). So I scanned my PC for viruses with Symantec and I also scanned for malware with Microsoft Security Essentials and both scans came up clean. Not being able to use iTunes presents a problem because I can't update my phone or make changes to my phone at all.
My girlfriend recently lent me her laptop (Windows 7 32bit) it was still using IE so when I go to install chrome the built in 'security program' (Windows 7 internet security 2011 or something like that) tells me that chrome is a threat and wont let me use it.. Now after finding out that Windows 7 internet security 2011 is a joke and just wants my money I run spybot search and destroy, it finds plenty of viruses and such like which are all removed.Now I have the strange problem...When I try to run any program or file the 'open this file with' window comes up. With some programs I can browse the program files and locate the program, select open with (I can't select 'always use the selected program') and away we go, but with others it simply doesn't open or will open the program in the background (unusable) and give me the 'open with' window again.. I have tried putting the Malwarebytes installer on USB but the laptop still gives me the 'open with' window when I try to install that
View 4 Replies View Relatedif i go to the start button to go to my computer the window will open on the first try , but say i try to go to my computer again it will just sit there and not open. the exployer window will open but not the contents inside.does not care how many times i try it will only open the window and show nothing inside , a bar will go across the top to show progress but still it will not open.if i restart the computer i can open up the my computer or just computer in W7.like right now i tried to open up the window to check my hard drive and im still waiting for it to open.this goes on on both of my computers running windows 7.all coms are updated to the fullest and im not overclocking or doing anything other normal stuff.So is there a bug or somthing that im missing , once again if i go to start , and hit computer the window will open on the first try , but if i do it to many times it will just open a window and just sit there.even further if i open it up and try to open a file it will just hang there and not open , there is no error warning or nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm having a problem with opening files I use to open with two programs. One is mkv, vob and divx files with homecinema. And snes roms with an emulator. Basically win 7 would let me select the program and it would show up on the list of programs to use. I would select always use and I'm done. But I moved the folders containing the files to a different folder and now my two programs I use will not show up in the open with list. I now have to go to the program itself and search for the files. Its a pain because I could click on the files and get right to them.

When he attempts to open an application (any application) it opens an "Open With" window with only IE 8 and Word Pad as the only recommended programs.He's figured a PITA work around by right clicking the application icon and selecting "Run as Administrator" and then it opens after clicking through the security window. My initial thought was that his account was somehow changed from an Administrator account to a standard account, but that proved incorrect.I'm thinking it's some virus or malware that's causing this, but I see no other apparent signs of infection (i.e. degradation in performance) and he is protected by a current Antivirus (Eset), so I'm also thinking there may be some corruption of his system files, but like I said, I'm a novice where Windows 7 is concerned.

I have tried F2 - repair automatically and it says it cannot - asks if i have plugged in a camera or music recently - which i have not and also i may have a disc error and to try chkdsk/R on the command prompt ...which i did but it says it is write protected. I have tries system restore but that also fails. I haven't tried the boot disk yet as i have not saved my files and this would be a last resort .. is there any other way of getting into windows with the problems i am encountering without a complete factory settings system restore?

Now, when safe mode is running, everything runs just fine!I've googled around a bit and people are saying it is a "File association" problem. I have used their fixes and downloaded the new reg exe fixes and attempted to do that. Never used to have this problem - used to click a PDF to open and it did.

On this new computer, when I click a link it shows the PDF form load, gives me a pop up box simply saying ADOBE and an OK button to press. When I press the button everything just goes away! View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter installing ZoneAlarm and restarting my laptop, everything I click on a message saying ''Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.'' pops up. Never had the problem before, its as if I am no longer the administrator anymore as if i now try to delete anything I have to ask my system admin for permission... When I try to click on anything to do with the admin controls nothing comes up. I assume it may have something to do with ZoneAlarm but I cannot unistall it from control panel and it won't let me even delete it straight from the folder. When I first restarted my laptop ZA didn't even pop up with permissions.

I have windows 7. I can not open any folders on my desk top. I can not get into "my computer", "my documents", "the recycle bin" or any other area. I can not access any of my network drives because I can't get into My computer. I rebooted and it did NOT help. I get no error message or any message of any type. I click on the icon and nothing happens.I can open a word document, PDF, etc that is on my desk top that is not in a folder. Also, I have a Mac desktop computer that is connected to the same network as the Dell. I can get into my documents from the Mac. I have all of My documents stored on an external server not on a drive in the Dell or Mac.
