View 2 RepliesI recently tried to attach some photos to an email I was sending, only to discover that when I went through the browse option there was apparently nothing in the folder (which there was when I checked the folder in question)Having dug around I discovered that every folder appears to have read only set in attributes.I tried to remove this but all to no avail. Having clicked on apply, then closed the file down, I have reopened it to find read only is still there.

I have a similar post but not for WIndows Xp but not Windows 7 and while I am told its similar for XP/7 I have not found the case..... Vista I am told is slightly different yet. But, I am looking for registry edit/tweak under a similar key such as in the HKCU or HKLM as listed (should be close):
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanc ed
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionPoliciesExplorer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionPoliciesExplorer
Whether I was off on the timing/correation I have tried the following Keys/Subkey names: EnableDragDrop, DisableDragDrop, DragDrop, DragAndDrop....... noe of these seem to have an effect.
I toyed with these but were not any of the issue (or before): HKCUSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet Settingsones...
I'm trying to add folders in the indexing options by using either registry or command lines. This is for an unattended silent install.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhile windows was uploading some updates yesterday, I cleaned my registry using Iolo's system mechanic tool and that's where the problems started. (I already read and understood your message: don't use those tools and stay out of your registry. A lesson I learned too late, unfortunately.)My computer rebooted and after a couple of minutes I noticed the message: " failure configuring windows features reverting changes ". I managed to bypass this loop by running in safe mode and recover my computer to a restore point in the past. This only worked partially: I get windows to run in normal mode but I get this message: "system failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. Restore point damaged or was deleted during restore". So it didn't restore but I can get into my windows now.So I don't get the 'reverting change loop' anymore, so I can access my computer but what's the mess? Well my computer is slow as hell.Like mentioned above, I already looked around on this forum and wrote down what I already tried. [code] My computer is terrible slow because of a registry defrag/optimization of a registry tool (in combination with windows update) --> I need to find a way to get back my old registry files but system recovery ain't working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just done a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64. I have set up four accounts and for each one I have moved the user folders to a separate hard drive by using the Right Click Properties > Location > Move. I have done this for the following folders:
- Desktop
- Downloads
- My Documents
- Favorites
- Links
- My Music
- My Pictures
- Videos
I have done it exactly the same way on each account (and more than once! I've been imaging the disk and have restored backwards a few times.)
The problem is, on three of the accounts, when I move the My Music, My Pictures, and Videos then they do move correctly but three rogue folders appear named Music, Pictures and Videos. And I can't delete then since they are system folders.
But the weird thing is that this does not happen on one of the accounts!
how to get rid of the extra folders as they're cluttering up the users home folder and causing confusion.
In Windows 7 how can I change "Folders View" for individual folders without changing them system wide. For example if I select "always show icons" all my folders are set this way, and that's fine. But there are a few folders I have containing jpeg images, and I want to view those as "thumbnails" without effecting the others which are set to always show icons.
This was very easy to do in Windows XP but I can't figure out how to do it in Windows 7.
I'm still not too familiar with Windows 7 that is installed on my laptand would like to know how do you go about changing the propertieswhen you put in a blank dvd or cd or a movie????There are certain programs coming up that I don't want towhen I insert blank media or movies. moranacus has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently went through the Malware forum to get rid of some nastiness on my machine...and there appears to be one small casualty left to fix. I cannot get into System Properties any of the "normal' ways...-When I right click on "Computer" I do see "Properties" I click on it and the explorer window flashes once (like something tried to happen)-When I right click on "Computer" in the start menu, the start menu disappears (like it does when you open something)-When I use the keyboard shortcut (Windows key + Pause/Break) nothing happens. The only way I CAN get to system properties is by using the run command: "sysdm.cpl"

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running a game at the moment, which is leaving two black bars on either side of the screen when trying to play it. Anyway, I know that to fix this I need to go into the Graphics Properties and change some of the scaling settings. However, I cannot find the Graphics Properties anywhere. Some people are saying that I need to right click on the desktop and select it, but it isn't there when I right click.Basically, could somebody inform me on how to access the Graphics Properties so I can change my scaling settings please?

As the tittle says,I want to remove the properties feature because the feature isn't something I want to install.
Perhaps is caused by rootkit, however my ESET doesn't detect anything.
Look at screen-shot below, the properties option that I highlighted is what I want to remove, but I dunno the way to remove properties option. location where the properties feature located then I want to remove it as soon as possible. I try other AV because I just want to remove the option manually.

View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen I copied over fonts to the windows fonts and told it to replace the current font it didn't do what I wanted. For example I copied over a font with the name HS.ttf, and when I now look at the corresponding font it is called HS_1.ttf. I have a certain program that looks in the WindowsFonts folder for a font called HS.ttf and it currently can't find that file. I thought no big deal I'll just rename HS_1.ttf to HS.ttf. That's where I have a problem, when I try to do that it gives me the error 'Cannot rename HS_1: A file with the name you specified already exists. Specify a different file name.' When I do a search for a file called HS.ttf it can't be found anywhere. How do I go about finding and removing this HS.ttf and renaming my HS_1.ttf file so that my program can correctly find the font file I want it to?

I don't think so, since I installed it a couple days ago after another virus had infected the system

View 11 Replies View RelatedToday I was using TuneUp Utilities and found a great pie chart that would look awesome in Windows 7. Basically I want to know where the images are stored (possible an MUI file) for the below resources:
That way, I could replace them with the ones from TuneUp Utilities (or make my own) and make it look like this:
Would love any help finding the resources.
I have problem, recently all new folder are created optimized for video content with big pictures and such. How can I fix that so they are created as normal folders, because this is driving me nuts having to change this for every new folder.
