I am working an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC laptop w/ Windows 7 pre-installed. It is having some lock up issues, somewhat resolved after removing Mcafee Av, but still tends to freeze up at times. The user had several registry cleaners on it and I think between those two it still has some registry issues.
The Recovery partition does not show an option for a non-destructive repair install, like in XP. It has Software Program Reinstallation, Hardware Driver Reinstallation, System Restore, and System Recovery. The System Recovery makes it very clear that it will format the hard drive and all files created by the user will be lost.
Is there any other option to reinstall the OS without losing all his personal files? I would back them up for him, but he has allot of movie files that would take up too much space.
Or.. would creating another partition for all his movie files to be stored on, and then doing a System Recovery on the main partion work?
I have a sony vaio j series all in one pc. Everything has been running fine, I had never had a problem with it.... UNTIL last night I got home, and my sister said that she accidentally unplugged the computer, and she says the computer automatically started a system restore that DELETED ALL OF MY FILES. When I turned it on, the screen began to see "PREPARING FOR FIRST TIME SETUP" and then prompted me to register the computer, just like the first day that I turned it on. I thought that in order to restore back to factory settings you had to have the cd's from sony?? I already looked at the system restore wizard and there is no restore points that I can reverse it to. What can I do?
Every time i clicked on the start menu, opened a webpage or clicked on a file it would freeze , unfreeze after 5 minutes and then.... ye freeze.So it kept freezing, and at times when i tried booting it, i would be faced with a useless black screen.i managed to find my recovery disk and started a " full destructive recovery " using the built in Repair Environment ( re-install basically ).So now that i'd re-installed it, here was me thinking everything would be hunky-dory. Ofcourse, it is not.Already , even after a few days it is showing signs of freezing up again. I'm scared to click too fast or open too many apps incase it bombs out on me. With 4GB RAM and a 2.1 GHZ Processor , freezing up should be the last thing to happen...I have tried virus scans etc, used ccleaner's registry fixer aswell but i can't seem to find the issue.
I have an Acer and a HP laptop. Right now, both of them have the original partitions settings: a system partition C:, a recovery partition, and a HP/Acer Tools partition. I want to shrink the system C: smaller and create a new partition just to store media files. Assuming that I have that done next week and 6 months from now, I want to use the recovery partition to restore to original settings. Will the restore process including wiping the partition I created and go back to just the C: and the one I created with the media files gets wiped?
I was recovering my laptop to it's factory settings, and during this, I closed the lid which caused it to hibernate mid recovery.When I now lift up the lid and click the power button, it does not switch on, as though it has been drained of power (it hasn't)I have tried putting it on the AC and holding power for 30 seconds.I've tried it without the battery, with and all the possible ways; all resulting in a dead end

I have a ASUS laptop which crashed after AVG installation. Did everythying (changed the AVG folder name etc). Now stops at CLASSPNP.SYS in safe mode. Also cant go to Repair ( get message "Windows is Loading Files") and nothing happens....
I dont mind formating and doing complete reset to Factory settings. (I have copied all data). However, I dont have CD for restoring Windows. F9 does not work.
Through midnight manager I can see the folder WindowsImageBackup on my D drive (80GB). Can I use this one (how?)
I accidentally deleted the recovery partition on my Hp compaq Presario CQ61 and have never burnt the recovery to a DVD.Checked Hp Site and the only option is to re-order another.The serial number of my Notebook is CNF9494GMB & Model is CQ-61420US

I had a Hp Dv6 6c43cl laptop with windows 7 home premium.I had burned it recovery disks,but due to some problem i had to replace my laptop.Now i have got dv6 t-B00.....specifications are differerent,and it came with window 7 home basic,,,,i want to use that home premium which was in my previous laptop.can i use that recovery disks to my new laptop??
i just got a new HP laptop. I already figured out how to create a recovery disk. Now how can i safely remove all the bloatware? do i just go to control panel and remove programs one by one or is there an easier way?
Last night I was using my samsung series 7 laptop but it was freezing up frequently so I after reading around some forums I decided I needed to format my HHD to solve my problems.After using the cd "system recovery media" I turned on my laptop to find only the trash bin in the desktop. I cant connect to wireless internet and I cant configure cable internet altough the icon still appears. Also my usb drives dont work either.
I have an ACER Asprie 57347, recovery disc doesn't work. Every thing I read says hold down ALT then keep hitting F10, all that does is make the laptop beep.
