I have two identical Acer Aspire One (722) netbooks each running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). The OS came pre-installed on the netbooks with no Windows 7 disks. There is a Windows 7 product key number on the underside of each computer. One of the netbooks experienced a HDD crash that I have been unable to recover from. I am not able to boot. I tried several different repair utilities and recovery disks. I am able to see all the files and folders when I view the drive using a SATA to USB adapter cable on another PC.
I am going to install a new SSD to replace the failed HDD.I created an image of the HDD from the other identical working netbook.(I failed to create an image or back-up of the HDD that failed - my bad.)I want to install this image onto the new SSD that will then go into the netbook that has the bad HDD.I assume at this point I need to do something with the activation licenses or product keys, because I don't want to do anything illegal.I also don't want to have to buy a new copy of Windows 7, since I feel I already had bought two working copies as part of the two netbook purchases.
So my question is, do I then have to reenter or change the product key from the newly installed (restored) image file from the working netbook and use the product key that was originally associated with the netbook that had the failed HDD? How do I do this? Will this plan work? I want to end up with two working netbooks each with their own legal and activated version of Windows 7 with the two product keys that I have, just as I had before I suffered the HDD failure.I realize I could have avoided all this if I had created an image and back-up of the HDD that actually failed.
I just turned on my laptop on and it wouldnt go past the "starting windows" logo. So I restarted my computer and it gave me an option to repair start up option and once the repair finished it said it has failed to solve the issue and it pop up a Windows System Recovery which is always good if I wanted to restore it to the factory state unfortunately I have about 30 GB more or less data on this laptop that is basically my life and wanted to retrieve the data.
It also gave me an option for command prompt so i went and run "chkdsk" it got to 49% and from there it kept on listing the entries on the disk and numbers that its got errors on, I didn't quiet finished the disk check and turned my laptop off. Reason being it was 4 AM in the morning. I have been using my laptop for over 2-3 years and by use I mean it has been online almost 80% of the time more or less.
Is it hard drive failure? If so is there a way I could retrieve any data from it? I know there are software that you can boot from CD or USB to salvage what ever data is left or readable, however the data is somewhat precious to me and dont want to do further damage. I would have gone to an professional and gave it to them but I can't afford it. I'm going to change the hard drive into a different laptop to check if its truely an hard drive problem related.
i'm trying to install at bios and easy tune 6, but for some reason it comes up saying open driver failure, or open driver handle failure. what do i do?
"Open device failure/ open driver handle failure" message when installing gigabyte utilities. The install fails. Does anyone know what might be causing this message?
I have Unallocated space at the very end of my hard drive, even after the 25gb Recovery Partition, this is due to copying my old hard drive onto this new one via Clonezilla, and it automatically keeping the unallocated space at the end. Can I either move the unallocated space around the Recovery Partition, or delete the Recovery Partition altogether? Sorry if I am being a little unclear.
I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows. However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore. It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.
is not empty - it is almost 80% full but when i click on it there are no files. Tried - to the extent of my knowledge - to see if the files are hidden but didn't reach anywhere. Tried a restore point but that didnt work either.
I am trying to delete the recovery drive and use all the c and recovery drive with windows 7. I do however want the Toshiba extras that come with it, well some of them. I also would like to use the windows experiance ratings.
I connected a 7 port hub up to my laptop and now my USB ports are messed up.The 2 ports on the left side have sensing but no power out. The port on the right side has power out and sensing but anything plugged into it after plug-and-play has down its number is installed incorrectly, (has an error doesn't work). The computer is a new HP G7-1365dx laptop windows 7 Home premium.
I have a problem, when I try to run a certain program it has an error, that prjChameleon.ocx or one of its dependencies are missing.. So I downloaded prjChameleon.ocx and put it in my System32 folder, but still no luck, says it will not work.. Further studying I found out that I needed to register it.. So I went to Start>Run> regsvr32 C:WindowsSystem32prjChameleon.ocx

making the computer recognise the system drive by using command prompt in recovery options windows 7 dvd. In the recovery options there is no operating system apparently but i know for a fact it is there as i had been on my windows 7 fine until i restarted the comp and then the problems started.
So how can i get windows to recognise where the system partition is.
I have the problem of failure to configure windows, i have seen a few posts on here about people solving this problem but i am a bit of a noob so was hoping i could get some 1 on 1 help.I was stuck in a loop for a while in that i would get to the failure to configure windows screen and it would either restart or would just stay on that screen for hours. i have now somehow got onto my laptop (don't ask me how! just luck i guess) but i was wondering if there was something i could do to stop it happening again. until that time i will be trying to leave my laptop turned on.
my PC is refusing to start up. It happened yesterday after the power had flickered, I turned off my computer because the battery it was hooked up to was yelling at me (due to the power flicker). On the startup, my PC just hangs after "Verifying DMI Pool Data", and then gives me the "DISKBOOT FAILURE, PLEASE INSERT DISC AND PRESS ENTER" to continue shenanigans.
I've cleaned out my computer and have tried unplugging my two external hard-drives, as well as going into the BIOS and making sure the boot order was correct. When I insert a Windows boot disc, it refuses to 'repair' my system because it says there's no specified OS to repair... I thought the problem was that it wasn't recognizing my actual hard-drive, but that doesn't seem to be the case, (I forgot how I got to it but,) it recognized that I had 183/500 GB of space left (as well as being able to view certain files.
I recently was able to get into DOS, where it's listing my main drive as "X:windows\system32". Could this be the problem? If so, how did it reassign it to "X: and why did it do that?!
I turned the laptop off by holding the power on button depressed for as long as it took to power down.I have done this many times before. This time the laptop will not start windows after power up. Win 7 offers 2 options, normal or startup repair. Both appear to run but stay on permanently and neither will start windows. Tried booting using the repair disk and laptop will not boot from CD. CD spins initially but without booting. Only thing I can see that is not normal is that after several seconds trying to boot the Disk led remains permanently on, at least to my eyes.I have removed the battery, powered up without the battery, tried different repair CD all to no avail.
I got the error code 0x80070005 when trying to install Windows 7, the error displayed.Windows cannot install required files. Network problems may be preventing Windows from accessing the file. Make sure the computer is connected to the network and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070005..I've got a 64 bit Vista running on an Asus G50V Laptop, and I'm trying to upgrade to the 64 bit Professional
have an acer aspire one d257 netbook running windows 7 home starter. i had set boot password, hdd password and supervisor password from bios and as soon as i pressed F10 (save & exit) it showed that windows needs some start up repair. now the start up repair is going on and on and thre computer restarts finally it asked for sending problem to microsoft to which i clicked no.now the boot screen shows up and after that it shows windows is loading files and then it shows attempting system repair but the it restarts again and the whole process is repeated (it has happened for more than 5-6 times) .Is there a way i can do system restore (i neither have a dvd drive nor i have a windows dvd-the os came pre installed)
The external harddrive that I have been doing back-ups to with the Win 7 back-up utility has failed and no longer functions. I want to back-up to a different drive but Win Back-up seems to be fixated on the old drive that no longer exists (I pulled the USB cord). The "Mange space" link is greyed out and when I click on "Change Settings" I get notified that the operation failed due to an internal error (0x800800005 Server Execution Failed) I've checked and the Windows Update service is running, so why did it "fail"?
Since August I cannot install Windows 7 updates.Everything seem to go OK until "restart Computer"The installation gets to 16% then hangs and "Reverting back" message appears.I now have 11 updates but don't know what to do.
Windows 7 boots as normal to "Starting Windows" with MS icon but then goes blank. F8 and "Starting Windows normally" does not work. F8 into Boot Menu with a Windows 7 recovery disk in the drive reads it briefly but does not recognise it. If I can get beyond this stage I have a system image on a connected hard drive.
I have just had a new 1Tb hdd fitted by a shop after my original failed but since he fitted it it keeps crashing ior corrupting Is it possible to reload the Win 7 Home premium to a clean start as I can'tr get it to load
Sorry but I'm sure this is now old hat. I've been networking PCs successfully since DOS 2 days but Windows 7 has me ****ed.
I have two PCs running XP and a BT router both work well but have just bought my wife an HP Netbook running Windows 7. I have set up the network 4 times but everytime I restart the Netbook all settings are lost, the shared printer and doc folders are not there and with the exception of a Windows Media folder on the XP desktop NOTHING is visible.
I suspect that it will take at least two hours to set it all up again but if anyone can give me a quick fix or tell me why it can't remember anything, or even the name of some network software that works, you'll be my friend for life!

I have an assertion failure for the first time on a new laptop, Win 7, using Wavelab. If I "ignore" the software seems to work ok - so can I ignore it or will there be unfortunate consequences down the line some time?
my name is saiju, my system consisting of 160gb storage,3gb ram.......... 4 year old..windows 7 operating system... But the problem is, if i start my computer, it showing 2 choices, one is launch startup repair another is start windows normally,, i can't repaire it.. So many time format it, but same problem continuing.
i have a system with a corsair force 3 60GB SSD with Windows 7 on it. Recently, when i tried booting the system, it would not boot into windows, instead it would get stuck on the "Loading Operating System .................................................................." page and then it would ask to load an operating system and press ENTER.
I have inserted the drive into another computer by USB to check the system files and it seems fine, i can read and write to and from the drive and i can see the system files on my other com.
I have also tried booting the Drive from other computers but same issue. I am not sure if its a driver issue or a corrupted windows file.
I have tried other methods, setting the drive to first boot, forcing the system to boot from the drive, setting to ACHI mode, inserting the drive into different SATA ports and controller, all to no avail.
I just bought new a 60gb SSD and Win 7 64 bit OEM (microsoft official) and when I try to boot the install disk with the SSD connected to the mobo I get a message at boot saying that it failed to boot from the CD and to insert the CD then try again. Needless to say when I reinsert the CD it still says this message.
When I connect my other new HD drive I bought (Western Gate 500GB) the CD boots up the Win 7 install and I can install the OS on that just fine, but that drive is intended to be my secondary and my SSD my primary for the OS.
I set it in my bios so that it boots from my DVD drive first and even disabled booting from the hard disk at all. My SSD shows up in the BIOS, but for whatever reason Win 7 install just WONT work when I have that SSD connected to the mobo.
The SSD is brand new, never been used before. I have no idea if I got a faulty SSD or I'm missing a step somewhere when installing a new OS onto a new SSD?
I am running Windows 7 32 Bit Home Premium, and at random times the PC will shut down and come up with the BSOD. After I try to boot up the computer I get a message saying 'Disk Boot Failure Insert system disk and press enter. Most of the time the only way I can get it to boot up is if I open up the case and disconnect the hard disk and dvd drive and reconnect them. On the initial screen after pressing the power button, it'll take a while before it detects IDE drives. If I don't disconnect/reconnect them, then at the initial screen it will sit at that screen and will not detect any disk/dvd drive.Does anybody know a proper solution without having to disconnect and reconnect the hard disk/dvd drive as I think that this may not be a good idea?
I was among the 1.4 million SDG&E customers that lost power on Sept 8, 2011. At around 10:30PM the power came back on and I attempted to boot up my Win 7 machine (which was on at the time of the outage). It gets through POST, displaying the list of auto detected devices, clears that screen to black and then displays a flashing white caret on the black background and gets stuck there.Any ideas on how to restore without re-installing Win 7 (and everything else)?
I have just gotten a job working on the internet and am trying to get updates done...Can I fix somehow all of the failed updates in one process? I really need to keep the window open to see who needs what on my work. I just need to know too, why all the failed updates, I am just estimating but am sure there are more than 7 of them. I want to get to work asap...
