Get An Application Icon To Stay On Taskbar (Quickmenu)?
May 8, 2012
How can I place an application icon on the quickmenu part of the taskbar and get it to stay there?
With Windows XP, I used to just drag an icon there and it would stay. I haven't been able to do that with Win 7.
I'm not sure if Quickmenu is the right term. I mean a portion of the taskbar that holds icons so one can conveniently launch one's most often used applications from there when the desktop icons are hidden by already open windows.
The taskbar always stays on no matter what is open. Its really bugging me. I can't findsetting to make it hide when a program is open. I don't want to use the autohide feature. I windows xp it just let the windows open to max and would hide under what ever program was open.
I have the setting "Hide Taskbar" selected, yet I find it often refuses to stay hidden. It seems like sometimes it will do this when an application/window wants to "tell me something", like that there's a new email (sometimes even when the "envelope" that indicates new mail isn't in sight), but sometimes it just seems to stay up for no reason, and I have to close all the windows one by one to get rid of it. Is there any way to get the Taskbar to Stay Hidden unless I'm mousing over it?
I was just wondering if there is anyway that I could set my windows 7 task bar to auto hide all the time, plus always stay on top. It already auto hides fine but sometimes I open a maximized window and it covers the small task bar thing at the bottom when it auto hides. So when I need open the task bar by hovering over it, I can't and have to minimize the window I had open, and that gets very annoying
So i just finished doing my mac theme for my Windows 7 x64 pc. So I put my rocketdock on the bottom of my screen and set my taskbar to minimize but now whenever i go down to my rocketdock taskbar the default one pops up with it! So how do i keep it from un minimizing?
I've noticed that if I choose to have an expanded taskbar as in the attached thumb, it doesn't stay that way through a reboot and I have to do it all over again despite locking it.
I changed the icon of my windows explorer and pinned it back to my toolbar, after that, it kept the original icon, and then a few hours later I looked and it was changed to the one I chose. I was super happy but after I rebooted my computer, it changed back :/I thought i remembered seeing a thread on how to change it but I couldnt find it, if there is one could someone direct me there please?and another thing
I have a printer icon in "Printers and Devices" that I can't get rid of and I believe that it is causing conflicts with my being able to use my printer correctly, i.e., I have downloaded drivers for my printer but when troubleshoot the correct printer icon, the results show that there is no printer driver installed for my printer. The offending icon is the "HP Universal Printing PCL 5" icon.(Please see the screenshot in the attachment.) I have tried the "Remove Device" option many times, but the icon reappears. Also, frequently, when I click on the IE icon, the page that comes up is blank and I have to go into Tools/Internet Options to get my home page back. I don't know if these problems are related, but I wanted to mention them both in case they are.
I don't want to pin anything. Without pinning, can windows remember where I dragged an application on my task bar through a setting or anything? I like to have my frequently used programs available near the start button. I'm always dragging them over there after I open them. But I don't like losing the task bar real estate to pinned icons.
I had some trouble with my Desktop and have experimented with the themes. I have now lost the ability to show thumbnails of windows of the apps I have opened with a mouse over on the Taskbar
One of my application icons (3DS Max 2012) has gone generic. This is true for the original application and its shortcut. Double clicking still opens the app; I just wonder why this is happening? (Let me stress that I'm talking about the App.exe itself, and not the files created by the program.)
I remember their being an option in the older Windows media player versions and now its adding on to my clutter when i often have 6-7 programs going at once
I'm running Win 7 and have had no problems, but all of a sudden all my desktop applications show with an Excel 2007 icon; same in the task bar. All programs try to open with Excel. I right click and choose properties, change icon, but to no avail. I just downloaded a shareware program and noticed that it also inherited the Excel link.
my desktop icons have the same adobe icon? How do I get the proper icon that came originally. how to fix.(Programs still work, but takes time to easily find what you are after on the desktop?)
we have a strange problem with System tray icon and windows seven. The application need to create a system tray icon and add a message. On XP and Vista the application work fine.SEVEN:If the application run by console and the owner of java process is user logged inthe system tray icon is show and message compare (work fine)if the owner of process is SYSTEM (get it s by task manager)the icon of system tray is not show: no exceptions are catched and the application run.
Does anyone know how to add an icon button in the taskbar that not only takes me to hotmail email, but displays current amount of emails as well for my windows 7 home premium OS desktop?
my Acer Aspire running Win 7 has stopped showing the audio icon on the Taskbar. Some websites have very annoying music or 'announcements' so I like to switch the sound off - now I can't without going via Control Panel.I have looked in Control panel and found System Icons - and the Sound label is shown as OFF. But the little arrow next to it to change the state is greyed out so I can't turn it back on.I tried the 'show all icons' under Notification Area Icons but the audio still doesn't show.
Something weird has happened to my taskbar. I have a few programs pinned there and everything was okay. Then today I unpinned Firefox from there because I wanted to change the icon I was using. After deciding I didn't like it I tried to go back to the one I was using but when I pinned it back to the task bar this problem occurred:As you can see when I click on the silver Firefox icon, it opens up a new firefox icon (default icon) in a separate place, taking up unnecessary space. I can't figure out how to make it go back to the way it was where everything stayed within the silver icon.
I just installed Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire One netbook, and there is no power icon in the taskbar. When I right click on the taskbar and choose properties, the power icon is turned off and the button that allows you to turn it on is greyed out. I've checked it with the netbook plugged in and on battery power and have the same issue
this thing shows up every now and then in my Taskbarshows up just for a second and then disappearsit looks like camera, a gear, and printerany ideas on what it might be?
I need a way to easily set my power options on my Desktop, i.e. the time it takes to go to sleep mode or screen saver ect. On my xp laptop I can left click on the battery in the taskbar and choose always on, presentation, ect. My desktop has Windows 7 x64, and I can't enable the power icon on the taskbar (Its grayed out in the "turn system icons on or off" ). Is there any way to enable it or a shortcut to the power plan selections in Windows 7 on a desktop?
