Jan 23, 2011I am trying to install windows as a clean install, in that I want to format the hard drive fully during installation, rather than trying to upgrade from inside the OS. I currently have windows vista installed on the machine.I insert the disc, restart the computer, it boots the disc, I get to the menu, choose install, and instead of going to upgrade or custom, it says it cant find some drivers.

The gateway 650i came with vista already installed.I reformatted the hard drive and did a clean install of windows 7. The only thing I can't get windows 7 to recognize is the dvd drive and microphone. I have not did any windows 7 updates yet.

Apr 8, 2011Same as with the graphics drivers, I am having problems with the audio driver too. It has AC 97 2.3 Compliant Audio. Complete specs here Gateway Support - MX7525 Notebook Specifications I tried with the drivers from Realtek (Vista/Windows 7 (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file)) Realtek The driver installed to completion, but it didn't work. Still showed a question mark in Device Manager and a red cross in the speaker icon in taskbar.. Followed salaadin19's method from here ZV6000 Audio x64 solved on the above driver. Couldn't figure out the appropriate inf file to edit (it has a zillion inf files), so uninstalled it. Followed his advice from here ZV6000 Audio x64 solved and downloaded the AC 97 driver from HP's website. Installed it as it is. It also installed to completion but showed the same question mark in device manager and a red cross in the speaker icon in taskbar. I then edited the inf according to his advice and now the question mark is gone in device manager and the red cross in speaker icon has disappeared in taskbar. Now comes the funny part. As in a successful driver installation, I can see all the audio devices on double clicking the speaker icon in taskbar. I can play any audio file. The equalizer sort of bars dance up & down in the speaker icon in taskbar as it should be when some audio is output, but I don't hear anything from the speakers. Tried maximizing the volume

Nov 4, 2012My computer has had sporatic blue screens at the end of windows 7 bootup. The diagnostic tools will not run. Gateway recovery management will run, but when I select the option for a restoration, it says my hard drive is not in the factory default (and aborts). I'd like to just restore the computer--any ideas on how to reset the hard drive factory default or to get around this error?

May 1, 2012I live in a student shared house which has a WiFi network set up. It has come to my attention that my network has recently gained a gateway between the router and the internet which is visible through the windows network map, myself and my housemates all connect to the internet through the router but it appears that this gateway is linked to one of my housemates, right-clicking the gateway brings a drop down menu with his computer name in the list.Since this gateway between the router and the internet connection has appeared there has been a noticeable performance loss to the network, being the only gamer in the house this has affected me the most in games having higher pings and dropouts all the time, although i understand that is also normal with using WiFi it has not been that much of a problem until now.I would like to ask how and why he is able to create gateway between the router and internet connection and how to stop it, i would like to also point out that the individual love his torrents and has possibly found a way around the bandwidth limiter in the router, he has currently denied any foul play but has tried other things in the past.
