I have a Alienware M15x laptop with system specs I have until now considered to be quite good. I recently had to reinstall Windows, a bad Torrent download corrupted my computer and I didn't have a Windows Recovery Disc. Many people tell me not to care about the Windows Experience Index, but here's the rating: It used to be 6.0, 6.6, 5.5, 5.9 and 5,9. Now it's 4.1, 6.4, 5.1, 5.5 and 5.9. The one that has lowered the most is the Processor component. Now, if my computer's performance hadn't been affected, I wouldn't have bothered. However, it did. I used to be capable of running GTA 4 at maximum settings at 1980x1080 without lag, Crysis 1 and 2 at medium-high settings at that same resolution, as well as many games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, Bioshock, Borderlands, F.E.A.R. 1 and 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 at varying quality settings. Now, even at the lowest settings I can't run any of these games without a very noticeable stutter, often making it impossible for me to play these games.
I have a Page File set for my two disk drives (I have only one Hard Drive, partitioned to separate my games from the rest of the system).I have Avast! as my antivirus, and I regularly scan my computer with Avast!, Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and Windows Defender, but I never find anything. I also use CCleaner often to clean up the registry. What made my laptop cease to be as powerful as it was before? Was it my reinstalling of Windows? It's really getting on my nerves, seeing that I could play Crysis 2 and it was silk-smooth, but now even games like The Ball, which isn't especially resource-consuming, often stutters and lags when something's happening on-screen.
I own an ASUS laptop and would like to be able to play my RTS games like Command & Conquer 3 etc. on Ultra high graphics and shadows without slowing down my game play. What kind of processors or graphics cards should i get?
Well a few days ago all of a sudden my computer started slowing down and eventually lag while playing a game then each day it progressivly got worse, i cant even game anymore without getting lagged out every 5-10 minutes. I've tryed scanning and only thing i got is a few cookies. I looked at my task manager and i noticed when my cpu crashed i started to lag. I dont know where to go anymore but i do not want to do system restore or reinstall my OS?
Im kind of new here so just ask for more details if i am lacking!I have a new Dell xps15 laptop with the i7-2720QM processor,It is said to run at 2,2ghz and speed step up to 3.3ghz.Using CPU-Z i can see it self stepping from 2.2ghz down to 700mhz (when not in use) but i NEVER see it step up to 3.3ghz. ANyone have any idea WHY this is? or how i can enable the processor to access the Higher level of processing, A google search just takes me to DELL.I have Tried Stress Testers on my CPU on all 4 cores (maxes at 2.2ghz) and One core alone using prime95 and still CPU-Z reads 2.2ghz.
I have MSI fx600 laptop with core i5 460m processor. Since i bought it, on full load CPU temperatures reach 100C! And battery life time is rubish,i would downgrade cpu clock speed, or voltage by a bit? Also, mayeb you know guys, is it possible to just disable one of the cores (my cpu is dual core with HT) when i want to? I mean, is it possible wihout, restarting windows to do that?Oh and by the way, feel free to give me some tips how to expand my laptop battery life time (because I get max of 3,2hours (its normal for this laptop, not for me )
I bought a laptop with core i3 processor which is 64 bit. In this i cant install some software such as turbo c, JAVA, microsoft visual studio and so on. How to get recover this problem?
I just purchased a new laptop and when I play games it gets pretty hot i was wondering whats the best way to keep it cool and if you know of any products that are up for purchase
My asus g60jx laptop recently went down with a fried motherboard [ =( ], I had originally planned on getting another asus as I really enjoyed the one I had. Im starting to wonder wether or not I should get a PC instead. I really just want something powerful enough to play modern games and maintain good fps etc... I dont need a "master of the universe" computer, something around 700-800 dollars. I have seen the refurbed asus's for around that price and it seems most come with the i7, 1.5-2gb graphics, 6-8gb ram etc. What I am really wondering is, how much more could I get for the same money out of a pc? Or how much would similar speccs cost for a pc? I love the mobility of a laptop, but if i can save a few hundred and get the same thing I would be pretty stoked.
I'm looking to buy a laptop and my budget is 1700 USD / 10.000 DKK I will primarely use it for gaming but as a work pc too? What parts should I order and is there perhaps some sick new CPUs or graphic cards on the market that could make it really fast.
i just got a free laptop from a friend of mine, it's an "Acer Extensa 5513WLMI".What i want to do with it is to upgrade it for gaming, so my question is would it be worth it to upgrade the laptop for some gaming, or just buy a new one xD ? and if its better to upgrade any ideas what would be good for it and at a low budget? [code]
I'm looking for at least an i5 processor or something similar, 300gb or more HDD, 6gb or more RAM, and a gfx card that can play World of Warcraft on high settings (not bothered about ultra). It also has to be good for DAW use and audio recording. I use and audio interface for this so I won't worry about the laptops soundcard. Decent cooling would be nice too.
I recently got a new 120gb SSD to replace my HDD. I have an i7 Lenovo y570, 8gb ram, with switchable graphics using a Nvidia GeForce 555m. Before upgrading, while playing Guild Wars 2 my performance was flawless on ultra graphics running at about 80 C and stable 50 FPS. Now I'm experiencing spiking FPS running at about mid 90's C after 5 mins on the lowest graphics settings! I updated all drivers and installed it correctly to the best of my knowledge.
i currently hav windows xp pro 32 bit and i have decided to go for windows 7 ... But should i go for 32 or 64 bit windows 7? i really wanna go for 64 bit since it supports more RAM but the problem is i am running 32 bit processor.
I was going through my Device Manager and I click on Processors. It shows that I have four of the same driver, Intel Core i3 CPU M370 @ 2.40GHz. All of these are also listed as being in the same location. Is this normal? Could this may be what's been causing my recent freezing problems?
Tom’s Hardware readers know all about overclocking, of course. In fact, many processor and graphics card reviews would be deemed incomplete without coverage of overclocking potential. Indeed, articles such as the System Builder Marathon series have a long history of specifically valuing performance achieved through overclocking rather than just through stock performance.
If you already consider yourself an enthusiast, pardon a bit of background here--we'll get into the nitty-gritty technical stuff in just a second.
What exactly is overclocking? In a nutshell, the term is used to describe running a component at a higher speed than its specification in an attempt to increase performance. Various computer components can be overclocked, including the processor, memory, and graphics card. And the degree of overclocking can include anything from simply procuring small gains from an inexpensive component all the way to seeking a level of performance way beyond what could even be purchased at that point in time.
i am using an hp machine with AMD E-300 APU with Random(tm) HD Graphics 1.30hz.i just installed Youcam on the machine but anytime i run it,an error message saying VGA hardware or driver not found.
I know that the NEW series of the I7 came out and labeled 2600 but then what are the different "levels" of the 2600 I7 Processor? trying to buy the BEST desktop for under $1000 with an I7 and thinking that Costco might offer me the most???
After my Z68 Extreme 4 Motherboard died and I had to take out the processor to RMA it, I started considering upgrading. My Core i5 2500k is on ebay and I was going to buy a Core i7 2600k. However, now I am looking towards the Ivy Bridge Processors coming out in the New Year. Apparently they will use the same socket (1155), but the motherboard will need a Bios update. If I don't have a processor until I get the new one, how will I be able to upgrade the chipset so that the new processor will work with the motherboard?
let me begin by saying that I am completely new to this forum as well as I am a new user of Windows 7. My laptop was running a Vista OS but it was acting up horribly, so I decided to simply install Windows 7 and it's working pleaI am one for typing and creating a mass amount of text documents and such on which was Microsoft Works that came installed on my Vista. I no longer have any Microsoft Works, or Microsoft Office for that matter, so I can't type besides on Notepad and I would rather not. I tried to install Open Office but it wouldn't install for whatever reason and I am stuck again.
As you increase the number of processors the performance improvement diminishes compared with the expected result -- for instance a system with 8 processors won't perform 8 times faster than a system with one processor due to the ovehead of managing the extra complexity of the interaction of all the processors. (Note the system will still be FAST of course !!).
Now wouldn't it be better to design say 128 and 256 bit architectures in the OS so you could still run many tasks concurrently but without the overhead of the multi processor environment - or at least have far less processors in the MP environment.
it was rumoured a while back that Windows 8 would have some 128 bit possibility -- I don't think there are any commercially available chips yet but thats only a matter of time.
- ASUS M4N68T-M LE V2 MoBo - Processor is AMD phenom II X4 965 Black Edition. - One Stick of 2Gb memory DDR 3 - ATI Radeon 6870 Sapphire.
If I restart my system (and this happens like out of 100 restarts 97 times) the system would be on the black post screen and say that the CPU is not compatible with my mobo. Then in order to resolve this I have to got to BIOs and turn on all the cpu cores and the unleashing mode under CPU and restart. Then it would reflect that all the **4 cores are active** and then it would work fine. But why does this happen after every restart. I thought it was CMOS battery but the date and time and other BIOS settings are fine.
Wondering what processor is better equipped to stream and play HD video to an HDMI port... AMD E350 or Intel Atom? Im looking to purchase a mini pc to attached to my TV to play HD video with VLC and stream from the net. Currently I'm looking at Foxcon, Zotac and Asus Eee pc's.
I have a working 2008R2 SP1 running on an older Intel dual core proc and an Intel MB w/onboard video & SATA controller. I want to upgrade and will be changing to an AMD 6 core & ASUS Mb, also w/onboard SATA & video. Any techniques that would allow me to take my SATA boot drive and move it to the new Proc & MB and get it to boot & run? I know I am changing just about every important component there is, but by chance is there any method out there that would allow me to avoid re-installation?
My processor doesn't seem to have Intel VT support. I checked it by going to BIOS and I didn't see Virtulisation option there. It confirms that my processor doesn't support Intel VT right?
another question - what will I lose if I don't have VT in my laptop? My ultimate aim is to run Win Server 2008 R2 x64 in my laptop along with existing Win 7 Home Premium x64. How can I do that? Can somebody please help me in this regard?
