View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter running Windows 7 for 3 days with a single reboot my ram usage has hit a highnote of ~3.15GB(as shown in the attachment below) so my question is this, is there anyway to free up the allocated ram that isn't being used anymore? I know you can do this on an iMac but I don't know if this is possible on a PC.
Why would Windows 7 eat up ~3.16GB of ram when I do not have any programs open? Is this because of the SuperFetch service?
I want to know if there is a way to free up RAM. I have 1 GB of slow RAM and it is at 60% full when idle. No programs running either. When I click on a few programs like OpenOffice and Chrome, it shoots up to about 80% full. Are there any non-essential processes that I can just kill in order to free this up (other than the programs I'm running)?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI originally had the free space as a D: Drive but decided to reallocate the space used back onto C:. I have gotten this far but am unsure how to continue because the extend drive option for C: is grayed out. I believe this is because the space which used to be D: is still shown as an extended partition. I have a Samsung RC512 with an Intel Core i7 Quad core processor and Windows 7 Home Premium.

View 9 Replies View RelatedJust want to know how the programs that free up ram work. What exactly do they free up? Is there any of these that are good with windows 7?? Does the program actually use more ram than ram it can free up???
I'm happy with my 1.5gb of ram right now and don't want to buy more but if these programs can really free up ram then I guess why not give it a go?? Yes I also use readyboost.
Are there any good free firewall programs? I don't want to just go googling such a query as I'll most likely get trojan horse malware.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHere is another issue that I've noticed with W7 in case anybody wants to know. I've been using AVG Free with Vista for quite sometime without an issue and up to a few days ago, it was going fine with W7. I hardly ever do a full scan of my laptop (a fairly new Toshiba), but a schedules scan was initiated and I let it run through. So, after about 50 minutes of scanning and presumably towards the end of the scan, I got a BSOD. I forget the actual error message, as I should have taken note of it. It's the latest version of AVG, but who knows if it truly compatible with W7 yet, so that could have been the issue. I know it isn't a conflict with another virus scanner, registry cleaner, or any other utility of the sort.
I have yet to let it run through again, but I'll get to it soon to see if it happens again.
Has anyone else encountered this issue?
I purchased a Toshiba Satellite L555D-7930 from Office Depot on BF this year. I told the salesperson that I needed 64 bit OS for newest AutoCAD app. He and the sticker on the unit confirmed that this unit had Windows 7 - 64bit. I pick it up a couple days later (had them install Office) and return home to begin installation of AutoCAD. I find out that the OS system is actually 32 bit after checking the system properties, and see that it is 64 bit compatible.
I call Office Depot and run thru everything, they tell me to call Toshiba to expedite things. I instead have them call on my behalf and the result is a case number from Toshiba with the ultimate answer (after a week of me dealing with both parties) of "NO" from Toshiba and "we will refund your money" from Office Depot. To their credit the people at Office Depot are nice and tried their best, but this whole thing seems like lack of understanding or abilities to me.
Can someone please explain whether Microsoft can get my system switched to 64bit (conversion/upgrade) or if there is a preloaded 64 bit OS hidden somewhere in a partition.
Have been combing blogs, but due to newness of Windows 7 info./posts seems contradictory at times.
Open to any input.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently run Windows 7 32-bit with boot camp on a 15 inch macbook pro, but I realized that it didn't fully utilize the hardware, so I decided I wanted to switch to 64-bit. I understand that retail versions come with two disks that allow for one to choose between 64-bit and 32-bit, but I purchased an OEM version through my university, for Windows 7 Home Premium. My question is if I can install the 64-bit version for free, and if so, how I can do that.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft stopped making new versions of Microsoft Money, their personal money management software package and now they've made it available for everybody for free well, sorta. The new Sunset versions were created so that existing customers could continue to install MS Money without requiring activation, but that also means anybody can download and install it.From their page: The Microsoft Money Plus Sunset versions are replacements for expired versions of Microsoft Money Essentials, Deluxe, Premium, and Home and Business. They allow existing customers to use Money Plus to continue accessing their data. Changes to the new versions include file conversions from older versions of Money, no required activation, no online services and no assisted support.

I got so involved downloading Captain Zero's HD WallPapers & browsing the threads today, that I had forgot it was running in the other room. When I went over to it, the screen says need to be activated. Wait a minute, this was RC 7229 x86. That should still be good until 2010 ? So I got out the trusty RC Key code, & typed it in. Clicked on activate. A few minutes go by, then not a valid key! What
So then I went to Start & typed in Winver 7600
Did Microsoft just update this RC Build 7229 ??
Not to be outdone by Microsoft, I just got out my legit list of TechNet keys & typed one in. Click on activate. Whoah this sure was slow, about 5 minutes

However, I HATE upgrading. I would much rather do a fresh install of Windows 7.
Is upgrading still bad enough that I should purchase the full DVD? Or should I stick with my free upgrade and just try and suffer through it?
Follow this thread from the W8 Forum,Works fine for me (and some others). I'm using W8 X-64 and the 64 bit version of VLC (2.0.5). Windows 8 blu ray player FREE,Same should work on Windows 7 -- can't see any reason why not (although I haven't actually tested it yet on Windows 7). If it doesn't work - I'm only trying to provide some info here for you -- VLC usually works for anything I've ever thrown at it.
